Stranglethorn, et al

Thanks for catching those updates. Reminds me I need to go back through the old zones and update things. While we've got good "what changed in Cataclysm" sections, they all need to be fleshed out a bit, etc. Raylan13@fandom (talk) 16:19, July 24, 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for the feedback :) I've started too walk around in WoW and add/update info in this wiki, i'll try to use grammar check on the text i add/edit, but it doesn't allways get right D:

Just wanted to say you're doing a great job, and it now seems you're getting into more complicated things. Let me know if you need any help/have any questions. I'm totally available even if you want step-by-step how to do something.

And on another note, since you are active, would you be interested in Patroller status? Raylan13@fandom (talk) 01:14, July 28, 2012 (UTC)

Thx, and yes, i'd like to be a patroller <3

After seeing your hercules job with those northern stranglethorn quests(!) I attempted to update Quest:The Lost Pilot, but i don't know how to rename/move it properly as you did with Quest:The Green Hills of Stranglethorn. Do you creat a new page for the old quest and labels it (old) or how do you do that, or Is it some mod skill?

If you got some spare time, i'd love to know how ya did that.

cheers --ByzantiosAE (talk) 02:20, July 28, 2012 (UTC)

Rights updated ;)
There are two ways to approach quests that have changed. If the changes are relatively minor, then go ahead and make the changes to the existing page to reflect current content. We're talking who gives the quest/ends it, locations of things, minor changes to description, etc. Then you can either do a notes section and briefly mention what changes there were (ie, before the Cataclysm etc.), or put it in the Patch changes section.
The second possibility is when the quest has changed fairly significantly, so much that, for all intents and purposes, it is a brand new quest, just with an identical name. In that case, things get slightly more complicated:
  1. See what links to the current page (My Tools on lower bar, then What Links Here) - these are the pages you're likely going to have to update once things are finished. Keep that in another tab, if you're able.
  2. Rename the existing page, adding (old) into the title. Don't have a redirect, because the page you're moving from will be recreated as the current quest page.
  3. Add the {{Removedwithcataclysm}} tag to the top of the old quest page.
  4. All those pages that used to link to the old page? Now they need to be gone through so the name of the quest is accurate.
  5. Create the new quest page. Ignore the warning.
This might sound like a bit much at first, but it gets easy to do pretty quickly. The only thing that can really be a hassle is when you've got to update the name of the quest on a number of pages. If you want to avoid that step for the time being until you feel more comfortable with the rest of the process, just shoot me a message on my talk page and I'll sort through those. Questions are always welcome; don't ever feel like you're asking too much or that the question might be silly. Some things take some getting used to doing. Edits are looking great! If you've got any questions about changes I made/make, don't hesitate to leave me a message if you need. Raylan13@fandom (talk) 16:02, July 31, 2012 (UTC)
