BC Mount Use in Azeroth

The wiki says: "The mounts are only usable with these skills and have the ability to fly in Outland. These mounts can not be used in Azeroth." Does this mean that they cannot *fly* in azeroth, or that they cannot be summoned *at all* in azeroth? Xyrrus 14:59, 1 May 2007 (EDT)

They cannot be summoned at all. --GRYPHONtc 15:00, 1 May 2007 (EDT)

Blood Elf and Draenei Mounts

Please don't put wishful thinking or speculation in for Blood Elf or Draenei mounts. If you have a good source (Blizzard rep, game magazine, newspaper, etc.) and link to it, go ahead and put something. --Fandyllic 6:18 PM PDT 2 Jun 2006

Tiger

i am a human mage, Lv 40 , and i bought one horse , but i want change the mount tiger when my repuation of Darnassus going to exalted, is that ok? and can i sell my mount?

Yes, that's fine. Since mounts are soulbound, you can't sell or give them to anybody, and actually I'm pretty sure you can't even vendor them. Good luck with that Exalted rep though. You need it.

--FeldmanSkitzoid 23:22, 12 Oct 2005 (EDT)
I was under the impression that you could take your mount to the stable and drop it off there so you can pick it up later on. Is that wrong? (I'm not 40, so I wouldn't know, and I plan to just have the warhorse anyways--I play a paladin.) Schmidt talk 00:24, 13 Oct 2005 (EDT)

As said before, mounts now are soulbound, so you can't trade with other players, plus that, the NPC vendors won't buy it.--Avanmilton 09:41, 24 January 2007 (EST)

Speed

I had previously heard somewhere (probably in Thottbot's comments, argh) that the maximum speed a player could go under their own power was 200%. Since then, I've gotten an epic mount, and I can also confirm that speed boosters work. I think with all 3 you can get up to 218%.

A few things

A few things....
1) Riding nether dragons wouldn't really make sense.
2) The riding silithid are all RARE except the ONE legendary one, which is black.
3) The blood elf mounts are likely to be unicorns.

--Kakwakas 17:19, 25 Jan 2006 (EST)

Except for the 2) : bullshit ! (= Never speculate about WoW. The Nether Drakes were officially chosen and presentedand the Blood Elf mount is the cockatrice. I don't like people to be so sure of something => it makes being wrong harder.--Kirochi 19:00, 14 September 2006 (EDT)

General Info (1.12.1

Mounts, and the training needed to ride them, can be first purchased at level 40. Training costs 90g for Apprentice Spell holy greaterheal [Riding Skill] and 900g for Journeyman Spell holy greaterheal [Riding Skill]. There is only one skill to learn, but two levels of that skill.

There are four types of mounts:

Normal mount (level 40)

  • 100g total (10g for the mount, 90g for the training)
90g with Honored reputation 10% discount or PvP Rank 3 (Sergeant) 10% discount (9g for the mount, 81g for the training)
80g with both Honored reputation and PvP Rank 3 discounts (8g for the mount, 72g for the training)
  • Requires Apprentice Spell holy greaterheal [Riding Skill]
  • Increases movement speed: 60% faster than walking.
  • Bind on Pickup

PvP Rank Reward mounts

  • Requires you to have earned the PvP Rank of "Commander" or "Lieutenant General" (Honor Rank 11).
  • 9g (Base price is 10g, reduced by PvP Rank 3 (Sergeant) 10% discount. Mount sellers are not associated with a faction so you cannot get an Honored reputation 10% discount). Although the training 90g is affected by the Honored discount, so it would be 72g.
  • Increases movement speed: 100% faster than walking.
  • Requires Apprentice Spell holy greaterheal [Riding Skill].
  • Exactly the same as an Epic mount, but a different color and lower riding skill.
  • Bind on Pickup

Epic mounts (level 60)

  • 100g for the mount, with a requirement of 150 Riding Skill (900g)d.
900g total (including training) with Honored reputation 10% discount or PvP Rank 3 (Sergeant) 10% discount.
800g total (including training) with both Honored reputation and PvP Rank 3 discounts.
  • Increases movement speed: 100% faster than walking.
  • Requires Journeyman Spell holy greaterheal [Riding Skill] (150).
  • Epic mounts also have an exotic look compared to the normal mounts.
  • Bind on Pickup

Put this in as updated information for when 1.12.1 goes live.--Cigawoot 09:27, 15 September 2006 (EDT)

Wintersabers?

Article currently states: "Wintersabers (requires Exalted with Wintersaber to buy the mount, and Darnussus to learn Tiger Riding. Note that Night Elves need only be Exalted with Wintersaber, since they can always learn Tiger Riding from Darnassus.)."

