Help with sortable table

I want to create a sortable table of the data at User:Brunpal/Sandbox/1. I would like it be like BC_cloth_DPS_equipment/Feet. I'm having problems with the formating especially since there are multiple items for each quest and those quest items may require a note. Media:Quest_data.ods‎ is the source file. Big thanks to User:Gourra for sorting out the table coding! Now I'm looking for page name suggestions to put that info under. Some quests require craftable items or non-soulbound items so I made a list of all the quests you can do by shopping on the AH. Basically it is a table of all quests that you can trade gold for xp. Awesome, though pity I won't be able to see it in the UK. I guess some general questions would be - would be expect to see any changes to how Blizzard works? As a result are we likely to see any changes to payment structures for the games (e.g. lower monthly subscription fee). What specific benefits does he see for Blizzard's fanbase? A whole bunch of Oceanic player would love to know when Blizz will start discussing reimbursements for 6 weeks of nightly outages from the release of the WoW 2.4.0 game client. Blizz staff are still stating that the solution is a work in progress. Whilst stability is greatly improved now, compared to those 6 weeks, we've yet to hear anything - we keep getting a 'we'll talk when we're happy it's fixed'. There's a 190+ page post in Blizz's WoW Customer Support forum, that actually breaks the forum software, discussing this. At the current rate, it'd appear WotLK will be out before any discussion of even partial re-imbursements will happen. Is a partial reimbursement at all possible, with final resolution when their tech dept. is happy? With the considerable investment that Activision is making into Blizzard, will this be used to encourage R&D to stay ahead of the market? Also, will this mean an expansion in staff and perhaps the creation of a fourth Intellectual Property at Blizzard? Transparency categorization

I am wondering how to categorize images with a transparent background (and good-to-OK attempts at a transparent background to a lesser extent) made in the WoW model viewer. Category:WoW Model Viewer PNG images seems correct per the transparency guidelines, but not all images in that category are transparent, just in the proper format to be if they were (see Image:CorruptedAshbringerMV.PNG). Jim the Inventor made Category:Adapted game screenshots for them, which seems a better idea. Well, the category name and descriptive sentance still needs work, but a separate category or a rehash somewhere seems needed.--SWM2448 21:12, 10 July 2008 (UTC)

While the Category:WoW Model Viewer PNG images doesn't require the image to be transparent, only guidelines are that it was taken from the WMV and is a PNG file, the Category:Adapted game screenshots says to me that they were taken in WoW then edited to be transparent... Thats what the category sounds like to me, though that doesn't seem to be the case, the adapted game screenshots category looks like it's being used as a combination of Category:WoW Model Viewer PNG images and Category:WoW Model Viewer JPG images. Perhaps a new category a Category:Transparent images for images with just a transparent background, and the ones with gray backgrounds can go into the WoW model viewer categories. The transparent category won't matter if they are from the WMV or in-game as you'll only see the object/npc/mob anyway. Only difference, really, would be the way it's categorized... Then I guess you can use either one... cause I don't know. All I know is that Ose created the separate categories to keep PNG, JPG, and GIF files apart. Well, I emptied out Category:Adapted game screenshots, filed the images based on type, and then put cleanup tags on the non-transparent ones. I feel Peregrine is too inactive to slap, and he may have been slapped already. I still feel a true consensus was not reached here, but it is a bit better.--SWM2448 21:53, 24 July 2008 (UTC)

The guidelines for WMV screenshots are set out here. I think it's too much work to categorize them based on their transparency - you can tell from the categories whether they are up to par. PNG images which are not transparent should be, and JPG images should have the WoWWiki bg, so it's something for a cleanup crew to tag really, not base categories upon. Death Knight Class Color

Death knights need an official color! Class colors seem to be (appropriately) buried deep within some basic style sheet on the site somewhere that simple users like me probably don't have access to. The only reference I could find to where this might be was here: [1]. So I'll leave it to the professionals to update things appropriately.

Two key pages I know of that need to display the class colors specifically are the following: Class colors & Class#Class_colors. And AFAIK, these are the Death knight color values: RBG(dec) = 0.77, 0.12, 0.23; RGB(255) = 196, 30, 59; and Hex = #C41E3A.

