Guild:Lords of War (Eitrigg US)

Why did you delete this page -- I was working on it when you deleted it -- I put the {{Guild}} tag as well as the Category:PvE guilds Tags and was working on the content - then I go to preview it I see "Page was removed by a Administrator while you were editing it" or words to that effect message -- ( Morph | Contribs | Talk ) 19:17, 6 February 2009 (UTC)

Please create a non-blank guild page, otherwise it will be speedy deleted per the DNP policy. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 19:21, 6 February 2009 (UTC)

Why did you delete Patch 3.1.0 (undocumented changes)? I don't have a backup of the article, so I'm a bit frustrated right now, if the point was to just move the content to some 'correct' place. -Howbizr (talk) 19:51, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

There are no undocumented changes because there are no "documented" changes. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 20:18, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

I'm having trouble with some editors on the Template:Nexus. It links Malygos (tactics) as [[Malygos (tactics)|Malygos]]. A very difficult distinction from Malygos, an article had read previously looking for a strategy. I thought to make the distinction more clear I'd change it to something like Malygos (tactics). Every time I make the change or try to find a better way to clarify it, someone reverts it. The revert comments have been like, "editors can hover their mouse" or "once they click through they'll realize" or "Template:The Eye of Eternity takes care of this" when in fact Template:The Eye of Eternity does the same thing with Malygos and is not readily available unless you click show and look for 'lore'. I understand their possessiveness over the templates, but clearly not making the distinction only hurts the wiki and I see no down side to adding the two links as I proposed or any other solution. Any thoughts Mkdwtalk 08:23, 19 February 2009 (UTC)

I have a question for you... you say you went to Malygos accidentally when looking for a strategy, right? From this template? So rather than click the link, you typed it in, not realizing a (tactics) is included? User:Coobra/Sig3 08:30, 19 February 2009 (UTC)
I went to Eye of Eternity which looked like this when I first clicked it. No mention of strategy, so I clicked Malygos on the top which led me to the lore section. I ignored the other Malygos' on the EoE page because I assumed they went to the same place because... well it did say it. So I began to write a strategy for it until someone reverted my edits and in their comment mentioned Malygos (tactics) AND that time they didn't retitled it. Low and behold I clicked it knowing it was different than Malygos. Now that was so much easier than Malygos (tactics)... Mkdwtalk 08:41, 19 February 2009 (UTC)
Ah, ok so the first linked maly went to the lore page, but Gourra attempted to fix the link, which you undid... then I undid your undid cause it shouldn't have been a see also thing when it was supposed to be the main thing. But I changed it back and made the strategy pop out more than just see also. Which unless someone else undoes that, I think it can stay like that. User:Coobra/Sig3 08:59, 19 February 2009 (UTC)
I see you're running into the same problem I was having. Someone has redone your work and yet again it says Malygos and Malygos. The section Mobs doesn't clarify whether its a strategy or lore. So Malygos appears 5 times on the article (2 of which go to lore), but you'd never know which goes where unless you hover. I'm sure most editors are like me in that they don't hover every link they click. They see Naxx they'll click it. They see a boss name in the Naxx article, they'll click it. Personally what you did before was better and if indeed the article name has the word tactics in it, which it does, then why can't the link reflect that? The reason tactics is in the article name is to distinguish itself from the article Malygos instead of calling it 'Malygos 2'. There seems to be some stigma that it's a sin to leave the article name in and retitle it making it more confusing and inconvenient. Retitles were meant to make the article more clear for readers if the article title didn't do that in the context of where the link was being used. Not for aesthetic purposes. Mkdwtalk 19:41, 19 February 2009 (UTC)
Please take this discussion to the template talk page. The link should be [[Malygos (tactics)|Malygos]], since this is a navigation template between instances, not a division of lore. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 20:00, 19 February 2009 (UTC)

ajax on non-eng pages

Hi, Pcj, i'd like to use your awesome ajax script for auto-updating pages, but i have wiki with non-eng. pagenames, so the script cannot set cookie correct, can u help me plz, what i need to edit to make it work-- drdead (talk) 20:51, 21 February 2009 (UTC)

You should change wgPageName to wgArticleId in the cookie setting/reading part. That should make it fully internationalized. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 20:38, 22 February 2009 (UTC)
Tried this, but still doesnt work. Script writes cookie: "ajaxload-!" as content, not as name instead of name "ajaxload-blabla" and content "on" --drdead (talk) 22:36, 22 February 2009 (UTC)

Just wondering if any other work on this was going to be completed. You said I had tio get everything else into place, and I believe I have done that. Something needs to be done about BobbyDazzler he is deliberately going to different pages and changing the content to F**k (repeated many times) - not 1 or 2 or even 3 pages ( so far I think I seen 7 or maybe 8 at last count ) pages vandalized by this person -- ( Morph | Contribs | Talk ) 00:09, 25 February 2009 (UTC)

Removal of changes from Patch 3.1.0 (undocumented changes) - I thought the point was to document the undocumented

I thought the point of the Undocumented changes page was to document what was missing from the official patch notes? How do you know what people want / do not want to see in them? I know of many people who want to know when new mounts and pets come out because they collect them - and I as a tailor like to know what new Recipies I will be able to make? The whole purpose of a wiki is for all to be able to add stuff (known to be true) to the wiki - why would anyone contribute if YOU keep removing things from them becaue You think no one wants to see that info (and I put the TOC to the right because it allowed for more information to be shown on the screen without makeing the page Scroll forever (since no text can be shown to the right of the current TOC (but {{tocright}} moves the TOC to the right and allows text to be displayed next to it on the left (taking up less space) - your way is Resctictive / Censored (to the contributors) and wasteful of page space -- ( Morph | Contribs | Talk ) 01:44, 27 February 2009 (UTC)

There are other ways to place the additions. This page should be limited to changes. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 02:33, 27 February 2009 (UTC)
But those are changes (additions are changes to the game) changed from not being there to now being there. What do we have to do? make a page Patch 3.1.0 (undocumented additions) to place the Additions to the patch? That does not make sense. -- ( Morph | Contribs | Talk ) 03:26, 27 February 2009 (UTC)
Mounts on the list of mounts, achievements on the list of achievements, Argent Tournament quests on its own page. It's the way we've always done it. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 03:51, 27 February 2009 (UTC)

Deleted Guild Page without notice or explanation, Attn: Pcj

Hello, I represent the WoW Guild "Wicked Tribe" on the Doomhammer US server in World of Warcraft, and would like for our Wiki article to be fully restored as soon as possible. It was deleted without comment or notice, either by mistake or malice, by "Pcj" according to the e-mail notice dated 2-25-09, and was linked to from this page:, as are many of the other guilds.

The article was drafted to inform other WoW players of our history, structure, and principles, and was edited by another Admin already once who provided additional formatting and tags, and there is no reason that it should have been deleted in this manner.

It is not unreasonable to expect a reply within 48 hours, based on the number of posts here, and evidently deleting guild pages is not something Pcj normally does.

Thanks in advance for your help.

It was not properly categorized. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 00:53, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

Was it not stubbed properly by another Admin some time around 2/4? I'd like to be able to check the revision history again, and compare it to the guidelines page.

Thank You ````

EDIT: My mistake, it was 1/24 by Admin Gourra

Dear Jakalecax,

No edit summary was given

--Jakalecax (talk) 01:24, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

I didn't add any categories that would make the article categorized. --User:Gourra/Sig2 08:46, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

You didn't bother to summarize the changes either, nor include any remark about the two missing categories, so how was the author to know? At the time the article was written there was nothing which was intuitively found in wiki's policies or guidelines which directed one to read your full guild article tos, specifically with regards to "missing categories" (we just copied the form of what was an acceptible guild article at the time), and given the number of guilds which have had similar article structure it would be more time efficient for everyone moving forward for WoWWiki to include some warning before articles are deleted, and we wind up here.

Naturally you both may disagree, and evidently neither of you intend to be helpful and restore our page so that these two lines can be added: Categories Horde Guilds, and PvE guilds. One can take for granted that it would have to be rewrittetn from scratch, and that through warningless policy changes in the future others may likely find some other reason to delete it.

If being an Admin is merely the power to exercise brevity, you both excel at it.

Forgive me for expecting more.

--Jakalecax (talk) 22:36, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

You obviously saw what Gourra put on your page, maybe you should have read it. See {{Stub/Guild}} for what it says. I will restore it if you apologize for lying about the guild policies not being fully in place at the time you created the page and for expecting us to neglect the policy for you. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 22:55, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

I will not apologise to you or anyone else for "lying," and I accuse you of gross misconduct since you are apt to bend policy on the condition of receiving an apology to which you are not entitled; rather than to just restore it by request on the condition that the article be changed to fit into the two extra categories you very reluctantly called my attention to.

The policies and guidelines to which I linked were indeed read by me when I made an account and before publishing, and I followed the template of an already existing guild article, and in fact read the WW:Guild policies upon your stunted "See WW:Guild" reply. You gave no indication what was wrong with it until after that time, and despite the evidence that another Admin had seen our Guild Article and had edited it without comment, you cut me no slack for trying to understand what had happened or what was wrong, or for trying to comply.

You aren't simply unhelpful, you are complexedly so.

And I know even better now what not to ask for.

And from whom.

--Jakalecax (talk) 17:42, 1 March 2009 (UTC)

If you cannot follow policy, I cannot help you. As an administrator, I am enforcing policy, and I make no apology for it. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 19:09, 1 March 2009 (UTC)

I have shown a willingness and readiness to follow policies which are clear and abundantly available, generally and specifically with regards to the "improper categorization" which you had to be prodded to identify (in our Guild's case, it is still assumed- simply missing "Horde Guilds" and "PvE Guilds" tags), so you are intentionally mischaracterising our discourse and disparaging me personally.

