Fix on Aledar's Battlestar
Thank you so much.
Hi Sannse, I've been heavily pre-occupied offline recently so have fallen a few days behind in Wikia stuff, apologies for that.
I've two things to say, firstly being that while it "may cause some shouting" to use your own words, I personally totally understand that you can't go around handing out copyrighted images - no I hadn't thought of it either, but it makes sense now that I have. I realize there'll be those talking about how convenient it might sound, but the law's the law and if people choose to be ignorant then that's their decision.
On a very serious, and unfortunately negative, topic I'd be hugely grateful if you could respond in any way here. I'll be honest that I have developed something of a grudge against Wikia in the last while, but I stress that I have in no way submitted that edit as some kind of revenge. The health of contributors and readers is more important than I could ever convey with words; if anyone is guilty of both ignoring and removing feedback claiming Wikia is responsible for health issues, I'd feel infinitely better about the company if I heard of a vacancy after an investigation.
I know that I'm really causing a fuss here and I'm sorry for the position I'm putting you in. But people's health is just far too important, and when I read that claim - which has yet to be verified as true - I was seriously alarmed.
- Hi AFK. I've answered there, and am happy to repeat here: we have not removed comments for any reason other than abuse (of the "you are a $%$#%!" type), spamming (including flooding the blogs with large numbers of comments saying the same thing) or vandalism (including simple random text). We are very aware that people need to have their say - and we need the feedback too. The changes in the font are just one of the many that have happened with the help of the Beta testers and later users of the skin, and we need that process to continue. That's not to say that direct feedback is the be-all-and-end-all of the process... sometimes we have data that shows an alternative is better (for example, if power users tend to hate the placement of the sign-in button, that doesn't mean that it's not better at encouraging anons to make an account). But we certainly need the feedback to continue. -- Sannse (help forum | blog) 19:35, October 15, 2010 (UTC)
DMCA/Safe Harbor and Copyright
Left a note on the 'leave' forum asking if you'd expand on the discussion of why Wikia said "not gonna" to the image dump. The impression I got from the 'leave' forum comment you left was that a) you're not a lawyer, and b) that being so, you paraphrased and simplified the issue to a sound bite that left the legal arguments indecipherable. Could you expand on them, bitte? I may be the only one interested in the details of this specifically, so your or my talk page may be most appropriate. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 20:19, October 19, 2010 (UTC)
- Hi Eirik, I'm definitely not a lawyer :) so I can't expand much further... but, as you said on the forum, the issue is in us giving the images, not in this wiki or any other using the images. It changes us from a host of user uploaded content to a provider of potentially copyrighted files. The text content is different, because that's explicitly under a free license. -- Sannse (help forum | blog) 02:21, October 20, 2010 (UTC)
Why was the link to http://www.wowpedia.org removed from WoWWiki:News? I fail to see any legitimate reason for this. It's actions such as this that will only serve to further alienate the remaining editors and drive them away. I hope you will reconsider this removal of a simple link, and restore it. Thanks. --Kris talk 02:18, December 8, 2010 (UTC)
