The son of Fandral Staghelm, Valstann fought alongside his father in the War of the Shifting Sands against the Silithid and their Qiraji masters. When news arrived that Southwind Village was under attack, Valstann volunteered to lead a detachment to defend the village, and Fandral reluctantly agreed. Three days later, the Qiraji general, Rajaxx, brought an injured Valstann to the front of the Qiraji lines and held him up for all to see. Realising that Southwind had fallen and his son's detachment wiped out, Fandral and his forces could only watch in horror as General Rajaxx proceeded to rip Valstann in two with his claws.