As an Administrator who has demanded an apology from me to which you are not due, and will not receive, and who has selectively and contingently enforced policy, it is bare naked that you make no apologies of any sort; even if you could not conduct your affairs any less charitably, civily, or diligently.

Upon checking our guild link again, our article still has not been restored as well-requested three times before, and that I will not be given the opportunity to "follow policy" and to correct any categorization problems with the original copy.

You have refrained from any and all assistance deliberately, and exercised the worst discretion imaginable.

That- is thoroughly sorry.

--Jakalecax (talk) 21:36, 2 March 2009 (UTC)

Please discontinue this harassment or I will take measures to ensure that you do. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 21:40, 2 March 2009 (UTC)
I would like to point out that you can simply recreate the guild page to comply with policy, but restoring the deleted page is entirely at my discretion. Sorry. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 21:50, 2 March 2009 (UTC)

So it appears that I am not a lone complainant in this category. On March 12, 2009 I too received notice that my guild's wowwiki page had been deleted without notice or reason. Realm Fenris, Guild Disciples of the Light. It seem unfortunate for my smaller raiding guild and these fine guilds above that our sites were seemingly indiscriminately marked for deletion for reasons unknown. As a user/editor I would very much like to know what policies our site so neglectfully omitted/contained as to merit a full unrecoverable deletion. Seems to me an administrator of a site dedicated to a Game intended for light-hearted recreation, you would treat this position as a similar source of recreation. Please look to your position in this fashion, Pcj, and to the fundamental reason for this site's purpose of diversion and merriment, and not of scorn, retaliation, or as your last reply seems to indicate, threat.

--[[[User:Moonbow70|Moonbow70]] (talk) 22:30, 13 March 2009 (UTC)]

This is policy, if you have a problem with an implementation of the policy as it reads, please discuss it at WoWWiki talk:Policy/Writing/Guild_pages. Thanks. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 22:34, 13 March 2009 (UTC)

Preferences/extension issue

Morning! I was planning on switching on a new addition today called user badges (see the announcement on [1]), but when I tried it out, it seemed to destroy the tooltips tab in the preferences window. Is that due to changing the number of preference tabs? Is it a quick fix? Thanks Kirkburn  talk  contr 00:39, 7 March 2009 (UTC)

How does the tooltips thing work now? Found WoWWiki:Tooltips, cool :) Btw, we're also having some problems with the main page loading - do you know of any changes in the past few days that might have caused that? Not to accuse you, but we're getting kinda stuck finding a possible reason atm :s Did you change any caching stuff? Kirkburn  talk  contr 00:52, 12 March 2009 (UTC)
Looks like it was the WoW Insider RSS feed instead, which I've removed for now. We're going to look into why that had such a catastrophic effect. Kirkburn  talk  contr 01:13, 12 March 2009 (UTC)

Lords of War (Eitrigg US) sub page removal

Why did you remove the supbage {{:Lords of War (Eitrigg US)/Guild Stats}}? - I put all the information you require on it:

Category:PvE guilds Category:Alliance guilds Category:Server:Eitrigg US

And per your policy if my page did not meet requirements ( since you do NOT like to explain why you {{delete}} things in the Descriptions ) - you think everyone can just read your mind or somthing - it states you will 1st put {{Stub/Guild}} for 30 Days
2nd and then {{speedydelete}} if it is not corrected -- You should show some sence of Inteligece and Explain things - not everyone can read your mind - and who knows someone may have MISSED a rule -- all you have to do is say see the section on <section> so we can fix it - YOU do not give anyone a chance to fix anything -- you just DELETE -( Morph | Contribs | Talk ) 17:47, 7 March 2009 (UTC)

How did I name it wrongly ?? I put in a link inside the main page {{/Guild Stats}} - or is did you want it to be small stats {{/Guild stats}}? -- ( Morph | Contribs | Talk ) 18:05, 7 March 2009 (UTC)
For whatever reason, it produced a page that was named "/Guild stats" (when it should have been produced "Guild:X (Y US)/Guild stats, but that looks like a bug)... which obviously is a bad way to name it. --Sky (t · c · w) 18:10, 7 March 2009 (UTC)
And a bug in Wikia's Software warrants the right to not Explain anything ?? How was I to know it did not show up correctly in your reports because the page it made the page properly ( it just did NOT show up on your end properly )) - that is NOT my fault that Wikia had a bug - and I should have been told why it was deleted - no matter what - we do deserver that ( SMALL ) amount of information - and as stated before - he was supposed to 1 Tag it with {{Stub/Guild}} for 30 days and then {{speedydelete}} if it is not corrected ( or the very least - heaven forbid he could have moved it to the right place ) -- but no mater what asking him to put a explanation is not asking too much - ( Morph | Contribs | Talk ) 18:40, 7 March 2009 (UTC)
Calm down, there was a technical problem with the page name which limited what you could do with it. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 19:44, 7 March 2009 (UTC)

question about deleted page Template:User_Loremaster_(continent)

i created a couple Template:User_Loremaster_(continent) entries... i think it were Template:User_Loremaster , Template:User_Loremaster_Outland , Template:User_Loremaster_Northrend ,Template:User_Loremaster_Kalimdor & Template:User_Loremaster_EasternKingdom .. since i felt they were missing from the collection (and since i wanted to use them) .. but now (some?) they are gone ?!! , granted they could have been better and i had copied the concept but at least used the correct image and links and all that nice stuff.. so i ask myself, why are they deleted ? did your bot catch them since i made the final 3 in a short timespan of each other ? or is there a other reason? Ose replaced them with {{User achievement}}. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 03:29, 14 March 2009 (UTC)
ahhh.. i noticed about 30 seconds ago as well , i thought you deleted it since i had a 'old but containing more' preview of my user page open in background and that showed the templates as broken ; but i had changed enough that i did't want to just refresh straight away. .. so i carefully looked in a new window where the template had gone and all i found was the line that it was deleted.. but after a while noticed that my user page still had it. which confused me all the more... and thats when i found out what really happened ... anyway, thanks :) .. good idea too, that {{User achievement}} CoZ 03:48, 14 March 2009 (UTC)

ohh .. one other thing .. I started and postponed/failed misserable to come up with a template that was supposed to end up having the same functionality/feel as the ingame achievement panel or , in simple terms, i wanted to see if its possible to create a more browse friendly template/navigation thingy. .

the current World of Warcraft achievements navigation tool is too limited, and the overviews of the individual category's like Player_vs._Player_achievements give in my opinion a slight information overflow if you just want to browse the achievements.

Is there already something alike in development?

Yesterday, you deleted the subpage "Smokywood_Pastures/Feast_of_Winter_Veil_lower_value_goods_vendors". Is there a way I could see the content of that page? Works flawlessly. A few more questions though if I may... I notice here that your Portal:Main does not show a header telling you the page name. How was that done? Also, should I add a simple redirect from Main Page to Portal:Main? Or is there another way to state what page is the main page in settings somewhere? — Rappy talk 21:07, 21 March 2009 (UTC)
Hopefully this is the last time I bother you. For some reason, when navigating to the main page without {{{portal}}} being set, it is defaulting to Burnout 2, when it should be Burnout Paradise. Would you mind checking the code to see if it is your error or mine? I can't seem to find it. Also, is there a way to take the focus away from the tab you just clicked? It's surrounded by a orange box once you click it. — Rappy talk 22:33, 21 March 2009 (UTC)

Tooltip quirkiness

Hi. I have been noticing a few quirks with tooltips under various browsers, and was told this would be an appropriate place to mention them. Mostly, the issue I experience is that tooltips for quests and categories (the one that indicates if the category is empty or has pages/subcategories) get positioned under the cursor in certain cases. There are a few examples I can mention. One is the Reputation Quests table on the Sons of Hodir page. If the browser window is small enough, the popup appears under the cursor, preventing the user from clicking on the quest. Sometimes the popup is just below the cursor, but most often the cursor seems to end up at the middle of the right edge. Further down the page, where rep items are listed, there is no problem, as the item popup is displayed further to the left of the cursor. I noticed this issue in Firefox,, Internet Explorer 8 with and without Compatibility Mode, and Google Chrome.

The other quirk can be seen on Category:Things to do, with the categories in the rightmost column. In Firefox, the tooltip flickers, and is hard to view. In Chrome, it is positioned below the mouse, preventing clicks. And in Internet Explorer 8, the tooltips don't display at all. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Wige (talkcontr).

I'll look at it. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 18:58, 23 March 2009 (UTC)
Hi, I found this issue too and reported about it here I was able to fix it for russian wiki, you can see fix here Fixed tooltip positioning should work skin independantly and across all browsers except IE6. Fix is based on using of positioning:fixed for tooltip positioning and clientX/clientY for mouse coordinates. Fairax (talk) 10:54, September 26, 2009 (UTC)

Help with link search please

I'm very new at this. What i would like to do is that when you search Untold, (Untold from Sentinels US) my guild appears in the results. Right now, there is an Untold guild, redirect from Guild:Untold, but its another one, from another server. What do i have to do for mine to appears?

Thx for helping

Elders of Turalyon Removal

I'm unclear as to why a page (The Elders of Turalyon (Turalyon US)) was deleted? The page had relevant information that's only issue was that it was the target of vandals.

The page was fine.

Is it policy to remove pages when we simply feel like they aren't worth monitoring for random acts of childishness? Isn't this just kowtowing to those immature people who would do such a thing in the first place?

Welcome tool fixed

Hi! I got your e-mail about the welcome tool. There was a problem with the welcomes for a couple hours this morning... I'm glad you caught it and switched out @latest. We figured out what the problem was -- we're trying to add one more piece of customization, but the tweak didn't work right. It's fixed now, so I'll switch MediaWiki:Welcome-user back to @latest.

