He may be a reference to Thorin Oakenshield of the Lord of the Rings Online series, which is apparent in both the similarities of their locations (Being in harsh, arctic, and snowy environments), and on the Norse influence on the creation of both characters (Thorim being based on the Norse god, Thor, and Thorin being based on Völuspá, an old norse poem, part of the Poetic Edda). Thorim being a guardian of the races of pacts of the races of frost, which presumably includes the Frostborn, who are most likely Earthen Dwarves that adapted to the harsh conditions of Northrend, which in turn suffered many losses to the Curse of Flesh, may have had some influence from Thorin being a dwarf in the Lord of the Rings series

Thorim is seated on a throne within Temple of Storms, high above the Storm Peaks of Northrend.

His story is fleshed out in a long and expansive quest chain that eventually culminates in N [80] The Reckoning, where Thorim and Loken meet face to face, and N [80D] Whatever it Takes!, where players enter the Halls of Lightning to destroy Loken and take his lying tongue.

History

Thorim was sworn to protect Ulduar and the pacts between the races of frost. When first encountered by players at his Temple of Storms Thorim takes the form of a Frost vrykul, a fitting guise considering his responsibility to the local races of frost. When later encountered in the halls of Ulduar he appears in what is likely his true from, that of a titan, as eluded to by his apparent brotherly relationship to Loken, another titan.

After betraying the Pantheon, Thorim's brother Loken tricked him into betraying his frost giant allies by murdering his wife, Sif, and blaming it on the frost giant king. Thorim was enraged, striking out at his allies and then settling into a long stupor.

Many years later, Thorim discovered the truth. With the aid of players serving the Sons of Hodir, Thorim recovered his weapon and his shattered armor, then brought war to his treacherous brother. However, it proved to be an elaborate ruse perpetrated by Loken to lure Thorim away from the Temple of Storms, where proximity to his dark master granted him the power to overcome Thorim's attack. Thorim and his proto-drake, Veranus, were captured and taken to "new dwellings".

Ulduar

It was announced on Feb 17, 2009 that Thorim is to be a raid encounter in the upcoming Ulduar dungeon.[1] Once Thorim is defeated he is saved from the corruption and ports out, promising to aid the players against Yogg-Saron later.

Myth

His name, title, and location are references to the Norse god Thor. Thorim's hammer (Krolmir) is based on Thor's hammer (Mjolnir) and Thor's wife is also named Sif.
