Race names case

Before you continue, note that the policy of the wiki is to use lower case race names, e.g. draenei, naaru. WW:WRITE. Thanks!  Kirkburn talk contr 22:03, 11 February 2007 (EST)

Yikes. Sorry about the names. Was reading, saw some minor typos and got carried away. Went through the guidelines/policies to make sure I didn't miss any other such things. Thanks! (Ecwfrk 22:57, 11 February 2007 (EST))

It's fine, easily missed. We're always finding places where it's capitalised :)  Kirkburn talk contr 23:05, 11 February 2007 (EST)

Templates for server progression

I think your templates for guild progress would best be served as local templates in the server page. I guess I'll put that on my to-do list. I just wanted to let you know in case you see the code moved around a bit.--Hobinheim (talk · contr) 20:38, 22 February 2007 (EST)

I've been trying to think of the bast place to put them to sort them out before I start working on ones for the other Instances. I was putting them into Templates:Guildprogression/<instance>/<template>. If there's a better place for them though, I'm all for it as I'm still pretty new at this. I'll leave 'em alone for a few hours if you want to move 'em elsewhere. The Area 52 server page is the only one using them so far and I'm keeping a close eye on that one and will fix anything moving the templates around breaks. --Ecwfrk 20:42, 22 February 2007 (EST)
See Template:Guildprogress_naxx for an example; that's where I pulled it from.--Sky 01:50, 23 February 2007 (EST)
That's the one I based the templates on. But it doesn't work well for Karazhon's non-linear layout and random boss encounters, at least in my implementation. I found a much better layout already in use on Server:Darksorrow_Europe and have nearly completed implementing a version of that for the Area 52 page instead and have marked the templates I created for deletion as I feel they are too flawed. I may convert the Darksorrow layout into templates to make it easier to edit as it's kind of a pain right now and is easily broken but I'm a bit time limited for the next couple weeks. --Ecwfrk 17:57, 23 February 2007 (EST)
{{guildprogress kara order}} :), which is based on the table you're pursuing on this page ;P. The rest are also done, eg, {{guildprogress ally kara header}}. I'll get around to fixing the mobs (you may do so if you feel like it :)).--Sky 18:30, 23 February 2007 (EST)
I made templates for 25 man and heroic progression as well. The order templates are local as the ones I use are slightly different from the conventional ones based on the Naxx Order template. If I get time I'll edit them to follow the standard format and place them in the Template namespace. --Ecwfrk 20:03, 24 February 2007 (EST)
I can fix them up to bring them in-line with the Naxx template.
Just scanning the heroic order template, it looked fine to me. However, I do have a concern with that particular template: We'll need to add heroic instances for those at level 60 (ok, maybe not 60), and those at level 80 (or whatever the next lvl cap is). Maybe we should have one of the admins delete those pages (after copy/pasting teh infos) and make a new set with the template of {{guildprogress hero70 order}}.
The other template also looked fine, though I had to think about the name for a sec. xD--Sky 01:41, 25 February 2007 (EST)
I thought about that too when I was fixing the name of the 25man raid templates to match the convention of those defined in WoWWiki:Guild Progression Templates. But it's possible there will be more level 70 heroic dungeons at some point before the cap gets raised again so giving it a level based label could be confusing if more level 70 heroics are introduced. Every other possibility I could think of had similar issues. I finally just decided to go with the most concise label for the current state of the game rather then try and predict and plan for what may come in the future.
New day new thought though. Perhaps going with the zgaq type of naming convention would work. So for the current template a name like Guildprogress_heroic_haract_* which would allow for infinite future flexibility for any new heroic dungeons as well as any other special types of dungeons that might be introduced in the future. --Ecwfrk 18:24, 25 February 2007 (EST)
How about {{guildprogress hero70a header}}? That also allows flexibility for future instances.--Sky 22:39, 25 February 2007 (EST)