Although the only "official" source for this info would be the FrameXML/Fonts.xml file in the alpha client which you may or may not still consider under NDA, I still think this info is basic enough that it's high time it get added to this site to make sure the groundwork is there for users to utilize it. There are numerous public sites that are displaying the Death knight's color now, anyway, including wowhead & mmo-champion.

Default wiki skin

How can I say this delicately? ... ... nope, nothing comes to mind. How about, I simply give you the directions to see what I see: Firefox 3 (no saved login data). Javascript disabled. Images disabled generally, auto-allow for images.wikia.com and images1.wikia.nocookie.com. Not signed in.

Horrifying is too weak a term for it. The main page was so badly organized, I had to try going to some other page (any other page) to find text for the login button. (Logging in brought forth my chosen skin, and rationality returns.) Text on backgrounds that made it difficult to find/read.

Equals sign in template parameters (questlong)

Is there any way of providing an equals sign as part of a string parameter in a template? Specifically, in questlong.

The quest "Potential for Brain Damage = High", for example, requires the '=' to be removed in order to work in the template. I can't find any way to escape it. Help:Template#Equal_signs_in_parameter_values didn't seem to help much. -- w.woods (talk) 06:35, 16 July 2008 (UTC)

Wrath of the Lich King beta

It has begun...

Basically, it's now a free for all on beta content - let's try and limit the amount of obviously unfinished alpha stuff, and concentrate on what's been completed. Courtesy of kd3, we now have thousands of extra pages and images. You can see the images on Special:Log/upload - if there are any that are unused, please link them into appropriate articles! The imported pages shown on Special:Log/import should all be in their natural places, though the categories may need creation (if so, please make sure it follows other categories of that type).

Elinks for WOTLK

All elinks template added to new WotLK articles don't work; wowhead for example uses a new site with prefix "wotlk." (wotlk.wowhead.com) to designate new content. Suggestion to fix this? -- 20:47, 19 July 2008 (UTC)

Uh-Oh

I decided to try out for beta and they'd email me if I'm chosen. However I've changed and gained like a dozen email accounts since I gave my credentials to WoW. They only list one letter of my email account and bleeped out 4 others. Combat Events (API) listing

The list of events in the Combat category is dominated by obsolete events which are marked with the text "Replaced in 2.4.0 with COMBAT_LOG_EVENT." How long are we going to have these obsolete events remain in the list? I know I personally don't like having to wade through a sea of obsolete events and other details when looking for documentation that may help my work on various addons. I propose moving these old events to another page if we want to keep them for historical purposes. In any case, I find it counterproductive to leave the list as it is now. Perhaps there is a policy regarding what we do with obsolete API information that I'm unaware of; if not, I think we need one, as we're only going to have more obsolete information as time goes on, especially with 3.0 on its way. -- Tuhljin (talk) 00:37, 23 July 2008 (UTC)

My suggested solution is to move all the outdated stuff from Events/C (which is the editable original) to Events/Removed, which I just created. Events listed in /Removed will not be populated to the category pages by the bot. --Mikk (T) 05:08, 23 July 2008 (UTC)

World of warcraft item categories

The World of Warcraft item categories (especially Category:World of Warcraft uncommon items, Category:World of Warcraft common items, Category:World of Warcraft rare items, and Category:World of Warcraft epic items) are too damn huge, to the point of not being navigable or practical. I think we should split it up somehow, probably by item level, and possibly have {{tooltip}} automatically categorize these so all we'd have to do is get a bot to remove the existing categories. Location maps

Rascilon has recently been uploading maps to highlight where locations exist - for example Image:Westfall brigade camp map.jpg. I like the idea, since our location articles don't generally say exactly where they are, but I can't help but think there's probably a much better way to do it using templates.

I personally find it silly to upload highlighted maps for an area that is labeled. If it was a place that was not marked on the map like many places are I would actually enjoy having a highlighted map to show me. Still... uploading the same image (with a different part highlighted) for every place within a zone seems excessive. So if Zone Map can be changed to add a green highlight that would be nice. Not sure what you mean - there is still a "Popular content" menu on the sidebar, and you can visit Special:Widgets to add the "Most visited" widget. Do you mean something different?

