For the timbermaw patches, I think I am violating both conventions: the 3.0.2 boost was undocumented (thus comment, not note); and the 2.2.0 boost was actual text (which I paraphrased). If you are interested, please feel free to correct me. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 21:27, 11 August 2009 (UTC)
Perhaps we need to clarify the doc, but I don't see why there's any reason that unofficial stuff can't be put in the {{patched}} template - I do that all the time and it seems appropriate. Obviously, if official notes are available, use those instead. I would (personally) use comment for stuff like this:
WoW Icon 16x16 Patch 3.0.2 (2008-10-14): [Curious Wolvar Pup] added.

Sorry, afflicted with Meh. When you have 'note' or 'comment', the difference is whether what is listed is italicized or not. It is only when you have both in use that there is what I would consider a significant difference in display. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 18:15, 12 August 2009 (UTC)

Re: New gems footer

Here's is my feedback, based on looking at your version as well as {{gems}} and {{minerals}}. Just Alerting You Small Howbizr(t·c) 9:35 PM, 21 Aug 2009 (EDT)

Eirik: What is the difference between the "Cuttable Gems" and "Raw Gems" footer tables? I can't see a difference. Also, feel free to include pearls in all footers besides the just "Minerals" one.
Howbizr: I like your layout and ideas, but I don't like how you are using the title "Gems" for all your tables.
--Gengar orange 22x22Beware the sneaky smile! Fandyllic (talk · contr) 9:10 PM PST 21 Aug 2009
Fandyllic: The intent was that the "not from mining" gems (pearls, epic gems) would be present only for the "cuttable" gems footer. My sandbox template was not functioning. Working on it, though.
Howbizr: I'll put more comments on your gems page; my comments here were beginning to spin out of control.--Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 20:17, 24 August 2009 (UTC)

Stub PTR

{{Stub/PTR|<3.2.0>}} is over and, per the wording of the stub, needed to be changed to what they were when the PTR ended: Items, Achievements, Mobs, NPC's, etc. - I did not remove any that were {{Stub/PTR|<3.2.2>}}. I checked to make sure they were in game before I removed them. And all of my changes are ALL in a roughly 2- 3 hour span last night and are clearly labeled "Removed {{Stub/PTR}}". -- I am just following the guidelines set up by wowwiki, get mad at them, not me. I feel the same away about auto categorizations - it is a DISSERVICE to the people that use categories to find things (that are not categorized - the tooltip will fix that because everything will become categorized properly not by a few categories you decide/remember to place, and a few categories I decide/remember, etc. This is the nature of a Wiki (as I was told ) -- (M o r p hJames E. Heh, um yeah, otherwise, I would not have changed them all - Again! I was just following the guidelines laid out by WoWWiki on the stub usage. As I mentioned before - I was just stating what others have told me ( when I felt things were not done correctly, and used examples as well ) there was no ill-will towards what you said to me about changing them to {{Stub/Item}} or any of the other stubs, I tend to agree in that they will get lost in the other 7,051 items that are already using the {{Stub/Item}} alone as of this posting. -- (M o r p hJames E. The be BOLD is a useless policy here on wowwiki when you have admins that just UNDO what you do and do NOT give any explanation as to why - that is a major deterent, they should be BRAVE enough to explain why they reverted anything, and I am not just refering to Gourra, there are other, ACTIVE, admins, that do this as well. -- (M o r p hJames E. Gladiator Set rename's

This is not about Moving pages (Renames) so redirects are not involved. This is about category paramaters used to group (alphabetize) articles in the category pages. Click on Category:World of Warcraft armor item sets to see the Dungeon sets, Tier # sets and Arena season sets ( before the A's ). I put them in Season# order, he was putting them in Name order (no way of knowing which is the newest set unless you just know the seasons). -- (M o r p hJames E. Rooks, Jr. aka: Morph

