Sea Witch was a goddess that the Underworld Minions, including a band of murlocs, worshipped on the Darkspear islands in the Maelstrom prior to Thrall's destruction of their cavern of worship. She was a powerful naga spellcaster who had used magic to gain the murloc followers.Template:Cite Sea Witch demanded regular sacrifices from her murloc worshippers, which led them to capture visitors to their island chain. Thrall, his soldiers, the Darkspears, and Kul Tiras Marines were captured by her followers to be sacrificed. The Horde and Darkspears managed to escape due to Thrall's efforts though they lost Sen'jin. The Kul Tiras soldiers weren't so lucky. Afterwards, Thrall managed to hold back her followers and escape on the boats. She taunted Thrall saying he would be consumed by the wrath of the tides, yet he replied that she should return to the depths in which she came from. Afterwards, the volcano on the island began to erupt — which started the sinking of the island. Thrall's forces, joined with the Darkspears, quickly repairing their ships as they held the line against attacks. Despite everything, he successfully escaped but the Sea Witch said that the "Dark Tide" would soon get him.

After significant speculation, it has been confirmed that she was indeed a naga as the title implies. However, it isn't clear if she was actually a banshee or if her nature has been retconned. A possible explanation is that she was a undead Naga Banshee.

The character appeared in the demo of Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos, an extension of the tutorial Exodus of the Horde campaign. The missions featuring her were omitted from the initial release but were included with Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne.

In the Cataclysm site, it is mentioned that there is a Sea Witch on Echo Isles.[1] This is the same Sea Witch that appeared in Warcraft III, come back to claim her revenge.[1]

Note

Interestingly, in the results after the level is completed, the Underground Minions team has an icon of a night elf. Later, they have an icon of a human soldier.