So -- sorry about the confusion -- this is always the way it goes with brand-new features; you have momentary bumps along the way. If you see any more problems with it, please let me know! -- Danny@fandom (talk) 21:12, 27 March 2009 (UTC)

MatureAssKickers stub/guild

I saw that you'd tagged Guild:MatureAssKickers (Bleeding Hollow US) and wanted to verify what caused that. Is it because the name is not in the armory? At one time that was the guild's name, but apparently someone complained and Blizzard asked for a rename. (It was our name since 2000 for another game, Tribes 2, and we brought it with us into WoW. We're mostly a bunch of older guys.) So we changed it to < M A > (space, M, space, A, space). I've put that name as a comment on the realm page. I suppose I should add this info to the history section of our guild page. What's the best course of action to deal with the stub tag? Rename pages and links? Or keep the name and add a redirect from the in-game abbreviated name? -- ScratchMonkey (talk) 17:52, 30 March 2009 (UTC)

Move the page to the correct name and provide the required categorization per guild page policy. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 17:54, 30 March 2009 (UTC)
Is there anything special I need to do to deal with the spaces bracketing the in-game name? Should it be Guild: M A (Bleeding Hollow US) (double space after the "A")? It looks like the Wiki code is going to remove the bracketing spaces, which will likely put us back in the same situation. (This also caused trouble with our WoWRoster software, and I had to get a code fix for that.) -- ScratchMonkey (talk) 18:18, 30 March 2009 (UTC)
Drop the leading and trailing spaces in your guild name. I will adjust the policy accordingly. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 18:21, 30 March 2009 (UTC)
Done. Thanks. -- ScratchMonkey (talk) 18:33, 30 March 2009 (UTC)

Looks like the page was deleted again. The edit comment in the notification email was truncated, so I don't know what the reason was. Here's the Armory page. -- ScratchMonkey (talk) 05:59, November 25, 2009 (UTC)

Because of the way you named it, the {{guild}} template doesn't seem to work correctly with it, thus showing an error when clicked on for your armory page. I've restored it and added an armory link at the bottom. User:Coobra/Sig4 06:50, November 25, 2009 (UTC)
It also doesn't seem to show up on an Armory search... --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 13:23, November 25, 2009 (UTC)
I do apologize for the naming scheme. That was done before I joined the guild and volunteered to write a wiki page for it, and I completely sympathize with the problems it's causing. As a programmer myself, I detest spaces in filenames, and leading and trailing significant spaces are particularly abhorrent. (I was a member of MA the multi-game team long before it played WoW, but didn't start playing WoW until long after others on the team had to deal with Blizzard's naming policy. Others ran into the same problem with Guild Wars, but GW's creators relented and reinstated our full name.) -- ScratchMonkey (talk) 16:14, November 25, 2009 (UTC)
FWIW, I don't consider this a highly important problem, so feel free to back-burner it. If you can let me know "what links here" I can change those links to web links that point to the guild's hosting, instead. -- ScratchMonkey (talk) 16:16, November 25, 2009 (UTC)

Your thoughts on alternating color row table javascript

Take a look at w:Forum:Alternative row colors in a table. Should we try using a variation of that javascript on WoWWiki? guild page deletion

I'd like to know why exactly you deleted my guilds page Eudaemonia (talk) 23:17, 29 April 2009 (UTC)

Which guild page? --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 23:20, 29 April 2009 (UTC) (talk) 23:26, 29 April 2009 (UTC)
It did not have required categorization per WW:GUILD. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 23:29, 29 April 2009 (UTC)
It is exactly the same format as our other guild page located here: so perhaps you could be a bit more specific about what exactly isn't meeting the guidelines. Also - I'd like it restored since I had no previous notice that there was anthing wrong with it. The page has been there for quite a long time so this is rather out of the blue to be deciding it doesn't meet some criteria this late after creation. Eudaemonia (talk) 00:32, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
Your other page has the correct categorization. Look in "Categories" at the bottom of the page. Also see the WW:GUILD for how notification of guild stubbing is handled. I will restore your page if you will categorize it correctly. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 00:37, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
That seems a bit excessive to delete something because it said raiding guild instead of pve guild. In any case it's corrected. I'd suggest to you that perhaps you should review your deletion process however. After reviewing your page of talk comments, it seems to be a common issue that you are getting complaints about deleting guilds pages.... I would have fixed the issue if I had known it was one to start with (which seems to be the general "theme" in your past discussions with people)Eudaemonia (talk) 02:15, 30 April 2009 (UTC)

Like this [Frostmourne] but for spells effects, buffs and debuffs. Basically if you look at the buff

pages (like Battle Shout) they use the "Infobox ability" template. The first thing it displays is a little box that looks like it could be a mouse over tooltip. Basically that would be great to have as a mouse over.

OK, I'll work on it. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 01:18, 1 May 2009 (UTC)

Harkor's Ingredients

I assume you have a particular reason for reordering the flavor line; could you tell me? As far as I know, it makes no difference. And as for the item level, Thottbot listed no level, there's no level shown in-game, and it's a quest item, for the love of peat. Does it really make that much of a difference?

As for Shimmering Snowcap, is there a policy standard on object image placement? --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 20:21, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

Item level does play a part in several different templates and I do like to have it on all tooltips for the sake of consistency.
As far as image placement, no policy, but the guideline (WW:IMG) says, "Images should generally be right aligned to enhance readability by allowing a smooth flow of text down the left margin - the "thumb" option does this by default." --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 20:35, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

Hey, I am Stefan and I am working on a main page for the dutch RuneScape and WOW wiki. I liked these tabs and portals and copied it to the RuneScape wiki and adapt the page into dutch. I made already an homepage for the Runescape site, but the tabs are not working like here. Every time that I click on a tab, I will go to that page, instead of staying on the same page.

Could you help me?

--Darth Stefan (talk) 16:25, 6 May 2009 (UTC)Darth Stefan

You need to install the relevant JavaScript too:
// portal switch
var pspans;
var cTab = 1;
function doPortals() {
tabs = document.getElementById("mptabs");
if (tabs) {
pspans = tabs.getElementsByTagName("span");
for (x=0;x<pspans.length;x++) {
if (pspans[x].className == "activetab" || pspans[x].className == "inactivetab") {
pspans[x].parentNode.onclick = switchTab.bind(pspans[x].parentNode,x/2);
if (pspans[x].parentNode.tagName.toLowerCase() == "a") {
pspans[x].parentNode.href = "javascript:;";
} else {
pspans[x] = "pointer";
if (pspans[x].className == "activetab") cTab = (x/2)+1;
function switchTab(x) {
pspans[2*(cTab-1)].className = "inactivetab";
document.getElementById("portal"+cTab).style.display = "none";
cTab = x+1;
pspans[2*x].className = "activetab";
document.getElementById("portal"+cTab).style.display = "";
function performTabs() {
if (wgCanonicalNamespace == "Portal") doPortals();
You will need to put the portals in the Portal namespace for this to activate or otherwise change the script to recognize each page. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 16:34, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

tooltips on other wikis

Hi Pjc,Ii was talking with T-motion of, trying to get your tooltips to work, and i figured out why its not working. the popup is working now, but its not finding the data it needs because its looking in the wrong pagename.

his test is at its attempting to request data from

notice whats wrong there?

something in your code is assuming its working under wowwiki's short url structure, and seems to be taking everything after the first / as the pagename, instead of using the available mediawiki js global wgPageName. rather then spend hours trying to untangle where its coming from, i'll let you, since you likely know right where its doing that at.

i hope you can help. --Uberfuzzy@fandom 05:36, 13 May 2009 (UTC)

You can't very well use wgPageName since that would be referring to the page it's on, not the page for which you're trying to obtain data...
In the function showItemTip, change
itemname = ttLink.getAttribute("href").replace("http://","").replace("hu.","").replace("","").replace("/index.php?title=", "").replace("&action=edit", "").replace("/","").replace(/_/g," ");
itemname = ttLink.getAttribute("href").replace("http://","").replace("","").replace("/wiki", "").replace("/index.php?title=", "").replace("&action=edit", "").replace("/","").replace(/_/g," ");

Zebra tables ready?

I was wondering if the zebra table class was ready for use. I know when you first created a prototype there were some issues with it (I think the stripes vanished when you reloaded the page). The only issue I can see now is that the striping loses its alternation when you re-sort the table. i.e. row colours sort with the row content rather than remaining true to the row number, but perhaps this is intended. Thanks :) --w.woods (talk) 05:24, 25 May 2009 (UTC)

It's ready. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 13:02, 25 May 2009 (UTC)

Zebra table bug

I noted this in the previous topic on zebra tables, but that seems to have been deleted.

There's still, unfortunately, a bug with zebra tables when they're embedded in the Ajax "click to load" code. When embedded in such a way, they lose their stripes (do they become horse tables?)

Good morning sir, We were on the process of getting our guild wiki restored and I noticed that a day haven't gone by since its restoration and it got deleted again. Could you clarify the reasons what you made that choice so we can fix it as soon as you bring our wiki back up? Thanks. (Leo 15:05, 15 June 2009 (UTC))

It does not have required categorization per WW:GUILD. I will restore your page for another day. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 15:07, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
Thank you, I've noticed you made some changes yourself. Now, if there's anything else we need to do into order to further comply to the ruleset do let us know. (Leo 15:24, 15 June 2009 (UTC))

Golem Control Unit

How about you take a look at The end product before you make some final decision.

What, precisely is so sacred about item pages, and particularly quest item pages, that we can't have constructions of this nature?

I realize that you don't get a full-and-accurate item popup, when this construction occurs, but for a quest item is it really that important? --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 22:32, 15 June 2009 (UTC)

You're not the one to receive complaints when popup tooltips don't look exactly as they appear on the page. Also, there already exists a method for multiple tooltips on one page. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 22:35, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
Multiple tooltips... Is there now? Could you show me?
As for "not looking exactly as they appear on the page", it's a bit too late for that, don't ya think? The standard solution is "make a second page". You already know my opinion on that. If you have a method for foxing the right tooltip instance for the right quest page, I'll be on it like white on rice. Otherwise, it'll be some POS disambiguation solution. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 22:43, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
Amusingly enough, my comment for my "final" version of this page included "Now to watch people whine about the tooltip not looking precisely right." --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 22:51, 15 June 2009 (UTC)

Adding quotes.