I do not see (eg) Deadly Gladiator's Battlegear under 'WoW armor item sets'. I don't even see the more generic "Deadly Gladiator armor sets" under that category. At this point, I'm not even sure if you're talking about categories or pages... --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 20:34, 31 August 2009 (UTC)
Yeah I was talking about Article pages listed in the category (as I said we were never talking about sub-cateories this is about Category parameters used to group articles in the category pages). - They are listed in Season order within the Category (as the Tier and Dungeon pages are) vs in Alpha order, without the category parameter that is used to alphabetize articles inside of the categories.
Gladiator set is Season 1, Merciless Gladiator set is Season 2, Vengeful Gladiator set is Season 3, Brutal Gladiator set is Season 4, then Season 5 Gladiator set is made up of (Savage – Hateful – Deadly Gladiator sets), Season 6 Gladiator set is the Furious Gladiator set, Season 7 Gladiator set is the Relentless Gladiator set. (I did not name them or change the order of how they are named - I just grouped them so that they are in Season order) -- (M o r p hJames E. Rooks, Jr. aka: Morph

  1. Go to Merciless Gladiator set

I had noted the date/time those accounts first edited. It was abundantly clear that they were new accounts, given that their first edits were for that one forum. In some ways, it has been useful for me to *not* be an admin. I was able to provide some assistance to Rolandius when admins had tried and failed. And... I think Gourra and I are fairly incompatable. We agree to disagree, but I'd rather not be in "an even bargaining position". It's easier to break deadlocks this way. If folks really want me to be an admin, I'll put in a slip. Account security awareness

Do you still think that Account security awareness should be merged with Security Guide or Basic account security? I can restore it, but I do not know what to do with it. It turns out that {{Terminate}} is the same thing as {{Sd}}, not "the vote is over, I will delete it eventually".--SWM2448 02:45, October 4, 2009 (UTC)

Merging those articles is one of those "I should do this" sort of tasks; I was procrastinating. I still think that Basic account security needs rewritten, and perhaps merged with Security Guide (or at least crosslinked). Whatever was not duplicated in Account security awareness would go into that merge, but I don't really know how much that would be. Shop Smart

Regarding the Oracle egg on my essay, I suppose I meant that from when you buy it to when it becomes a cracked egg, it takes a full week's length of time between phases. Yes you are correct that once you have the "cracked" egg it can be opened right away. Though my reference was to the fact that once you buy the mysterious egg from the oracles you have to wait 1 week for it to turn into a cracked egg.

And thank you for pointing out my mistake on the reputation status on the egg, I will go back and change that to reflect it.

My article is written from the point of view that it will only show you what you can currently get in game in order to get your pet achievement. I do not list any pets you can no longer get, and I keep it updated to that purpose. I do list all the pets you can currently get because you can collect them with no order, many of them are available right away through vendors or auction houses.

However, as it is listed in shop smart, I do not list pets like lets say Stinky, who is a reward from the 50 pet achievement, therefore, you cannot use him for your 50 pet achievement, and my essay takes that into consideration.

Please let me know if there are others things I can improve on it.

Chef de Parti

Hi Erik,

I don't know who else to go to about this, seems you have a lot more knowledge then me here. I was trying to put some stuff in for the Achievement "Chef de Partie", but it was listed as red because there was no page for it yet. I tried adding it, but it wasn't coming out right so I deleted what I had put in. Now when I go to the Cooking Achievement list I don't even see it as an option without a page @.@ Please help >< I didn't mean to take it out of the list. It's supposed to be achievement number 1797 I believe.

Thank you Eirik for looking into the Chef de Partie issue for me, I thought I totally broke it. Ya it seemed the other achievements below it also didn't have pages so I guess it wasn't entirely me, glad to see you have added the content though, thank you. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Thalía (talkcontr).

Just checked your info on having to be logged in to reach the other tiered recipe list guides. That's odd though because I logged out and hit the links and it went to them fine. I am not sure what's going on. The only reason I have a log in function on the site is to post of the forums. Mind trying again?

Nope. cooking shows me Lunch Lady, not Sous Chef. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 20:52, November 4, 2009 (UTC)

Oh that's because you are going directly to the site, Lunch Lady is the first step of that cooking achievement, and that is what you will see because that is the default until you set your character. Where you are navigating is the section you look through once you set your character, and it automatically populates according to your character's achievements, data is pulled from the armory. If you don't have a character to set, you will see the default starting achievements, not the next step up, Sous Chef I believe is the 3rd or 4th step in that achievement chain. If you had a character that was on that step, you would see it through that navigation. Though if you want to find all guides, regardless of achievement ranking, go to the "Guides" tab at the top of the Nav bar, and you can search for them there.