Travel hubs changes

Xaatyrus was bold recently and changed how the travel hubs sections work on zone articles. We started a discussion on User talk:Xaatyrus, which I'm now continuing here.

Essentially the change was to move the exact details of each flight point to the individual town/flightpoint articles. To be honest the situation seems rather muddled now as it has been partially reverted. So, what do people think - should the details of where each flight point connects to belong on the zone article? To be honest I saw no reason in the apparent change to remove the information of connection between flight paths, as players can often get stranded and don't know what flight paths connect to it. Ok, I'll put the information back. I was trying to remove as little as possible, but found that this info was irrelevant. Will put the information under the "Notes" section. Whether the isles are accessible to non-BC users or not has nothing to do with transportation. Participate in my research project on collaborative writing(?)

Members of the WoWWiki community are invited to participate in a research study about the collaborative writing on WoWWiki.com. My hope is to work closely with the community to accurately describe patterns collaborative writing activities such as reading and responding, collecting and recollecting information, and writing and revising on WoWWiki.

Much of what I'll be looking at will be interactions on article discussion pages and the Village Pump, and I hope to follow up that research with interviews about your experiences contributing to the wiki.

Incorrect citations

Just an observation, I am not sure how important it is, but 90% of the citations on wowwiki from the game manuals are wrong. When citing from PDF documents make sure you are entering the correct page by "manual" and not by "sidebar". The sidebar counts the front cover, table of contents, system requirements, back cover, and etc. as pages while they are not numbered pages in the manual. With the exception of Warcraft III, the manuals seem to be off by a few pages. Warcraft III though seems to be dozens of pages off. I will try to fix any that I come across but I think there are literally dozens of citations to be fixed.  Rolandius  (talk - contr) 04:20, 5 August 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the heads up. I think if citations are in the right book and can be found, the citation is okay, but needs page number fixing when possible. The citation can vary from one edition of the manual to the other. For example I have a manual of the Warcraft 2 UK edition which at all isn't the same as the US Warcraft 2 edition. It searches for related stubs, primarily based on the stub category if you were editing a stub, and the other categories on the page. If you edit a character article, it's more likely to suggest character stubs. How to prevent to same stuff coming up again and again? Heroic order list

Been trying to find a list of the heroics in order... a friend is trying to get enough gear to go to Kara and needs gear. Personally, as a feral druid, I feel The Mechanar and The Botanica are easy, but for a straight rogue instead of a rogue/tank, it may be different. Blood Furnace is rough even for me in my pretty good gear, those Felguard Brutes hit like friggin' trucks.

Anyway, my search-fu failed; if exists such a thing, I couldn't find it. Does anyone know of such a beastie? If not, should we start one? --Azaram (talk) 03:25, 7 August 2008 (UTC)

Arena Composition or Strategy Articles?

I noticed a lack of arena related material on WoWWiki. For instance, a search for very common arena setups such as 2345/6, Eurocomp, Cleave, or PMR returns no articles. Is there a particular reason Wowwiki has stayed away from these sorts of articles, or has it simply been that no one has created them yet? I'm more than willing to begin some articles. As far as I know there is no policy yet on writing arena articles, and since the nature of arena teams are rather fluid I'd question the need of the kind of articles. Like you have said yourself, the "Arena Junkies" (which I have never heard of myself) might provide you with more information about arena teams and setups. g0urra[T҂C] 15:55, 7 August 2008 (UTC)

I consider myself fairly knowledgable on arena teams and setups, but I think WoWWiki would be a great place for PvPers to view some of the more common compositions and terminology, and perhaps even strengths and weaknesses. Though compositions are fluid, those that tend to become "flavor of the month" stay relatively common. Rarely does a composition outright die. Considering the amount of detail on other parts of the game contained on WoWWiki (such as detailed theorycrafting and boss strategies), articles on arena comps seem conspicuously absent. FYI Arena Junkies is among the most (if not the most) popular arena focused websites with strategy guides, videos, etc... Halcor(talk)

Arena has been a continuing weakness for WoWWiki. I think people were getting so hung up on gear, that not much thought was put into creating build or strategy articles. Also, when some topic lacks information, it usually means no one who creates or contributes to articles has been really interested or they've found much better info other places. If you want to start some articles, just make sure to add [[Category:Arena PvP]] at the end somewhere.