To Pcj,

Hello, I'm a new contributor to WoWWiki, but I'm very dedicated to keeping order and improving it in any way I can. That's why I've been holding back, editing pages only when I'm sure that I can make a well-done contribution. I've also taken the liberty of adding a quote to the Tirion Fordring page: The speech that Tirion makes in the aftermath of the Battle for Light's Hope Chapel. However, I'm not sure how I can source it, and since this is a new contributor to a more experienced one, I'm hoping you can explain. Any help you can give me will be very much appreciated, as will any comments that you might leave when I write my own user page in the future. One last thing, if there's any problems that anyone has with me, be sure to let me know. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Sir-Nicholas (talkcontr).

You can use the {{Text}} template. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 16:19, 20 June 2009 (UTC)

Deceased characters; also, javascript popups

1) Looks like it just took me to break people out of "there are only two solutions here". Thanks for confirming me on that.

2) I had wikia javascript enabled (Firefox, NoScript). When I moused over the "T" in your signature, I got a popup that listed recent conversations. However, that popup prevented me from actually clicking on the "T" link. Coobra has a T/C sig much like yours, but with only text in it. That seems to place the popup just off the cursor; I could still click on his. Is it just that my computer is "special"? --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 20:45, 25 June 2009 (UTC)

Meh, I was unhappy with the choices (which is why I didn't vote) but don't really care either way. Gourra prodded me to look at it and since I was at it anyway I spelled it out. Also the Venn diagram annoyed me. I'll look at the JS thing. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 20:54, 25 June 2009 (UTC)

Guild Page Edit/Deletion

Thanks for fixing the old stub tag on the Cult of the Zenith (Ravenholdt US) page, PCJ.

And... having just looked over your talk page, did you ever think of just putting a big sign at the top of the page saying "ARE YOU COMING HERE TO ASK WHY I DELETED YOUR GUILD PAGE? YES? CLICK THIS LINK: WW:GUILD"

(Edit: Forgot both title and signature >_>U)

Zenithas (talk) 19:35, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

I always include a reference to WW:GUILD in the deletion reason; people don't click that link, they wouldn't click the link on my page. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 20:14, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

Why "paladin class changes"

I wrote that because, Eyonix pretty much said that in so many words, before he went on to explain the overhaul on holy as well as other significant changes to ret and prot.

Upcoming Paladin changes | 2009-06-18 17:00 | Eyonix
Finally, don’t expect that every class will see this many changes. We are making far fewer changes to class mechanics overall in 3.2, but paladins in particular have some issues we feel are in need of being addressed.

They also highlighted druid skin changes and shaman UI changes, and in the patch notes themselves, death knights were the ones who received "significant talent changes", meriting a talent reset. I do not believe that the paladin changes are any more significant than those of the other classes. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 17:17, 30 June 2009 (UTC)

<Race> (playable)

Since we splited all playable race articles from the main race articles to split Lore and Game mechanics, the Infobox used for all <Race> (playable) don't fit much a basic game description.

I've ended up creating this new template Infobox Playable. It resumes the main points of the playable race in-game (name, race crest, faction, its classes (wow), its two languages, starting zone, racial capital, racial leader, racial mount).

All races are listed here: User:A'noob/Draft.

The goal is to have something completelty (or mostly) splited from Lore.

If you can think of anything else let me know, and tell me if you think I can set it on the playable race articles.

Yeah, there are a bunch of things (mostly involving the table formatting) which don't happen when AJAX is loaded. The current implementation of sortable tables is built-in to the skin code so I am not sure it will run correctly for AJAX tables (e.g., screw up other tables already processed). We could put the transcluded page inside an autocollapsed container (table, div, span), but usually the point is to reduce load time (as on recipe list pages); that method would still load all the content but just hide it. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 21:20, 21 July 2009 (UTC)

Porting tooltips to another wiki

I was wondering if you could explain a little about the tooltips; I'm not incredibly experienced with javascript (I don't know much other than the basics) so some of this is slightly confusing.

I've been trying to port the tooltips function to a blank test wiki and it's not really working. I've loaded the tooltips.js file and copied a few random WoWWiki templates over to test it, but I'm getting no popup. From reading the FAQ on your user talk page I got the impression it was never going to be this straightforward, but I'm willing to learn! ;)

If you could list the things that need to be done that would be great. You don't even have to explain what things are, I'll look it all up; just a basic outline of the things that need doing to get the tooltips working would be fantastic.

Hope you can help! --Mynameiskyori (talk) 10:56, 31 August 2009 (UTC)

Just make sure the tooltip JS is actually being loaded and make sure you have the templates set up right. Make sure it's not giving you any JavaScript errors. "In the mountains" origin?

Why the uncommented deletion? Sorry if I missed the reason for this but I'm quite new here and just wanted to provide an improvement for people looking for an answer to this question. StrangeFabs (talk) 12:57, 31 August 2009 (UTC)

/sigh. if you say it devalues the wiki, I don't say anything against it. But a comment to deletion (simple link to DNP) is good and helps new contributors not that common with every guideline.

StrangeFabs (talk) 13:15, 31 August 2009 (UTC)

Good point. Sadly, not a unique experience, though. Many different deletions/reversions without comments get complained about. Keep folks on their toes; complain when a deletion/reversion has no comment. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 20:02, 31 August 2009 (UTC)

Template Tooltip

You removed my recommendation that the items be added to the different sets categories. You and Gourra both need to go look at the Category:Tier 1 armor sets thru Category:Tier 8 armor sets as a result of this), as well as the Category:Dungeon Set 1 armor sets thru Category:Dungeon Set 3 armor sets, the Arena sets and all of the Class sets to notice how ALL of them have the individual pieces listed inside of the categories, not just the sets (I have added them to the Category:Tier 9 armor sets. So, I am going to revert your REVERTion of my recommendation, because that is how they have ALL been done in the past, unless you plan on going thru them all and undoing them? -- (M o r p hJames E. They need to be categorized differently. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 03:49, 1 September 2009 (UTC)
So do you plan on un-categorizing all of the wrongly categorized items in each and every set? They are not few, but are many: 10 class sets, 9 Tier sets, 6 Arena sets and 3 Dungeon sets. I will not be adding any more set categories to the individual pieces (to keep from increasing the workload) but I am not going back and undoing what has been already wrongly categorized either, that will be for a bot. -- (M o r p hJames E. Watchlist Question

Hi Pcj, sorry for the newbie question but can you tell me what the green/orange numbers mean on my watchlist? --Fallst (talk) 20:32, September 4, 2009 (UTC)

Orange represents the amount of characters removed while green represents the amount of characters added. It's basically used to see if large changes are done to a page, without having to actually visit the page itself. User:Coobra/Sig4 20:38, September 4, 2009 (UTC)

AJAX auto-refresher

I am an admin on the Cyber Nations Wiki, which uses a version of your AJAX auto-refresher for RecentChanges and Watchlist. It very suddenly ceased working on our wiki yesterday, despie the fact it continues to work fine on Wookieepedia and the WoW Wiki. I was just wondering if you had any ideas as to what may have caused it, and whether any patches need to be applied. Thanks! ~ Michael von Preußen (voicemail)

There seem to have been changes made to my original code, you will either need to revert to my original code or consult with whoever made the changes. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 18:38, September 13, 2009 (UTC)
To revert to the original code, should I be using w:User:Kirkburn/global.js, or is there other code? If there is, please link me. Thanks! ~ Michael von Preußen (voicemail)
Yes, Kirkburn's global script will work. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 19:18, September 13, 2009 (UTC)

I don't know, it should work. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 21:56, September 13, 2009 (UTC)
Yes, and the weird part was that it only stopped working all of a sudden. I've come to the conclusion that it's probably some sort of Wikia software change to rpotect Special pages from being subject to such code, but that said change did not affect certain wikis and did affect either. I've left a note with Uberfuzzy to see if he can resolve it. Thank you for your help; I'll be sure to inform you of the solution if I find one. ~ Michael von Preußen (voicemail)
I don't know, the code is loading on the page, it's just not reading the ajaxPages variable, you can see this by typing javascript:preloadAJAXRC(); into your address bar and pressing enter, so it has the code. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 22:08, September 13, 2009 (UTC)

Deletion of Noble Elite Guard guild information

Hello, I'd like to ask why you don't allow some time for us to properly setup our guild page Guild:Noble_Elite_Guard_(Quel'Thalas_EU). Isn't there some wait time allowed so our members can edit it to comply with Policies etc? I am not a wiki-guru and cannot edit the guild page for 100% the moment it's created, but this way you don't even allow a few days for me to shape it up. Not to mention that the history also gets deleted every time the guild page is deleted so it's 1. start over from scratch 2. don't bother with wowwiki? I would expect at least a little tolerance in this matter. Thanks for the explanation.

Sudiin (talk) 14:27, September 16, 2009 (UTC)

See WW:GUILD, recreation of a guild page as a stub does not give you an extra 30 days to comply with policy, and pages can be permitted to be recreated at an admin's discretion. I did give you a couple of hours to let you to shape the page to comply with the policy, plus it was already given 30 days in the first go-round. It doesn't need to be 100%, it just needs to comply with policy. I can restore the page and give you a few minutes to get it to comply, if you have any question on what it needs, let me know. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 14:34, September 16, 2009 (UTC)
If you could provide a quick list of what was missing that'd be good to know, so the next time I have more than a few minutes to work on it I can include those too, eventhough I was under the impression that only the 3 complete sentences were missing to make it comply with Guild-page Policy. I seem to have missed the no-stub rule after re-creation this time around. I intended to write those 3 sentences in the evening, just didn't foresee the super-quick moderation ;) I will strive to include the neccessary info the next time I have ample time to work on the guild page. Sudiin (talk) 14:43, September 16, 2009 (UTC)
Right, you just needed two more sentences. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 14:45, September 16, 2009 (UTC)

My User Page

Hello, A message appeared on my talk page telling me to ask you if I had any problems. I do. If you would check my user page, you would see that there is very little space inbetween my userboxes and my characters. Do you know how to put a space there? Please reply on my talk page or insert the space yourself.