Again, the side tab Navigation is on default until you set your character, and will only show you you're characters completed achievements or the ones you are working on. Though the links I put down on the cooking pages here on Wowwiki take you straight to the guides, at least I tried it again from a different comp and they did.

Again, I'm thinking that you'd do better to have a single "cooking guide" instead of a different page for each achievement rank. (Think I may have mentioned this before...) Perhaps with sections specific to "easy/medium/hard to get" since the achievement in this case isn't tied to cooking rank. But it's your site, your preferences. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 21:12, November 4, 2009 (UTC)

Ya I understand what you are saying, but we did it in the way that if you set your character and you see that achievement is almost done or you are working on it on you side Nav Tab, you can click it and it will direct you to the guide for it. Same for the suggested tab, so all guides have to have different names to fit the organization tabs and particular achievement name to link up to each persons individual progression, or else yes I would have done one big general one.

More simply put, the article name (guide) has to match up with the achievement name (on the side nav) in order for them to link up once clicked.

Yup, yup. Would be nice if your database programming recognized 'redirects'... but that's beyond my pay grade. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 21:20, November 4, 2009 (UTC)

I see what you are saying and I agree with you. posting info of the petition on wowiki was simply a way to spread the word of it further my former base of spreading the petition was you tube on which hasent worked out too nicely. seeing as how there are more open minded people on the wiki i figured the petition would spread quicker and I would be able to reach my goal faster. I couldnt stay on one site forever so this was my first idea and I see how adminship could have been alittle too out of the line but after previous petition conflicts I watned to be able to watch the page as close as possible for any vandilism there were quite alote of people opposing the plague in the first place and I was just trying to be helpful to me and my supporters. signed Biscuit 12

Was hoping you could drop me a line on how to do my signature how you suggested?

Gryphon mounts

What exactly are you looking for in a Screenshot for a Gryphon Mount? What do you mean by loaner mount? Could you please explain what exactly you want so I can go out and get a better Screenshot for you?

You're reasoning says this: want image of loaner mount. What exists is an item icon image, not a mount image.

I don't completley understand what you mean. Just a little clerification thats all I request and I'll go get a new one for you.

RE: category order is important?

I believe this is done similar to why the space is removed between the last line and the categories... something to do with the way the categories are done now with the "easier" to do category system. User:Coobra/Sig4 22:47, November 6, 2009 (UTC)

I see what you mean, but in my defense, a guide that only goes up to level 300 is redundant, therefore; using it as a "temporary" holder while the new one is sharped, seems... well, redundant. Two Noticements

Hey, first of all- Congratulations on the 10,000 Club! I updated you're Userpage after just a quick glance and noticed you forgot to update it yourself. I hope you're okay with that change.

The second thing I wanted to ask is about all the separate pages you're making for each individual item in Finklestein's Laboratory. I've done the quest before, and I remember a few things from it; firstly and foremost that it was very annoying. But, most of those are "shelf items"... errr... what do I mean?

I'm not sure if theres a word for this, but I believe that Shelf Items aren't really items, just looks. And yes, while they become items (for 30 seconds) ... isn't it rather (get ready for this, my favorite word) ... redundant?

I don't see the harm in just individual pictures on the one main quests page and then a big picture of the entire shelf showing where they are. I am just a little confused thats all, so if you could explain it to me that would rock =D

Don't confuse this with a rant plz ;D TeeSon5 (talk) 00:03, November 18, 2009 (UTC)