Given the scope of the information and possibilities, it seems the best place to begin would be small. The whole thing would really best be achieved with one or two people spearheading it. They'd need to compile all the contributors input and suggestions into uniform pages because with so many variables and opinions, the whole concept could easily become an unnavigable clusterfudge. To avoid such an outcome, a good starting point would be with each individual class, outlining tips and tactics, strengths and weaknesses. Then, the top listed squads from each ladder could be compiled and charted, with the most common team compositions receiving the same treatment the individual class pages did initially. Ultimately, contributors-permitting, the least common compositions could be analyzed.K10wn (talk) 21:33, 13 August 2008 (UTC)

I've written a few articles, and time permitting, will flesh them out this weekend. I don't have great knowledge of all comps (such as Shadow Play), but I found some great analysis on PvPSource (specifically here), and will try to gain some support there, as well. I agree that strengths and weaknesses of individual classes can help (though they can very greatly based on spec and the playstyle for a particular comp), but I think that is a concurrent effort. If you take a gander at the class navigation table, you'll find the bottom row breaks down PvP tactics by each class. It seems with the evolution of arena play, there's no reason that shouldn't be broken into 2 seperate listings: standard PvP - in-game, BG's, and such (basically as it is now), and Arena. Because of the enormous difference between PvP in BG's and that which takes place in arena, it only makes sense.

If links to stubs were created there, it'd probably be a good kick-start for input and contributions. As those contributions accumulate, it may become obvious how best to organize and present the data. At the very least, it may motivate someone to start a project for the whole subject...it wouldn't even necessarily require someone extremely knowledgable in arena, just an objective editor with strong organizational skills who has enough knowledge to discern productive input from prattle. I have two questions. First, how do I see what pages I have created in my User page section? I think there are some pages I have forgotten (User:Rolandius/?) that I want to delete but I can't remember their names. First question -- go to the Special pages, click on All pages with prefix (which should be the 3rd option), type in your user name in the first box, make sure the second box says User, and hit go.

Second question -- On the far left side of the window just under the Google search box is a section known as Toolbox, clicking on What links here should do the trick. Loot for Wrath of the Lich King

Some time ago our resident Javascripter, Pcj, simplified the {{loot}} template to use JS to create search links for missing items. Unfortunately, this made it so the search links couldn't easily point to the new DBs for Wowhead and Thottbot. Well, as usually, Pcj quickly fixed that.

To point a loot link to the new beta DBs, just add |db=wtolk to your template wikicode, like so...

Missing item with search links:

Quest Compilation

Having 6 characters in Outlands (and one more on the way), it occurred to me that every single time I leveled through the game, I stumbled across a great deal of quest content that I'd missed before (not counting the class-specific stuff, which I anticipate). I reference wowwiki a dozen or so times on days I play (atleast 4 days a week) and I'm always impressed at how much data has already been compiled for most of these quests that I 'missed the last time through'.

One thing I've noticed, however, is a lack of uniformity in how the quests are listed in various regions/camps/etc. Some region pages list all the quests available on a camp-by-camp basis, and lately, there's been a shift to just linking a region's quests to it's own page.

Obviously, for some regions, listing all the available quests can be a real page-hog. But including a subsection for 'Quests' that consists exclusively of a link to another page is sort of redundant.

Why not compromise with a collapsible table that lists all the quests? If it's collapsed by default, then the information does not risk over-expanding a page, but is still entirely available to those who want to reference it without leaving the page.

Additionally, by compiling the quests into collapsible boxes for each camp, a central quest 'index' of sorts will be compiled and easily made into a page that can include every quest in the game that reguires virtually no scrolling (beyond the quest-listings a visitor is interested in).