When you have the time, would you examine my hack to get {{Ajax}} to correctly display Grandmaster tailoring patterns on the Tailoring patterns page? Ajax was not respecting <onlyinclude> tags, so I had to work around it. It's ugly, but I would regret even more having to make the Grandmaster tailoring patterns page into a table that can't be categorized and annotated individually. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 22:01, October 1, 2009 (UTC)

Ajax loads and gets the data and the wiki software renders it exactly as you would see it if you pulled it up in your browser. See Template:Ajax#Target page syntax for the normal way to do what you're looking for. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 22:05, October 1, 2009 (UTC)
Target page syntax is inadequate to my needs, in that I want the target page to be a fully useful page in its own right.
... it occurs to me that nearly the same result can be obtained by transcluding a Patterns/Rank "table only" page onto the "Rank Patterns" page. This, though, only transfers "which page you can most easily edit the table from" without evidence that either form is greatly superior for processing.
Suggestions? Am I simply asking too much from Ajax&friends? --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 23:17, October 1, 2009 (UTC)
Just wrap everything you don't want to show up in Ajax in <span class="ajaxHide">. Tada, normal page being pulled into AJAX as you want. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 03:21, October 2, 2009 (UTC)
TYVM. Will put that into action when I get back to the patterns. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 21:21, October 5, 2009 (UTC)

In my tests, I encountered an odd result: On my sandbox page, using <span> generated the expected results. However, in place on the Tailoring patterns page, the first <span> only hid the first paragraph. Examining the source (in firefox) did not clarify things. However, using <div> instead produced the expected results. Will this cause other difficulties that I am currently, blissfully, unaware of, or would it be safe to continue? --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 21:40, October 6, 2009 (UTC)

Your comment, See the section above for the reason it's coded this way, implies I can't read either talkpages or template code; your revert of my edits implies I can't write template code; and your summary statement of not seeing any problems (instead of asking, for example, "I don't understand what problem your edit is supposed to fix, could you please explain?") implies I waste my time doing pointless edits. If you had intended to insult me, you could hardly have done it better. (I'll try to catch you on irc tonight). --◄mendel► 11:37, October 3, 2009 (UTC)

I don't mean to offend, but your edit did break the template (gives patches like 1.1 wrong dates). If you have any other ideas on how to fix it, I'm open to suggestions. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 12:12, October 3, 2009 (UTC)
Ok, I did get confused there because the template code modifies the 1.10 special case when it's the 1.1 that has the problem; it does work, admittedly.
I'd have forced a string comparison instead of a numeric one in every case by appending the patch numbers with only one "." into the format with two, by using
{{#switch: {{{patch|}}}{{#ifexpr:{{#rpos:{{{patch|}}}|.}}<3|.0}}
|1.1.0=it's 1.1
|1.10.0=it's 1.10
But that's not really a big improvement.
I'd much rather refactor and do
{{#if: {{{patch|}}}
   |{{patch {{{patch}}}|bluenote={{{bluenote|}}}|note={{{note|}}}|link={{{link|}}}|comment={{{comment|}}}}}
   |''not a patch, insert code here''}}
and then have Template:Patch 1.10 call up a common template for display, with the correct date. It allows for the 4.0 special case without any kludges, it allows calling the patch version template directly, and as a result of that it avoids affecting 5000+ places whenever a new version is added, because adding a new version then would mean merely adding a small new template that is a slight modification of the last one. It also avoids the long switch statement that can become a performace bottleneck (although it would probably need to become quite a bit larger for that to be noticeable). --◄mendel► 15:52, October 3, 2009 (UTC)

Ed Forum Trolls Deletion?

Shadow of the Moon guild navbox

My guild's navbox was deleted as a violation of the WW:GUILD policy that "A complete list of guild members" is not allowed. Our navbox only contained links to those members that had taken the time to create WoWWiki character pages. I would appreciate the navbox page being restored at your earliest convenience. --Dmleach (talk) 23:28, October 4, 2009 (UTC)

Will do, thanks - and thanks for serving as an admin. --Dmleach (talk) 23:43, October 4, 2009 (UTC)

I find that I disagree with you, Pcj, in this instance, at least to some extent. Clearly, all links in the navbox are links to existing wiki pages (or they wouldn't be links). While there is a general prohibition on "complete list of guild members", I don't see a prohibition on "links to all pages relevant to the guild". I rather thought that the prohibition was intended to prevent long, unmaintained (and difficult to maintain) lists that were not of use to the general public.

An alternative might be a server/guild-space specific category, to which the guild page could link. I'm not clear on how one would set one up, though.

Disclaimer: I haven't seen the guild page, nor any of the individual character pages. Having content on the character pages (which presumably would be under Category:Player characters) created by their respective players would strengthen the case; having stubs created by a single author would weaken it. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 21:32, October 5, 2009 (UTC)

is 100+ patch templates better than one? That is a maintenance nightmare. Please stop and explain why this is better before making hundreds of edits. Just Alerting You Small Howbizr(t·c) 4:41 PM, 6 Oct 2009 (EDT)

I don't see the maintenance nightmare, could you please elaborate? I.e. what kind of maintenance do you envision to needing to be done on old patch note templates? The date and patch numbers aren't likely to change.
I've posted a more thorough discussion than above at Category talk:Patch templates; I invite you to reply there. --◄mendel► 17:09, October 6, 2009 (UTC)
I need to appologize to both of you for getting overly emotional, but I really thought Pcj with his 45k+ edits would know better than to encourage the use of duplicate code in such an overt way, when we've been actively removing similar instances. For example, we use to have {{friendly}}, {{unfriendly}}, etc instead of just {{reputation}}, as well as {{poor}}, {{uncommon}}, {{common}} etc instead of {{quality}}, and many other examples exist.
But to generally answer your question here since you asked, you do it for the changes you haven't thought of so it will be easy in the future. After coding for about 10 years and 2 of those in wiki language (it's not really any different), I really appreciate that kind of forethought.
I'm confident whatever features your templates have can be incorporated into the existing {{patched}} template without the need of and additional 100+ templates, where one would do. Just Alerting You Small Howbizr(t·c) 11:13 PM, 6 Oct 2009 (EDT)
I don't know if you've looked at the source of the new templates themselves, they all reference the template {{Patch}}, meaning the display of the data can be changed very easily and new patches can be added without parsing through a difficult #switch statement. (Also I would like hotfixes to eventually refer to a better-named template, tentatively called Hotfix, and fully deprecate Patched.) --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 23:18, October 6, 2009 (UTC)
There has to be a way to do this without needing an entirely new template for each patch. I'll think on it, maybe play in a sandbox if I have time. My days are pretty full until Saturday this week, though. Just Alerting You Small Howbizr(t·c) 11:25 PM, 6 Oct 2009 (EDT)
The simplicity of the new templates Mendel has created lend themselves well to bot-changes. Which is fortunate, since any overall change would require changing all of those templates uniformly. There is great value in simplicity, but yeah, it does come with that tradeoff. I have to wonder, though, how often Mendel (or whoever else supports the new templates) will sweep the wiki for "direct uses of 'patched'". For a little while, sure. But over the long term? --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 17:46, October 7, 2009 (UTC)
Really, what an odd question. It's the same process of deprecating one template for another we've done so many times before. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 18:10, October 7, 2009 (UTC)
I've been wandering the wilds of the wiki again, finding items from the original content that were still stubs, and categories left unfilled after a year. Maintenance is on my mind. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 21:17, October 7, 2009 (UTC)
I've provided code (see above) for inclusion in Template:patched that would direct old, unconverted calls into the new system, so that modifications done in the new system would carry over to the old template calls automatically, as long as they haven't been converted.
Each new patch template contains only the unique information that associates patch number and date; everything that is similar about them is written into the central template:Patch. Unless you envision renaming parameters or maybe adding new parameters that you want to use for old patch notes, or changing the date format, maintenance is not necessary - I can say that with confidence because there are no other functions (besides parameter passing and supplying patch number, page and date information) that these templates encode. And in any event, these templates can be easily botted, as PCJ has pointed out. --◄mendel► 00:01, October 8, 2009 (UTC)
Templates that are widely used (like {{Tooltip}}, and even your own example for {{Patched}}) get overhauled every now and then. Don't fall into the trap of thinking your version is the be-all, end-all version. Maintenance may not be done for a month, a year, or several years. But based on history, the odds of it being not necessary are vanishingly small. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 00:16, October 8, 2009 (UTC)
Well, the changes made already make it easier to edit. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 00:34, October 8, 2009 (UTC)
Presumably you're talking about either the Patched template, or the patch version templates. And I agree, that mendel's changes simplify both. I haven't put the Patched (version) templates into action yet, so I can't say about usability. I assume you have? How is it? --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 19:31, October 8, 2009 (UTC)
{{Patch 3.3|...}} is easier to type and remember than {{Patched|patch=3.3|...}}, no question about it. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 19:39, October 8, 2009 (UTC)
Really no reason we couldn't have changed {{patched}} to accept {{patched|3.3.0}} if that was the only reason for creating 100+ new templates.
Pcj, I'm just baffled, because you wrote the template engineer's guidelines, and this is so blatantly contrary to "Single templates which can perform multiple similar functions are preferred," which is just a repetition of the best practice to avoid duplicate code. Just Alerting You Small Howbizr(t·c) 5:40 AM, 10 Oct 2009 (EDT)
We also avoid a complex #switch statement and other hackish code by splitting the template up. I would rather have easier to use code than worry about duplicating functionality. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 12:59, October 10, 2009 (UTC)

If it bothers you, you can either wrap the broken link in wikitext with <nowiki></nowiki> or just remove the link brackets altogether depending on the situation. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 18:56, October 25, 2009 (UTC)
Doesn't really bother me, I was thinking from a cleanup standpoint, if there was a policy related to links to deleted pages. Am I understanding that they are just treated the same as any other broken link? Drazisil (talk) 19:03, October 25, 2009 (UTC)
The relevant policy would be the deletion policy, the links should've been cleaned up at time of deletion but since they weren't there's no mandate to go back and do it. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 19:18, October 25, 2009 (UTC)

Removal of page

Dear Pcj,

My name is Jenglejack and I represent the Sacrificial Lambs clique. In fact, i'm the leader of the guild. To make ourselves more know around the regions of wow I decided to make a wowwiki page.