They're actual "container items". I created Finklestein's Laboratory as a page to provide both the gallery and the "notes" that were common to those two quests. I agree, it's petty, but ... they're *still* container objects. ... and inventory items. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 05:04, November 18, 2009 (UTC)
Alright, if you feel it's necessary I won't stand in you're way. I'll just say, if it were me creating a page for this quest; I would just page one page with all the "container items" on one page. TeeSon5 (talk) 12:17, November 18, 2009 (UTC)
What would you do about the items, each with an inventory icon and flavor text? --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 17:50, November 18, 2009 (UTC)
Honestly, I'm not sure. Like I said; it's not that I have a problem with what you're doing... it just seems... odd. But, who am I, a lowly new guy to WoWWiki, to argue with somebody with more experience with me. TeeSon5 (talk) 23:54, November 18, 2009 (UTC)
An editor, is who. Question Authority. Don't be afraid to ask why something is done one way and not another, or to ask for something to be done differently. You may have thought of something we old fogies haven't. We aren't infallible. Forums are good, if you want to hash something out before making a change. And if you really feel strongly, call for a vote. Sometimes people do pay attention to them. Smiley --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 00:00, November 19, 2009 (UTC)

Since You're Already There

Since you're already going to all those Mask pages added Images (even though this should have been done by the creators of the pages)... just to save me the time of chasing back and re-editing what you've been doing (great job BTW) -- could I just request you add a new 2 point Section called "Criteria of (2)" and add the following under:

to the pages you're editing.

You don't have to if you don't want. If you feel this change is redundant, let me know so I can undo the ones I've already "fixed". TeeSon5 (talk) 00:52, November 19, 2009 (UTC)

How do you archive your talk page? BobNamataki (talk) 19:31, November 19, 2009 (UTC)

Create a suitably named sub-page, and cut-and-paste from the main talk page. Add links as you see fit. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 19:34, November 19, 2009 (UTC)

RE:Disenchanting info

Those counts are from Wowhead, which records the amount of times a mob is looted, item DE'd, etc. Also, I feel Disenchanting mats are very interesting =D. Especially since I have an enchanting alt I would love to see what sometime turns into. However, like I mentioned in the past; you're more experienced than I, so if you feel it is redundant, feel free to remove it. TeeSon5 (talk) 21:03, November 19, 2009 (UTC)

Not ... redundant, entirely. Just not anything I have interest in. I find items, either I DE them or I don't. Crafted items I get an idea which items DE into things I want; other items I can't plan to acquire solely for DEing. Thus, on Random Item Q, what it DEs into is almost irrelevant to my decision whether to DE it or not.
As I said, knock yourself out. ... er, if it pleases you to add that information, feel free. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 22:40, November 19, 2009 (UTC)

RE:WoW prefixes

Unless I understood you're vote wrong: You want to change Category names. I disagree; so I voted no. TeeSon5 (talk) 21:03, November 19, 2009 (UTC)

Please refer back to the vote page. "Yes" is a vote to retain the current standard - every subordinate category should also be prefixed "World of Warcraft". "No" is the change - categories below a given category need not be prefixed. My "Some" vote would allow prefixes to be left off if people would not be confused about which Warcraft property the subcategory itself referred to. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 22:44, November 19, 2009 (UTC)

Warrior sets

I'm just trying to follow what you intend to do:

Eruantien (talk) 18:44, December 25, 2009 (UTC)

1st question: Okay, I see. So ideally, that change would be applied to all sets, then (not just warriors).
2nd question: I don't really see the idea behind that. I mean the sets still are Category:World of Warcraft armor item sets (thus I think they should be in this category), and they were in the Category:Warrior sets already.
Plus the set pages themselves mention that several set versions contribute to set boni.

Eruantien (talk) 18:40, December 30, 2009 (UTC)

The sets, sure, can be in Category:World of Warcraft armor item sets. However, the individual pieces that make up the sets should not be, or we have a category that is essentially overwhelmed by trivia. And you note that said category already has over 700 different sets listed in it.
Category:Warrior armor sets, then, is the subset of "armor item sets" intended for warriors. Following the above category, individual armor pieces shouldn't be in it. ... but they were.
So I created Category:Warrior armor set items to put those items in. And having found that the armor sets themselves allowed some level of mixing and matching, categories for "anything that works for this set bonus" seemed appropriate.
If you would suggest some different scheme, please do so now, while the cost to change is comparably low.
On sets, though... When only one collection of items made up a set, having a description of what a complete set of that type gave you for stats made sense. However, we've got sets for which large numbers of items qualify. The stats-for-set don't make sense, as people are unlikely to collect only one level of that set's pieces. A more likely scenario is that people will collect base elements, but get a sprinkling of upgrades. A list of what the stats for the set are make less and less sense to me. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 00:37, January 5, 2010 (UTC)

i went on to your page and i sawlittle icans of orcs ans mage simbols how do you make those —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Mr.Mr.T (talkcontr).