For example, a visitor can go to the central quest index, expand only the quests they're interested in for a given region (or a specific class/profession) and access any quest details they need very quickly and easily.

Well, having collapsible tables or boxes is a good idea, but there is one problem with it. We need a policy to decide when a quest belongs in what camp. Should it be included if it starts in a camp? Ends in a camp? Doesn't happen in any particular place, because the quest giver wanders in a zone? We've generally tried to organize quests into pages with links named [[<zone>_quests]], so if you see some list different from this, it needs to be brought in line or updated. See WoWWiki:Quest list project for the way we've been trying to follow.

The other problem is that making these lists is alot of tedious work and working on them inside collapsible tables inside a zone article would be even more of a pain. If we get a comprehensive list for a particular zone we may move it as a collapsible table transcluded some how into the zone page, but then it would be inconsistent with the project we've already started.

Ultimately, if you want to see something done, you need to start doing it to see how much work it would be and then encourage others to follow your lead. Not much work gets done by people suggesting other people do the work. We would all love to tell other people to magically change things to how we would like it, but without showing an example, most people (including myself) will just see it as an effort to get something without giving anything. -- Fandyllic (talk · contr) 7:32 PM PST 13 Aug 2008

Fortunately, getting them into a collapsible box is extremely fast and easy. The quest lists/chains are already compiled for the most part, it's simply an issue of establishing the collapsible table format and copying each camp/region's quests into it.

If I go to a region I haven't been in for a while, I'll open that region's page to find quests that actually start there, so that would be the obvious manner for doing it. Once the format and listings have been completed, then we could tackle the issue of quests that take place or end in a region other than the questgiver's.

A few days ago, I slapped the quests for a couple of the camps I was in into the only established collapsible table I've ever been able to find in use on wowwiki (navbox)...you can check 'em out at Mok'Nathal Village and Thunderlord Stronghold. Because each table is a seperate entity, they could be compiled into one large regional table as collapsible child boxes (with all the other quest tables for the given region, obviously). Ultimately, all those regional listings could be collapsed and on one page as the central quest 'hub' (and as I mentioned earlier, that page would be very small until a user started expanding specific region tables). Oh, and it would take maybe 3 minutes each to implement these collapsible tables for most quest hubs. Once that's done, it would take all of 5 minutes to establish the centralized hub page.

Logins Using Non-Internet Explorer Browsers

It's impossible to log in to this (or any other Wikia Wiki) using Opera v9.51. I can't verify this is the same with Safari or FireFox, but something tells me it may very well be as such. Regardless, the reason I want to log in using Opera is because this (and several other sites) run INFINITELY more smoothly using Opera when compared to Internet Explorer. It may just be that Internet Explorer is a memory sink or that my copy has far too much first and third-party junk weighing it down, but regardless, Opera runs this Wiki far better than my Internet Explorer does. So...yeah.

As for what happens when I try to log in using Opera... It returns "Login error: You have not specified a valid user name." which means Opera isn't sending the right code or forgetting something. This only applies to the login PAGE, mind you, as the login BOX (which I can only get using Opera for some reason) just sits there and does nothing, neither sending nor recieving. I've tried logging in with this name on Opera using quotes and not using quotes, but I'm out of ideas. ~ Doc Lithius [U|T|C] 23:20, 17 August 2008 (UTC)

Spam Filtering of URLs already on the wiki?

Some kind of achievements article tag?

Maybe (for when WotLK hits) we could use some kind of template banner on articles (not obviously) related to achievements. For example, on the top of the Timbermaw Hold page it could read "This faction is part of the The Diplomat Achievement". I imagine it would get rather repetitive atop every quest page, but for ones with a specific achievement (such as the Hemet Nesingwary quests) it might be handy? Maybe it could also be used on pages like fall damage, alcoholic drinks, Haris Pilton, small pets, etc.

The homepage can only be updated by the GM that has server transferred. The forums have already been taken down which is basically the only thing the website contained anyway. The site itself will go down when the domain name doesn't get renewed. The armory only shows alts and some people that have stopped raiding and/or quit the game. Also, the armory only contains 33 characters which is far from the number required to progress or even continue to farm at the level the guild once did. The last boss the guild killed was Azgalor a couple of weeks ago. The DKP page on the website can confirm that. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Unyieldingsouls (talk · contr).