<Forward 3 weeks>

I check the wiki of my website, and discover it's not there anymore. Checked my email, and yes, YOU deleted it. Could you please explain why you did that, and what I can do to prevent it from happening again ?

Kind Regards,

Jenglejack Trollbane(EU)

You need proper categorization per WW:GUILD. Let me know and I will restore it when you're ready. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 12:53, October 31, 2009 (UTC)

Dear PCJ,

I assume you deleted the page because of the member count that was noted in the wikipage ? This has been edited and corrected to a more static line of information. If however, the page is still incorrect, could you inform me about the changes I need to make ? Thanks in advance, and keep up the good work.

Cleaning the wowwiki must be a hell of a job.

Kind regards,

Jenglejack Trollbane(EU)

No, it was because it needed additional categories. Please re-read WW:GUILD before creating it. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 13:04, November 2, 2009 (UTC)

Dear Sir,

I hope it's fine now. Could you please check it out and let me know if you approve.

With love

Good, thank you. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 13:29, November 2, 2009 (UTC)

More tooltip importing

Hi Pcj. Like many others, I'm attempting to import the tooltips to my wiki, but am having no luck. I did a copy/paste for the Tooltips.js and copied the calling line for Common.js as well. I've gone through the Tooltips.js and replaced all instance of "wowwiki" with my site, but still haven't had any luck. I've been using the {{Loot}}, copy/pasted from wowwiki, in an attempt to test it. I've read through the previous comments on your talk page regarding this, but still have not been successful. Any information you can offer to help me get this working would be appreciated! My wiki's site is - Also, I feel I should mention that I have a ShortURL .htaccess file to "clean up" the displayed URLs in my wiki. everything is in the /wiki directory (, but it shortens it to the /w directory ( Thanks in advance - Darklyte (talk) 18:29, October 31, 2009 (UTC)

I spent the rest of yesterday and most of today trying to figure out whats wrong, but I still can't get it to work :( I'd gladly give you admin rights to help get this fleshed out. Thanks again. --Darklyte (talk) 19:25, November 1, 2009 (UTC)
You are missing some functions from MediaWiki:Common.js. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 19:41, November 1, 2009 (UTC)
I wasn't sure what to take from the Common.js, so I just took (and modified) the line that referenced Tooltip.js. I copied the whole thing now, but still no good :( --Darklyte (talk) 19:51, November 1, 2009 (UTC)

Inappropriate name?

Not that I'm very religious, but I guess some would consider "Godslilsatan" to be an inappropriate username. TherasTaneel (talk) 22:30, November 1, 2009 (UTC)

To be fair, Pcj, all you told him was that it was against forum rules; you never specified that you were referring to BLIZZARD's forum rules, so it looked like you were saying it wasn't allowed on the WoWWiki forums, hence his frustration and why I moved it to his userpage. -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 02:42, November 5, 2009 (UTC)
I said "Petitions don't work, and are against the official forum policies." in response to his advertisement about posting a petition on the official forums. I think it was fairly plain. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 02:44, November 5, 2009 (UTC)

Question: Since I have you're attention, I mine aswell ask you a question. It's a pretty dumb one but I'm a pretty dumb person.

Whats the difference between a {{charbox}} and an {{npcbox}}. Howcome some people use an npcbox instead of a charbox for they're characters? Which do you reccomend I use for my character pages? Why? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by TeeSon5 (talkcontr).

Charbox is specialized for characters, as it has slots for character profession, and Realm. Npcbox is intended for non-player characters, for whom realm is unimportant, but who would have a fixed locale. Why would people use npcbox to describe their characters in the game? I really don't know. It isn't well suited to doing so, aside from having a spot for a picture. Maybe they aren't aware of the other template? --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 19:58, November 5, 2009 (UTC)

Pull data through tooltips?

Hey pcj. I'm just wondering, is it possible to pull out a specific piece of information from tooltips? Like, could I specifically pull the dps from [Blade of Savagery], or the cooldown of [Gnomish Death Ray], or the materials of [Pattern: Frozen Shadoweave Robe]? I think that is what that {{{{{{arg|name}}}|--}}} means at the bottom of the {{Tooltip/doc}} means, but I'm not sure. Thanks! Darklyte (talk) 23:06, November 6, 2009 (UTC)

Try {{:Gnomish Death Ray|mode=arg|arg=cooldown}} --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 23:15, November 6, 2009 (UTC)

RE:Azeroth on user pages

No, I'm not guessing. I read the section and if it says something like: "Azeroth and Outland" they should be referring to the planet, or if they say: "the world of Azeroth". Sometimes I cross with the kingdom and continent, like when they said something like: "in Booty Bay in eastern Azeroth" they are referring to the continent or: "Azeroth was destroyed in the First War" then its the kingdom. However the 90% of the links refer to the planet :) Benitoperezgaldos (talk) 20:41, November 13, 2009 (UTC)

AFAIK, Azeroth is never referred to as a continent; Kalimdor and Eastern Kingdoms (and Northrend) are the continents... --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 01:15, November 17, 2009 (UTC)
Sorry, try again. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 01:20, November 17, 2009 (UTC)
To Eirik Ratcatcher: Thats not absolutely true. Eastern Kingdoms, by many a person, is referred to as Azeroth. Azeroth is not just a planet that holds Northrend, Eastern Kingsdoms, and Kalimdor. Azeroth can technically be interchanged with Eastern Kingdoms freely and still be "correct". Also, Stormwind can be called "The Kingdom of Azeroth". Also, the continent of Azeroth is one of three that form the Eastern Kingdoms.

So, not only is there more than 1 meaning for Azeroth, theres actually FOUR! So please read up before commenting ;D TeeSon5 (talk) 01:23, November 17, 2009 (UTC)

Guild: Potato Sack of Tomatoes Drak'tharon

Pardon, but I'm curious as to why this article was deleted. It was a popular article among my friends and realms, and I came on to add more onto it. I'm a bit taken aback why it was randomly deleted after almost a year of its existence. If it's because the guild Potato Sack of Tomatoes has transferred back to Dragonmaw and needed an updated realm tag, that could've been arranged. I'd please like a restoration or at least a way to retrieve all of the work that was put into it, so I can begin a new guild page on the appropriate realm. Or, ideally, if you could restore the page and fix the realm? Please consider all of the time and effort put into that article, and its longevity. I would like to also put one last point in that this article was in no way intended to be a wikisquatting article, as the Potato Sack of Tomatoes guild has transferred among many servers and has a reputable recognition. Thank you. Diagas (talk) 23:52, November 16, 2009 (UTC)

Apologies, but the name of the page is very important. When I check to see if the guild exists in the official Armory and it doesn't I am forced to assume it has disbanded. I will restore it and fix it as you indicated. Thanks for following up on this. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 00:15, November 17, 2009 (UTC)
I see that you have restored it when I go to the page, but it's still not appearing. Is there some sort of process I'm supposed to go through to regain all of the old material for the page to move it to Dragonmaw? Thanks. Diagas (talk) 02:27, November 18, 2009 (UTC)
I already moved it to Dragonmaw. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 02:29, November 18, 2009 (UTC)

Twink Guide Deleted

Hey just wondering why this page was deleted. Kiingy (talk) 23:14, November 17, 2009 (UTC)Kiingy

60 twinks don't exist anymore, the brackets were changed. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 23:17, November 17, 2009 (UTC)
If I may, allow me to elaborate in case theres some confusion. It used to be that you had to be level 51 to go into AV, and the brackets were from [51-60], [61-70], [71-80]. However, it has been changed now that 59, 69, and 79 (with 80s in their own bracket for 80s only) now cap the brackets. So if you were to enter an AV at level 60, you would be pummeled by the level 69s. TeeSon5 (talk) 23:28, November 17, 2009 (UTC)

I know the PvP bracket has been changed but 60 twinking is still very much alive. Kiingy (talk) 05:32, November 18, 2009 (UTC)Kiingy

How? World PvP? --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 23:27, November 19, 2009 (UTC)

World PvP and also PvE.

That guild is a 60 Twink guild and still has new twinks joining all the time. Even if you still think it's pointless, could you at least move it to my talk page or something? Or at the very least bring the page back just for a day so I can copy it.Kiingy (talk) 10:05, November 23, 2009 (UTC)Kiingy

World Drops - Poor and Common? / Also sig question

Can I consider adding two categories:

One for poor world drops (like trash (weapon/armor)drops) and one for common world drops, such as the Level 1-10 common items that drop in lowbie zones?

