The proc effect has been observed to be approximately 20-25%. The slowing effect from the proc affects both mobs and players. It is important to note that the proc debuff does not stack with the debuff from the warrior ability [[Thunderclap]], and that the Thunderfury's proc will take priority over it. The warrior ability [[Improved Thunder Clap]] offers the same 20% slow and will overwrite the Thunderfury debuff. The secondary nature resistance reduction debuff that is applied to the targets does not break crowd control effects, and it is unconfirmed to whether it actually generates any threat(although it will register on a mob's threat table such as critters or the bugs in Twin Emperor's room in AQ40. The Thunderfury proc may also crit for approximately 450 Nature damage.

Thunderfury still saw use in the Burning Crusade era, but has been easily outdated by current weapons. It is now considered a collector's item at best.

Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker is the legendary sword once wielded by Thunderaan, Prince of Air. Equipping the sword awards the Feat of Strength, Money achievement Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker.

Background

Ragnaros the Firelord, and his lieutenants Garr and Baron Geddon, defeated Thunderaan, Prince of Air, during the war following the First Age of Creation. Ragnaros was unable to fully destroy Thunderaan’s essence, so he forced what little remained into a talisman of elemental binding and shattered it. He gave the two halves to his lieutenants. Ages passed, and somehow the talisman halves found their way into the hands of Highlord Demitrian, a follower of Thunderaan. He recombined the talisman but was unable to release his master. Instead, he did the best he could: He crafted a blade to serve as a vessel for his master’s essence.

Thunderfury is a vicious sword, crafted from elementium and containing a crackling electrical core that might be all that remains of Prince Thunderaan. The hilt is unusually long, wrapped in black dragon hide, and studded with small spikes of black dragon bone.Template:Cite

Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker

Thunderfury art from the WoW TCG.

Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker is the reward from the quest Rise, Thunderfury!. It is the culmination of a challenging and very expensive quest chain.

  1. N [60] Examine the Vessel
  2. N [60R] Thunderaan the Windseeker
  3. N [60] Rise, Thunderfury!

The quest chain begins when you loot the Left or the Right half of the [Bindings of the Windseeker], which drop off Baron Geddon and Garr respectively, in Molten Core. Upon looting either of these, you must travel to Silithus and talk with Highlord Demitrian. He will give you the [Vessel of Rebirth] which starts the quest chain.

The next quest requires you to present the following items to Demitrian:

Bring a raid with you when you return with the required items to Demitrian because he will summon Thunderaan, who promptly attacks you. Upon defeating Thunderaan, you receive a [Dormant Wind Kissed Blade]. Deliver this to (the now rather cowed) Highlord, and he will make Thunderfury for you.

Notes

Thunderfury

Thunderfury, wielded by a Rogue.

The proc effect has been observed to be approximately 20-25%. The slowing effect from the proc affects both mobs and players. It is important to note that the proc debuff does not stack with the debuff from the warrior ability Thunderclap, and that the Thunderfury's proc will take priority over it. The warrior ability Ability thunderclap [Improved Thunder Clap] offers the same 20% slow and will overwrite the Thunderfury debuff.

Patches

  • Wrath-Logo-Small Patch 3.1.1 (2009-04-21): The quest can be started by any class.
  • Wrath-Logo-Small Patch 3.0.8 (2009-01-20): The quest can be started by the Death knights.
  • Bc icon Patch 2.0.10 (2007-03-06): The threat generated from the proc has been substantially reduced. The threat generation from a proc of Thunderfury was previously equivalent to that of approximately one application of Ability warrior sunder [Sunder Armor] from a lvl 60 warrior.
  • WoW Icon update Patch 1.12.0 (2006-08-22): Thunderfury may be equipped in either hand.