Local Kara Order

I changed the kara Order we use on the Area 52 guild progression page, moving Terestian Illhoof to the Optional column. We use a slightly different format and abbreviation system for ours which is why it's a local template. We had a guild on the server take down the prince who hasn't gotten Illhoof yet which needless to say, messed up the order :P Might want to consider the same for the main namespace template. I'd do it, but my weekend is about to start and I gotta get the Area 52 pages updated before I get off work and won't be back 'til Wed. --Ecwfrk 00:11, 26 February 2007 (EST)

Lol! I'll do that. I thought it would be a good idea to retain the local code. ;p--Sky 00:47, 26 February 2007 (EST)

I like! :].--Sky 22:36, 25 February 2007 (EST)

My brain is cooked :p Crafting lists are so monotonous with having to look up the IDs. That's why I dropped Thott lookups as they don't use the official IDs like Wowhead and Alla do. But I finally got the templates to do what I wanted. Not as elegantly as I'd like, but it works! --Ecwfrk 23:11, 25 February 2007 (EST)

/tooltip pages

It would preferable for those pages to be tagged with {{speedydelete}}, and the correct page created. eg Girdle of the Lost Vindicator. Using Help:Item articles is preferred also. This means noinclude tags (<noinclude>). If you don't want to make up the whole page, just tag it with {{Stub/Item}} after updating to the correct tooltip. Don't forget to change the original page to link to Girdle of the Lost Vindicator instead of Girdle of the Lost Vindicator/Tooltip.

Ugh, that was lengthy. Did that make sense?--Sky 17:39, 10 March 2007 (EST)

And I realize you're just catting no-cats. So this isn't real pertinent of you... xD--Sky 17:49, 10 March 2007 (EST)
Yeah. Those tooltip pages were no-cats. While I was checking them to see if/how they were used I noticed how jumbled they made the page look and since they were only being used there I quickly updated one to the stylized format while I was in there anyway just to make the page a bit nicer since it's a fairly popular one.
Cleaning up all the /tooltip transcludes to the preferable format might be a good project for a later day though. But I'm still getting my feet wet and sticking to things I can't screw up too badly if I miss something. :) --Ecwfrk 18:19, 10 March 2007 (EST)
Yeah. I've made it my mission to start with Comparison of Aldor and Scryer rewards to clean it up; that contains the majority of the tooltips. xD--Sky 18:14, 10 March 2007 (EST)

item pages wtih different faction requirements

All they need, prolly, is that you change the page to say "this item requires rep with so and so for alliance, and so and so rep for so and so faction for horde".--Sky 18:42, 11 March 2007 (EDT)

But then they'd have inaccurate and potentially confusing tooltips if they were pulled into other pages. The ones I've done so far have all been linked and not Transcluded so I just left the redirect to go to the version that already existed and then split them so going forward the functionality of the current links are unchanged but the tooltips can be Transcluded accurately. --Ecwfrk 18:48, 11 March 2007 (EDT)
Didn't mention it. But someone else found a way to do dual faction item tooltips that aren't confusing, Eventually I'll go throughand pull all the existing pages that are split for that reason (which are what I copied in my format) and covert them to the better style when possible. --Roach 16:58, 23 March 2007 (EDT)

Deprecated templates

As long as you are updating these item templates, the item quality should use {{Quality}} and your elinks should use {{Elinks-item}}. See [1] GRYPHONtc 18:15, 16 March 2007 (EDT)

Will do. Updated my templates. --Roach 19:44, 16 March 2007 (EDT)

World Boss Kill templates

I have been using some of your Guildprogression templates. I was wondering if you were thinking of creating one for world boss kills for TBC? --Tecnobrat t/c 18:52, 24 April 2007 (EDT)

I did them as part of creating my server's pages and most people there felt the World Bosses weren't worth tracking as they aren't really part of any progression but are more just bonus kills like rare elites. And as I was checking other pages using the old templates I found the World Boss tracking caused quite a bit of drama as multiple guilds would tend to argue over kill credit and I didn't want to risk that. But mostly, I didn't like the format the originals were in and since I'm not all that good with the template programming (I just edited and tweaked the original templates for TBC use) I just skipped the World Bosses as they were too much trouble to figure out how to redesign into a format I'd like for something I didn't need. --Roach 18:31, 29 April 2007 (EDT)