Doing this would reinforce the item stubs I've removed recently for world drops, ex. [Deflecting Tower]

edit: Also can I get assistance to fixing my signature, it creates way too much code... Thanks, Frostworn1822 (talk·contr·achievements) 02:16, November 18, 2009 (UTC)

What I don't get though is why did you create them when he never told you to specifically, and then specifically clarified himself by telling you not to. P.S. You're sig does create a large amount of code.TeeSon5 (talk) 12:19, November 18, 2009 (UTC)
For right now i'm just going to sign it traditionally until I get a response from someone on the forums. I haven't used this wiki for a long time... edit: Let me know as soon as you can on the fixes on the world drop situation, it was nominated for speedy delete and my description was horrible. I'll work on other world drop items until this situation is revolves. - Frostworn1822
Since we're on the topic of Speedy Delete, while you're checking out those nominations (if you decide to) could you also check out some others that I put in that Category. Theres a few pages that I find redundant such as Guild Bank Alt Guide... I mean seriously? I have a more detailed explanation in my nomination or Deletion. I just wanted to bring those to you're attention.TeeSon5 (talk) 12:19, November 18, 2009 (UTC)

I didn't want to create a new section just for this, but I ended up doing so. You're last archive was archived at 122 posts; and this one has 127 I think. It's quite the "hassle" to scroll down so could I "recommend" you make another archive? Of course I am just bringing this to you're attention, nothing more =D TeeSon5 (talk) 02:33, November 18, 2009 (UTC)

Page tooltips in Category Namespace

Hopefully this is my last question for you, pcj. I notice that the tooltip function works in categories to say if the category has subpages. In my wiki it doesn't work, but that's neither here no there. I'm wondering if it is possible, in conjunction with Categorytree (or not), to have the tooltip function show tooltips of pages from categories? So, for example, if you were in Category:Gnome Engineering and you moused over [Gnomish Death Ray] it would show the tooltip for GDR. Is that something that is possible? Darklyte (talk) 23:11, November 19, 2009 (UTC)

Yes, it is possible. Working with CategoryTree might be stretching it. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 23:14, November 19, 2009 (UTC)

Deletion of guild page The Stonewall Family - Proudmoore-US

Can you please restore the page for -- the guild in question is a Meta-Guild -- comprised of several sub-guilds -- and the individual sub-guild The Stonewall Family does indeed exist in the Armory --- we hold that charter as well.

If you need more information on the meta-guild I can provide it. Thanks!

Workingclassdog (talk) 20:22, November 23, 2009 (UTC)

Guilds are considered to be disbanded or non-operational if there are fewer than ten characters appearing in it on the Armory. I suggest getting more members and then recreating the page for this specific guild, or moving the entire "meta guild" - the term is "group of guilds" on WoWWiki - as a subpage of your server's page, e.g., Server:Proudmoore US/The Stonewall Family. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 22:52, November 23, 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the response - I'll setup the subpage. However - with respect to "group of guilds" that definition doesn't apply to The Stonewall Family or Taint on the horde side -- we are meta-guilds -- a group of sub-guilds with a common guild leader and officers -- created due to the fact that Blizzard caps guild membership at 500 players. So it appears a new definition needs to be added... as there are many meta-guilds in Wow beyond just Proudmoore.

Guild: The First Fleet (Eonar US)

Why did you delete this guild page? The guild has not be disbanded and is currently very active and many members? I do not understand the reason for this Guild page being deleted. Please elaborate. The Guild Box template was used, guidelines on the WW:Guild template were followed and there was only informational text.

Cloak of Frozen Spirits edit

May I ask why the Source information was removed?

Per Tailoring Grandmaster Patterns the cloak is listed at level 395 and checking with the Charles Worth in Dalaran it was listed for 8Gold.

I am attempting to learn coding as fast as possible, however, many administrative edits lack documentation in order to improve the articles instead of simple deletion.

You wrote Glacial Robe instead of Cloak of Frozen Spirits, I thought it was an accidental copy and paste. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 03:09, November 29, 2009 (UTC)
I was working on both and certainly must have copied pasted like you thought. Thank you for catching that. Ariule (talk) 03:11, November 29, 2009 (UTC)

Curious to know what deleted Guild Page said...

I did a Google search for my name and guild and to my surprise i found a page on WoWwilki. But was sad to see that it had been deleted a few days earlier. I am curious to know what the page said, Especialy about me. I cant see any reason for the deletion and all the log says was... "23:21, September 25, 2009 Pcj (Talk | contribs) deleted "Guild:Cult of Nerox (Lightninghoof US)" ‎ (Guild stub article: content was: '{{Guild}} {{Stub/Guild}} The Cult of Nerox is a prominent Horde role-play (RP) guild on Lightninghoof RP/PvP server. It is a heavy RP, light PvE and medium PvP guild. Although it is labeled as a heavy RP)"

In the google search i can see "Guild:Cult of Nerox (Lightninghoof US) - WoWWiki - Your guide to ... In early 2008, the Tauren Druid Direbear joined the Cult. In March 2008 Direbear began to sponsor the guild website, and he quickly became an active and ..." ... and... and what? Id love to know what this page said even if its not restored. Perhaps you could email me the contents? Was there something wrong with the pages content or just its format?

I like to know what was written about me. (yer im that Tauren Druid the page refers to.)

Thanks! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Cuddlekat (talkcontr).

influential guild officer. A passionate and dependable guild member, Direbear took it upon himself to promote and organize RP events, recruit, and maintain the guild website.
In January 2009, Direbear was promoted to guild leader and Kelthuzadia took a break from the game. Since then, Direbear has continued to promote RP and push for in-game progression. Kelthuzadia still assists Direbear in being a guild website administrator and keeps an active forum presence.

Recent revert

Hi, Pcj. May I ask why was my edit in WoWWiki:Policy/Writing/Lore reverted?, that section really needs cleanup as the information in there is not accurate. Benitoperezgaldos (talk) 05:19, December 1, 2009 (UTC)

There is a process for large changes to policy which you did not follow. Please propose the changes before making changes to policy. Thank you. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 13:32, December 1, 2009 (UTC)

Stormreaver US

Could you restore everything you just took off of Stormreaver_US wiki page? It was an unnecessary removal of a lot of material and I don't want to have to go through the trouble to fix it. Thanks.

No, it violates policy. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 19:51, December 1, 2009 (UTC)

How? It's been up for a year or two. Stop hurting Stormreaver.

WW:NPOV. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 00:54, December 2, 2009 (UTC)

Which is being handled. This is the 3rd time you've disrupted the page. I've fixed that NPOV every time without having large chunks of the page taken out.

Way to just contradict yourself. It has not been up for a year or two. Lists of subjectively famous people on a realm are against WW:NPOV. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 01:00, December 2, 2009 (UTC)

Pcj: given your reprimand to Benitoperezgaldos here, I find your unilateral decree on 'famous people on servers' jarring. In particular, your WW:NPOV objection invites the question "What objective qualifiers are acceptable?" A qualifier of "on/about this date" seems a good first step. Would you also ask for some form of poll or other statistical measure? Nomination (ala WW:CRAZY) seems entirely unworkable, we have a hard enough time with ANY vote, let alone one that specific. Given that, one must fall back on the experience of someone who is there, and perhaps let a "no he isn't famous" argument develop. Assuming enough people actually care...

Would you care to describe those qualifiers (outside of world/realm-first) that would qualify such a list? --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 01:51, December 3, 2009 (UTC)

I would say bearers of legendary items, Ahn'Qiraj gate openers, Blizzard-recognized players, and similar achievements would be properly meritorious. In any case, lists of famous trolls are right out. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 01:55, December 3, 2009 (UTC)
I'd exercise caution with "bearers of legendary items"... the items suffer some amount of 'desirability' deterioration over time. And I don't think the temporary items from The Eye would count.... --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 00:49, December 5, 2009 (UTC)
It's still an accomplishment which is objectively recognizable. And no, The Eye weapons would not count. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 01:14, December 5, 2009 (UTC)
I agree with what you have to say PCJ, a player like Oxhorn is a noteworthy player, while I would not fall under that category. Trolls in PARTICULAR should never be considered noteworthy, because it takes no skill to be a troll, in addition trolls provide no positive reinforcement for a server. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Oakpack4 (talkcontr).

Main Page Advice

Hi, wasn't sure who to contact. I'm from Redwall, and I recently re-designed my main page. I've found your main page and mine both make use of the 2-column style, however my main page is acting wonky on different screen resolutions or if the window is resized; the boxes have spacing issues. I was looking for some advice on how to fix this. And while I'm here, I just noticed your nifty tooltips. How do those work? -- LordTBT Talk! 20:05, December 8, 2009 (UTC)

You probably need to mess with some CSS width/max-width settings to get the look you want. If that doesn't help I'll take a look this weekend. Tooltips are created using JS (MediaWiki:Tooltips.js). If you want to use it on your wiki you probably want to copy/mess around with User:Pcj/simple.js instead. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 04:51, December 9, 2009 (UTC)
I'm honestly not sure what needs the tweaking. If you'd take a look, I'd really appreciate it. -- LordTBT Talk! 07:33, December 13, 2009 (UTC)
OK, made some adjustments, let me know if that works. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 20:46, December 19, 2009 (UTC)
The adjustments work in that there is no longer a big ugly white space, however if the window is resized, some boxes still crash into each other, additionally I can't seem to adjust the box widths (previously they were all the same width, now they are different) -- LordTBT Talk! 01:15, December 20, 2009 (UTC)
They should not crash into each other anymore. I would recommend not specifying width in pixels. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 03:04, December 20, 2009 (UTC)
Not crashing any more, however some other problems have arisen. The spacing between the Greeting and News boxes should be the same spacing for all the boxes. Also, the spacing between the Greeting and Facebook box should be the same all the way down too. -- LordTBT Talk! 03:27, December 20, 2009 (UTC)
OK, that should do it. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 04:03, December 20, 2009 (UTC)
Almost there! (I appreciate your time and help!) The New Fan Fiction box is a bit too far to the right, and there's a little too much space in between it and the Images box. -- LordTBT Talk! 04:20, December 20, 2009 (UTC)
OK. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 04:34, December 20, 2009 (UTC)

