The Deadmines are expansive, winding tunnels dug out under Westfall and part of northwestern Stranglethorn Vale. It is the lowest-level Alliance instance, and is populated by members of the Defias Brotherhood. Its entrance can be accessed in the town of Moonbrook in southwestern Westfall, while its exit is located in the western part of the Dagger Hills near the ocean. The Deadmines once were the center of the Defias operation, led by the ambitious Edwin VanCleef, who was constructing a juggernaut at the bottom of the mines with the aid of the goblins. His plans have been stopped by the Alliance militia and Edwin himself was killed and beheaded. It wasn't the end of the Brotherhood, however as his daughter, Vanessa witnessed his death and several years after began to slowly rebuild the organization, waiting for a proper moment to strike back against the Kingdom of Stormwind.

Please note the only requirement to become an Armorsmith is to complete The Art of the Armorsmith (for which one can simply purchase the required items). The rest of this article describes the Mithril Order quest chain, which is the only way to learn how to craft those required items. While it makes sense to do both, you can do either without the other.

Prior to the First War, the Deadmines were the greatest gold-production center in human lands. However, they were abandoned during the First War. During that time, Lord Lothar ventured into the perilous Deadmines on a quest to obtain the Tome of Divinity but was captured by a band of ogres and held captive for 20 months. He was ultimately rescued and successful in his mission. It was also to the dungeons below the Deadmines to which Blackhand's daughter Griselda fled with the ogre Turok. Both were slain by an orcish raid. At that time, many slimes inhabited the dungeons but have not been encountered lately.

* Also known as VC (named for its final boss, VanCleef) to avoid confusion with another instance (Dire Maul) that shares the more obvious initials. Since the release of Heroic Deadmines and loss of Shen'dralar reputations, however, the abbreviation DM almost exclusively refers to Deadmines.

−
* If you travel to a small cove north of Yojamba Isle (in northwestern Northern Stranglethorn), you can see a large water gate which leads to the docks inside Deadmines. However, you cannot enter or leave through this. Interestingly, inside the Deadmines this gate exists to the North, but outside the gates exit to the south.

Revision as of 22:45, 3 December 2011

An Armorsmith is a blacksmith who specializes in the creation of rare and fine armor. Armorsmithing is one of two primary specializations of the BS (blacksmithing) profession. Please note that, like Weaponsmithing, Armorsmithing no longer creates any BoE gear: everything that requires Armorsmithing to create is BoP. In addition, most of the gear is soon replaced with better gear.

Becoming an Armorsmith

Please note the only requirement to become an Armorsmith is to complete The Art of the Armorsmith (for which one can simply purchase the required items). The rest of this article describes the Mithril Order quest chain, which is the only way to learn how to craft those required items. While it makes sense to do both, you can do either without the other.

In Capital City

 1. At level 40 and BS skill above 199, tell AllianceMyolor Sunderfury in Ironforge or HordeKrathok Moltenfist in Orgrimmar you want to be an Armorsmith.
 2. Then seek out the nearby faction armorsmith trainer:
 3. The quest requires 4 Ornate Mithril Helms, 2 Inv boots 01 [Ornate Mithril Boots], and 1 Inv chest plate10 [Ornate Mithril Breastplate]. The training to create these items is the quest rewards from the Mithril Order quest chain:
 4. The next phase requires the following, so you may want to hit your local AH before heading to Booty Bay:

To STV

 1. Outside the Booty Bay smithy, McGavan will give you Quest:The Mithril Order and direct you to see Galvan the Ancient[50.6, 20.5]VZ-Stranglethorn ValeBlip out in Stranglethorn Vale. He has a small camp north of the Mosh'Ogg Ogre mound.
 2. Galvan will offer you three quests:
 3. After you complete any one of those quests, Galvan will give you Quest:Galvan's Finest Pupil (where you journey to Gadgetzan to see Trenton Lighthammer), but don't leave yet; you will need all three quest rewards in Gadgetzan.
 4. After you complete all three of those quests, Galvan will offer you Quest:Expert Blacksmith! (which is not required for the rest of the chain). Watch Galvan pound away at metal and see a true master at work. When he is done, he will give you the Inv misc armorkit 08 [Signet of Expertise], which summons the Inv hammer 24 [Hammer of Expertise].
 5. If your BS is below 235, craft the items you will need in Gadgetzan to help you level. The closest trainer is Brikk Keencraft, at the smithy in Booty Bay. Make sure you learn through Heavy Mithril Boots before going to Gadgetzan, as there is no BS trainer there.
BS level Items
Most efficient crafting order
220 Ornate Mithril Pants, Gloves
225 Ornate Mithril Shoulder
230 Heavy Mithril Breastplate, Coif
235 Heavy Mithril Boots
 • Very Important Note: Trent will accept soulbound gear, so you can equip and use any of these items until you are ready to turn them in.

To Gadgetzan

 1. Trent will give you three quests as well. The gear you learn to craft here are the objectives for the quest to become a Master Armorsmith. Note that Trent trains you directly rather than giving you plans.
 2. When you complete Trenton's three quests, he will give you one final quest, Quest:Did You Lose This?, for which he crafts and gives you a Inv jewelry talisman 02 [Glimmering Mithril Insignia].

Back in Capital City

 1. You can now make all the gear needed to become an Armorsmith, so return to the city and start making the 4 Ornate Mithril Helms, 2 Ornate Mithril Boots, and 1 Ornate Mithril Breastplate.
 2. Complete the original quest by handing in your products to either AllianceGrumnus Steelshaper or HordeOkothos Ironrager and you will become an Armorsmith!