Warcraft Wiki?

I don't know if WoWWiki was / is intended to be a Wiki for all of Warcraft or just WoW, but I personally think it should become more focused on Warcraft as well as WoW. As in there's articles on almost every single WoW quest, item, and mob, but only a few articles on things like heroes from Warcraft 1 and 2 and 3. It makes me wonder why they're even there if the site is based on WoW and not the other Warcraft games. -- Naztheros (talk) 15:25, 1 September 2008 (UTC)

It is indeed intended to cover all of Warcraft - WoWWiki:About has more, plus various other pages - though it will have a WoW focus for a long time to come. We have a Warcraft universe specific portal on Portal:Warcraft universe. I know some of the RTS content is a bit lacking - but it's something we've been working on making easier by better categorization systems and promoting it more.

It's partly a problem of finding people who play Warcraft 1, 2, 3 and getting them interested in adding content - if you are, fantastic. I kinda have to disagree with Kirk. WoW is probably the single largest interpretation of the warcraft universe, thus why it has the most articles, but i suggest you take a closer look, Wowwiki is packed (thousands and thousands of pages) with information from the RTS series, the novels, the Pen and Paper game, etc...information not found anywhere in and often completely unrelated to WoW. Theres pages listing all the units and their specifications from warcrafts 1 - 3, mission pages, not to meantion all of that information is transfered over into the lore articles. Our most extensive articles usualy have to do with heros from the warcraft RTS series. For more examples see Portal:Warcraft_universe. According to Help:Parser function on meta.wikimedia.org, for core parser functions (PAGESINCATEGORY and PAGESIZE were added in 1.13): The syntax can be written with or without leading hash character (#).

However, I've found PAGESIZE needs to be used without a # and is case-sensitive: {{PAGESIZE:pagename}}, so just FYI.

WikiaStats extension test

Good morning! I'm here to tell you about a new feature we're testing out on your wiki - Special:WikiaStats.

For every wiki at Wikia, we generate statistics that track the number of new editors, the number of articles, and various other information important to the life-cycle of a wiki. These stats are much more detailed than the in-built MediaWiki statistics page found at Special:Statistics.

As Wikia has grown we have tried to improve our statistics package to our users more robust data. As part of our latest update, each wiki will receive a special page where any logged in user can view detailed statistical information about their wiki. In addition, a number of the statistics have had their methods of calculation updated to be more accurate. We hope this will aid users in deciding where to focus their efforts.

The new Wikia statistics pages can be found at Special:WikiaStats on this wiki. (Previously the information could be found on wikistats.wikia.com.) In addition, there will be a central WikiaStats page which allows you to look up any wiki's stats, though this is not yet live.

You can find out more about the new stats page at Help:WikiaStats on Wikia Help.

We are planning to release this to the rest of Wikia next week. In the meantime, we would love to get your feedback on the new stats page - where it's not clear, numbers that don't look accurate, or suggestions for improvement. Should I put this up?

Hey everyone, I'm a newbie here; I joined up to put up some pages which I think would be interesting, but before I do (and while I read the tutorial files :P) I thought I'd ask here as to if other people'd find it interesting. It's all to do with what I'm calling Psuedo-sets, which are basically BoE greens without a suffix, like the Ancestral Woollies, or War Paint Gloves, and what have you. All it'd be would be a description of what a Psuedo-set is, and then a list of each Psuedo-set, with the stats and levels required, etc, and a picture of what it'd look like.

Worth putting up, or should I just leave it?

PS Also, apologies if I mess a few things up, like I said, I'm a newbie :P

A bit more information might help. What are you calling a set? Random green stuff with no 'of the Whatever' enchant, or things that go together, similar to the set recolors (like  [Ravenwing Pauldrons] are a recolor of  [Wildheart Spaulders], and are part of the Wildheart lookalike set)? (later edit: got distracted) A list of lookalike stuff would be interesting, as would things with similar themes, at least to me. Something like the  [Fleshhide Shoulders] and  [Lionfur Armor] look similar, tan leather stitched together. At least to me... --Azaram (talk) 00:49, 15 September 2008 (UTC)

97 Things Every World of Warcraft Player Should Know

Good morning! I have a project to introduce to you all...