I'm not sure which orc and mage symbols you are talking about honestly.
You can place arbitrary images on a page by using something like [[image:ImageNameAndExtension|some name|thumb]]. For instance:
Some templates place race/class images: {{RaceIcon|Orc|Male}}{{ClassIcon|Mage}}

tier 7

I maintain that it's a template because 1) It's to be used on many pages and 2) It has no substantial content of its own. In most cases, what WoWWiki calls a transcludable page would usually be (in the rest of the wiki world) a template. "Transcluded pages" are ones I've long tried to clean up; sort out the article content from the non-article content and then move the non-content to the template namespace. :/ --Sky (t · c · w) 22:37, January 14, 2010 (UTC)

I would have to disagree with (1) in that I don't think the range of pages is that broad. For that particular page, I could agree with (2), but would disagree re Tier 10.264 source. I can't say that I'm content with your distinction of "qualifies as Template" vs "qualifies as transclude", given that info boxes (eg tooltip) contain substantial information (because we have zillions of parameters) despite being essentially entirely programmatically created. Compare as well to article management templates, whose purpose is largely to insert stock text into an article, but have few or no parameters. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 22:55, January 14, 2010 (UTC)
The lot of them I see as being templates, and it comes back to point 1. If we're going to use a particular page more than once in any one case, the default should be a template, because that's what a template is by definition.
I'll agree with your point in number 2, however in that templates can vary in complexity, but what really then defines a template then, I'd venture, would be the data that can be found in one. Consider that "Tier 10.264 source" isn't an article... it's a bunch of data that are meaningless without the pages that the template should be on. Really, I'm just fussy about the true article count, and that's why I'd like to see more of those quest line pages you make (have made) and less actual quest pages/the quest pages be redirected. Quest pages are essentially data; you take the data and make an article out of it in the quest line pages. --Sky (t · c · w) 03:09, January 15, 2010 (UTC)
Also, re alt text: Wasn't me who made any sort of alt text change. --Sky (t · c · w) 03:25, January 15, 2010 (UTC)
Starlight = Foxlit != Me. Sure you got the right diff? :o --Sky (t · c · w) 20:09, January 15, 2010 (UTC)
Since you put it that way, ... no, actually. :) Both of you have aliases, both names start with S and are celestial... The confusion is natural, I tell you! I'm not really an incompetent boob... --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 20:11, January 15, 2010 (UTC)
However, the diff shows 'Starlightblunder' as the author to me. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 20:12, January 15, 2010 (UTC)
I.e., you're an incompetent boob. :P --Sky (t · c · w) 20:14, January 15, 2010 (UTC)
... That would seem to follow. At some point, I guess I tried following a talk link from either "sky" or "starlightblunder" and got the other's talk page. And it stuck. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 20:17, January 15, 2010 (UTC)

But back on templates... I come from a programming background, so what makes something a template to me is defined by the use of parameters. ... which isn't the wiki definition, but it's where I'm coming from.

And after I get over this obsession with "armor set" != "catalog of all the items that compose sets" (currently mulling over Tier 9 armors), I'm thinking of getting back in the quest chain business. Northrend quests are almost entirely chains or sets of related quests, which pleased me no end. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 20:35, January 15, 2010 (UTC)

Shaman glyphs page.

The page (configurations part) is indeed out of date. Many glyphs have been changed since patch 3.1 (which is even more obvious if you read the article), and the latest update to the articles (PvE and PvP) was done back in 3.1. Example:

The glyph used to make it so you didn't have to recast Flame Shock after each Lava Burst (since it canceled FS), but it was changed at least twice to its current state, and the glyph was added as baseline ability to the class. The article is full of these sort of incoherences, thus making it out of date. Cityhunter0505 - Etsuko (talk) 00:48, January 27, 2010 (UTC)

You've convinced me. The Warrior page is much less OOD than the shaman page. I had conflated the two. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 19:57, January 27, 2010 (UTC)