World Of Warcraft

Hello I'm Station7 and I have a few questions. It looks like you're the admnistrator of this site. Is World Of Warcraft a free game? How worked that with the things under your user page? Could you have more accounts (WOW), I mean? Do you have to pay for that game? I'm from The Netherlands2009. If you make an account from WOW, will that picture then being on the site?--Station7 (talk) 20:23, December 11, 2009 (UTC)

You have to pay to play WoW. WoWWiki is not associated with Blizzard and accounts on WoWWiki are separate from WoW accounts. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 20:32, December 11, 2009 (UTC)

Stub comment removal

Hello, at what point would it be appropriate to remove the stub comment from a new wiki page that I have been editing? I've seen pages with little content not being a stub, and pages with decent content still labelled as a stub. I just want to make sure as I plan to build out those pages listed as stubs. Thanks! --Multiboxing (talk) 04:51, December 14, 2009 (UTC)

There is usually a boilerplate depending on the type of article, if it meets the boilerplate or if there is nothing relevant missing from the article, it can be removed. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 05:00, December 14, 2009 (UTC)

New message

On each page I get the message that there are changes to my talk page. But I cannot get rid of them, because it appears to be changes that I made myself to my talk page. How can I get rid of them (unless the messages are really new)? Hans Kamp (talk) 06:56, December 21, 2009 (UTC)

I am not sure what would be causing that. You can hide the notification with some CSS, but the only way to really get rid of it is by visiting your talk page, but apparently you're doing that. Try logging out and back in? I don't know. --13:25, December 22, 2009 (UTC)
Logging out and in doesn't help. May this also be caused by Firefox 3.5.6, which I use as web browser? Hans Kamp (talk) 17:02, December 22, 2009 (UTC)
Apparently it is solved now. Thanks (in case you have done something which actually solves the problem). :) Hans Kamp (talk) 17:36, December 24, 2009 (UTC)

Guild Deletion

I checked on our guild page this morning ( ) to see that you have deleted it due to disbanding. This is not the case and I believe that if you had researched it you may have searched for 'The Earth Walkers' whereas our name is 'Earth Walkers' in-game. A mistake on our part to have titled the page in this way and one that will be rectified once the page is restored. This could have been avoided, however, by a little more research on your part; a check of our website (the link to which was on the wiki page) would have shown you that we are quite active!

As a bit of a wiki noob, how would I go about restoring our page? I do have a backup copy with the relevant markup but I don't think it was as up-to-date as the page itself.

Porting Tooltips

Hi there. First, thanks so much for allowing people to use the scripts you've developed for displaying tooltips on external wikis. It sure beats trying to reinvent the wheel!

I've sort of got this functionality working on my new wiki, but I'm a bit lost at this point. I've checked through User:Pcj and the previous messages here on your talk page, as well as numerous other Template pages here on WoWWiki, but it's really difficult to find the installation/set up information I need to get this working, particularly in a sequential order.

This is the page I'm using currently to test this functionality on my wiki. As you can see there, it's generating the hovers for the tooltips, but it's not actually finding the item data to display and I'm not sure why that is. (I do understand that here on WoWWiki, the script looks for the local page for the item and generates the tooltip from there, but I'm not sure how to convert that to just finding the tooltip data from an external database.) I had thought it might be a matter of editing the js files to specify which database it should be checking for items on and I tried tinkering with that a bit but no dice. I'm sure I must be missing something extremely obvious here, but I can't for the life of me think what that might be.

Any help you could provide would be extremely helpful. (And yes, I'd be more than happy to grant you admin access to my wiki in order to accomplish whatever needs doing.)

Thanks so much! IconSmall Vereesa Lassirra 10:57, December 22, 2009 (UTC)

Are you trying to pull tooltip data from WoWWiki or another source? To pull the tooltip data from WoWWiki, you would have to change the URL in function getInfo. However, it will probably give you XSS (cross-site scripting) errors and not work. I will have to think how to implement it as it would probably require some JS at WoWWiki to work. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 13:37, December 22, 2009 (UTC)
Ideally, I'd like to pull tooltip data directly from WoWHead (just as you would on a blog, for example). Maybe I'm going about it the wrong way? I understand WoWHead has their "powered by" section with their script, but I'm very new to wiki management so I wasn't sure how to implement their script on a wiki. Checking around for getting tooltip displays on wikis was how I came across your script, so I assumed (perhaps incorrectly?) that it was what I needed. Pulling tooltip data from WoWWiki would also work. I'm just not sure which is easiest/most efficient. I apologize for my ignorance, and appreciate your help very much. IconSmall Vereesa Lassirra 20:51, December 22, 2009 (UTC)
Sure, give me admin access there and I'll be glad to set it up. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 20:59, December 22, 2009 (UTC)

Dungeon finder breakdown

I had made it a separate page for two reasons: First, it had the potential to be quite large. Separation allowed the pages to be smaller. Second, it separated table edits from text edits. The breakdown page was likely to (and did) have a large number of updates. That isolated the table history, which seemed somewhat worthwhile to me. ... and I could not predict whether there would be an application for components of the breakdown page to find their way to other pages.

History lost, if it mattered in the first place. Done, now, though. I'll live. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 19:21, January 22, 2010 (UTC)

Lock a Guild Page

Not really, that would be too much over-management (wikis are supposed to be free to edit). However I can lock it down against newly-created users and get onto whoever is giving you trouble. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 19:34, January 29, 2010 (UTC)

Please define "openly accessible," and tell me when releasing datamined information was "fine." -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 18:38, February 2, 2010 (UTC)
The video is stored in normal AVI format in a subdirectory of the Data directory in your WoW folder. Released, announced content is fine to datamine per WW:DNP. However, datamining stuff not seen in-game often leads to speculation which is against DNP. Since the cinematic explains itself and is released (and was actually even announced prior to the patch) it is fine. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 19:29, February 2, 2010 (UTC)
Ah, I thought it was embedded in the MPQ files. If it WERE embedded in the files rather than sitting in the cinematics folder, however, wouldn't that still be considered datamining until someone beat the Lich King? As I recall, similar details about Kil'jaeden (and the legendary bow specifically) were suppressed until it was actually encountered on live servers. -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 19:36, February 2, 2010 (UTC)
Item drops and boss spells are largely speculation until we see the boss in action. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 19:46, February 2, 2010 (UTC)

Legends of TKD

Can you please stop deleting everything I write on the Legends of TKD page because I am in the guild. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Holto (talkcontr).

Please make sure your page complies with WW:GUILD. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 13:57, February 6, 2010 (UTC)

my user page

hey dude, Im trying to change my user page to a actual article as an idea, and change my user page to something else, what can I do?

Uh, you want User:Vampyrelord1300/Shadow Ranger to be your actual article? Looks fine to keep it the way it is, not sure what you're wanting. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 05:39, February 25, 2010 (UTC)
Yea, it was meant for an idea article

Tooltip Export

Ive seen what you've done on and love its application into the world of Aion, Sadly that wiki has fallen into disrepair and im rebuilding a similar wiki at Are you able to contact me about exporting a similar tooltip interface to my MediaWiki site? you can find contact me at mithaol22(at0gmail(dot)(com), I can give you administrator access, ask what you need in return and i would be extremely grateful.

Thanks —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Mithaol (talkcontr).

Opinion needed, please

Hi, I wanted your input on a matter: should I start a Deletion process on Category:Templates that should have been local? I'm currently traversing the category system to get to know the site and see where can I help, and that category seems pretty unnecessary: It's empty, and the last discussion about it is 2-3 years old. However, as I'm pretty new around here (I have a little bit of experience with Mediawiki and Wikipedia's systems, but each site has its own rules) I don't know if a deletion process is in order. Could you point me to the right thing to do? Thank you in advance. PS: I selected you to ask because you were somehow involved in the voting. Scarbrowtalk 18:24, March 3, 2010 (UTC)

Apparently, there are still forces that view the category as useful. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 22:07, March 3, 2010 (UTC)
Fixed. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 00:26, March 4, 2010 (UTC)

Forum:Gem type categories

Were the references to the various categories causing problems? If it was a matter of categories that are now dead-and-gone being redlinks, I think that instead of nowiki'ing them, un-linkifying them might have been a better option, given what nowiki did to page layout. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 19:23, March 10, 2010 (UTC)

The more I look at the page, though, the more that your nowiki tags don't make any sense. I'm not even sure they'd make the difference between "this page links to that dead category" and not. Lots and lots and lots of links in the comments. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 19:26, March 10, 2010 (UTC)

Thank You

Thanks for the welcome, Pcj! A couple years late, but definitely better late than never. :) I don't really contribute anymore since my best contribution was shot down for being baseless speculation despite me putting the speculation header AND I put the source of said speculation. Which is more than I can say for other wildly baseless speculation around here. Now I just lurk. Feel free to delete this, of course. I just wanted to say that I acknowledge and appreciate your welcome. -- Uncle Troll (talk) 15:48, March 11, 2010 (UTC)

You undid my Sauron and Yogg-Saron connection

Well, do you have the power to create visions? I don't think so. They are both two powerful beings that can create visions in some way and sharing almost the exact same name. They could've made Yogg-Saron good at ANYTHING BUT VISIONS... And it's rather annoying when people like you come and delete my editions! It's not like I just feel like jabbering. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Merala (talkcontr).

Giving people visions is not the same as having a giant eye... --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 16:38, March 13, 2010 (UTC)
I am not talking about the film, my dear. I have read the books, in the books Tolkien hardly mentions a red giant eye. I know what I am talking about. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Merala (talkcontr).
*facepalm* See wikipedia:Sauron#Eye of Sauron. You are now blocked for violation of WW:3RR, try to be less belligerent when you return. --PcjWoWWiki admin (TDrop me a line!C58,967 contributions and counting) 16:55, March 13, 2010 (UTC)