I am working on a book project with O'Reilly Media to collect tips for WoW players to compile into a book for publishing. The plan is for it to work thusly: we have a wiki set up where people can submit personal tips of around 250 words, which are then rated up and down, and the best tips are selected for the book.

The difference to WoWWiki is that these tips are each "owned" by the person who wrote them, and the writer gets his name and a short little biography in the book. I think it would complement WoWWiki well as we are not a "personal" guide wiki, and it gives the contributors more of a chance to shine. Whatever happens to the book, the wiki is planned to continue to exist.

The preliminary website is set up at http://commons.ora.com/wiki/index.php/97_Things_-_World_of_Warcraft - I would love for a few users to take a look, give us some feedback and perhaps start a few contributions of your own. I could go into more depth, but the linked page should explain most stuff.

Heya! After taking a look on your project with O'Reilly Media, I must admit I became very interested in contributing to it... I'm no way a major contributor on WOWWiki, and English is not my main language, but I shall do my best, actively polishing any contributions. My first idea is based on personal experience: an advice/tip about "Auction House Addiction". In short, this would initially enforce the economical stability, such as not expending too much on upgrades and using it as a tool for maximizing your income.

Status update

Preference tab bug

I'm hoping someone can help here... I was browsing Warhammer wikia and switched my skin from wowwiki to Monobook (since pages there were unreadable with the wowwiki skin.) Then, I came back here, and switched my preferences back to wowwiki. Now, I have a double row of tabs in the preferences at the top. But it only occurs on WoWWiki. Not on any other Wikia wikis. A call for regulation

I have noticed that many WotLK pages have quotes or info ripped strait from the files. I do not know what is live of not, but look at things like Malygos (tactics). I do not think they are. Just because a certain dark and deformed (formerly DNP) WotLK-themed rip-off of WoWWiki, or its Death Knightish cousin, or perhaps WOWinsider (Motorcycle) writes about datamined info does not mean we can use it as citation or justification. I think what was decided for Quel'danas applies here. Am I overreacting/complaining about something that has already been cleared up?--SWM2448 22:11, 15 September 2008 (UTC)

I'm about to go to bed, but: We're about to get a reskin for the main page to accommodate an ad - bit of a short warning I know, but it's certainly on topic :) The width will become fixed width and the box ad will disappear, and it only affects the main page until the ad is finished. Egregious use of icons

Regarding previous discussions of 'I like icons' vs 'I do not like icons' points of view, Tailoring patterns is among the worst uses of icons that I've seen on the site (the Components column). Neither the name of the component items nor the component item articles are linked (since icons link only to the icon container article). Since icons are reused for different items, the list is inherently ambiguous, and even if you are familiar with the items, some are ambiguous (spider silk, or thick spider silk?)

I would like to see a consensus standard for this sort of list. Given the various choices of representation of items, a quality colored tooltip link would be my top choice for all item links (ignoring for now the further question of loot template links vs item template links and whether there should be an icon included.)

I would also like to see a community consensus standard for quantity specifications in lists, so that there is a suggested 'right way' to do it. I've seen '6x[item]', '6x [item]', '6 x [item]', '[item]x6', '[item] x6', '[item] (6)', '[item] 0/6', and probably missed some others. I like 'number space x space item', it flows like the way we talk.

The 'times' character isn't on the keyboard, and × is a pain in the neck to type. I'd prefer just 'number item', like '6 netherweave'. Neither x or the times character is really appropriate anyway, since you're not multiplying it if you want to be really picky. The 6x is an artifact of chat, since you wouldn't ever say "That item needs six times netherweave"... If a seperation character is absolutely necessary, a - would be better. I already is split, sort of; someone made the sections transcludable articles a while back. Having a page that lists all of the recipes for a profession is handy, I use them frequently. List of Ongoing Conflicts

Hello everyone! This might not be the right place to put this, but this is basically me asking for someone to either make a category or an article citing all the current Official Ongoing Conflicts taking place in World of Warcraft. This could be laid out similarly to the article for such found on regular wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ongoing_conflicts

The articles for the conflicts themselves already exist, obviously; I'm just seeking one place to click where it lists All of them. We have categories which do this for all varieties of things, but none specifically for conflicts. I could even do it myself, if someone can tell me how to get started. Thanks!

Edit: Obviously just about every single inch of all of World of Warcraft is a conflict zone, so perhaps I should specify that the category/article should just list the Major conflicts, such as the conflict between the Alliance & Horde, the Scourge, Burning Legion, etc. Just a list of all the articles that are about current conflicts. If someone wishes to be pedantic about it, they could even list details like conflicts against the centaur clans, the quillboar, etc.

Wrath of Cenarius

Previously, the article for the item Wrath of Cenarius used the main Wrath of Cenarius article. However, as I find the article for the talent Wrath of Cenarius to be more appropriate for this page I attempted to move the talent article to the main article. Unfortunately, I'm not allowed to do so and I have no clue how to do it other than using brute force (edit and overwrite). Image display problems caused by Wikia server problem...

Area between Dun Morugh and Elwyn Forest

Has there been any talk about the area between Dun Morough and Elwyn Forest? I have always thought they should put something there.

Technically Pen, that area is between Dun Morogh and Stormwind because Stormwind is a seperate zone from Elwynn Forest. I am not sure what they would put there if they ever did open that area up. In lore though, I think some of that closed area north of Stormwind City would be part of the Stormwind zone since they talk about mountains and creatures in the Stormwind zone north of Stormwind City. Also, I read some theories on here that Blackchar Cave located in the Searing Gorge might connect to that closed area. At one point you could get into Blackchar cave through certain ingame spell abilities. Its actually just another one of those generic caves found in other parts of the world. As I recall similar to the one in Stranglethorn, where you fight Kurzen.Baggins (talk) 06:13, 25 September 2008 (UTC)

Oh ya I know. What I meant was Blackchar Cave looks like it is leading into that closed off area according to some people. So if they ever unblocked the entrance and extended the cave I guess it would enter that closed area. Well, in a long while, the expansion may drop down to around $20, but if your computer doesn't work that's a bigger problem.

Table / Linkk / Portlet Weirdness when not logged into the Wiki ...

I was browsing about earlier when I noticed that a reagent table was malformed. Check out this behaviour:

Enchant_Weapon_-_Agility

When -not- logged into the wiki, the "Reagents" table is messed up - the quantities appear below the reagents themselves. The "Report a Problem" link (bottom, right side) is also malformed. The "Community" and "Related Communities" appear briefly, and are then pushed far down, below the ads. The "Reagents" table appears OK in IE - the portlets and "Report a Problem" link are still malformed, however.

Once logged into the Wiki, the table, link and portlets all appear to operate as expected. I can reproduce this under Firefox, IE8, IE7 (Emulated) and Google Chrome.

It looks like the template used is {{EnchantmentReagents}} and it isn't technically a table, but some arcane arrangement of <div>s, some of which are floating. There are also alot of #if's used. I would tell Kirkburn to forward the issue on to some Wikia's technical folks to look at. levelling todo list

Firstly - wiki newb here so I'm open to correction on any front.

I have searched but can't seem to find the type of resource I am looking for so I thought I might write one.

A levelling todo list: At any given level check the todo list for reminders of changes you need to make.

e.g. new food levels available, ammo upgrades, instances now available, significant class quests

Does anyone know if something like this already exists?

Any thoughts on whether this is needed, viable, stupid?

This would need to be splitted by class/levelling talent choice, since not everyone needs every quest, but there are certain ones that yield good armor/weapons for a specific class, and by tradeskill, though it is of course already suggested to only skill near a trainer, and check him every 5 points - you can even see which recipes are coming up next - but of course there's also rare/vendor recipes, and specialisations to consider. WotLK stub on milling article