I don't think this is accurate. Unless this is referring to the ability to buy the mount as a human/dwarf/gnome by reaching Exalted, but there is no faction entitled "Wintersaber" that I'm aware of. --thermalnoise

Perhaps adding a link to Wintersaber Trainers would make this more clear? --Stfrn 19:09, 19 September 2006 (EDT)
Yes that does clear up the confusion. --thermalnoise
But wait...it talks about tiger riding...isn't there just a riding skill and exalted is just to buy the actual mount? or am I completely mistaken? --Chidemon 16:50, 1/2/2008 (EDT)
You no longer need tiger riding from the Darn, just the skill and the rep.--SWM2448 21:51, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

Class Specific Mounts

The info I added about warlocks/paladins automatically receiving riding skill when they complete their quests *might* be incorrect. When the 1.12->1.12.1 transfer occurred, those classes automatically got riding skill appropriate to the mount they had received without needing to have had a racial riding skill. This suggests that we won't ever need to purchase riding skill if we level a warlock/paladin to level 40/60 and complete the class mount quests post 1.12.1, but I might be wrong. -- Jaxdahl 13:21, 27 September 2006 (EDT)

A blue has posted stating that they will get the Riding skill when they complete the quests post patch. -- Jaxdahl 17:34, 27 September 2006 (EDT)

Needs Introduction

This page needs an introduction. Namely, what is a mount.--Hobinheim 01:13, 22 November 2006 (EST)

Needs more about the different mounts

I believe every type of mount is mentioned at some point on this page, but to me those are just words. I would like a picture of every different mount, where you train for it, etc. downward_spiral

I was thinking about that too. I will see what I can do when I have more free time (probably later this week. Oh, and please sign your post ;). IconSmall BloodElf MaleAPΘLLΘ(ZEUS) 05:26, 11 January 2007 (EST)
The flying mounts have galleries on their own pages already. User:Kirkburn/Sig 23:26, 14 January 2007 (EST)

Flying Mounts

The Gryphon/Armored Gryphon links to pages about them, but the horde mounts are called Windriders on this bage, and links to the page about Windriders wich has info about bats and gryphons aswell. Should it be changed to Wyvern instead? Zukhramm 15:40, 18 January 2007 (EST)

Not in a million years. If they're called Windriders in the game, then they're supposed to be called Windriders in WoWWiki. This page has got it correct; if any other pages have got it incorrect then those pages need to be edited, not this one. IconSmall BloodElf MaleAPΘLLΘ(ZEUS) 15:54, 18 January 2007 (EST)
I don't know what they're called in game, but the Windraider page on WoWWiki talks about people riding and fighting on flying mounts. The page describing the creatures used as flying mounts is called Wyvern and the page about the epic one is calle Armored Wyvern. If the Wyvern pages are changed to Windrider, what should the Windrider page be called? Zukhramm 16:58, 18 January 2007 (EST)
I see your point. I've moved the Armored Wyvern page to Windrider (mount). IconSmall BloodElf MaleAPΘLLΘ(ZEUS) 17:09, 18 January 2007 (EST)

Speed slightly higher?

This is the first time I read about it, where did the information come from? --Patrigan - Talk - SH (EU) 14:18, 20 January 2007 (EST)

Nether Drake speed

Is incorrect, its 310% accoring to the official wow mount page -- D ♠ T ♣ C ♦  10:42, 24 January 2007 (EST)

The Ability mount netherdrakeelite [Swift Nether Drake] is 310% and only available to the top arena teams on a server for a season. The other Nether Drake is 280%. --User:Mucke/sig 17:45, 27 September 2007 (UTC)

Epic Mount Changes

It appears that the cost of epic mounts has changed with 2.01. As of that patch, having revered status with Darnassus dropped the price of training from 810g to 540g for my night elf hunter, while the price of the mount itself remained the same (90g). This is a reduction of 1/3 or roughly 66% for going from honored to revered where prior to the patch there was no change. This reduction is also without the 10% due to PvP rank three as this character had only reached rank two before the patch. My wife and I are currently researching if there are additional benefits to being exaulted, and will post those results when available. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Jemarsil (talk · contr).

With that patch they reduced the base training cost to 600g, hence the change. User:Kirkburn/Sig 01:51, 25 January 2007 (EST)
Ok, here's what I'm trying to understand then... Yesterday, when I tried to purchase the riding skill (150) at honored, it was going to cost me 810g. When I went back to purchase the same riding skill at revered, it only cost me 540g. Again, this is without the PvP discount which, although everyone is talking about it, I have not seen it. My wife and I have only started purchasing our epic mount training within the past few weeks and there has been no difference between our chracters that were rank 2 PvP or rank 5. I'm just trying to understand what everyone is talking about on the different websites, and how it correlates to what I'm seeing in-game. Thanks --Jemarsil 08:56, 25 January 2007 (EST)
that's strange. As far as I know, they made it 600g without discounts across the board. If what you say is right, then it means that grinding till revered will make things cheaper. Makes you wonder about exalted... --Patrigan - Talk - SH (EU) 11:30, 25 January 2007 (EST)
We are slowly working toward that end and will post the results when we get there. On the up side, all of the low lvl quests are now giving 100% rep, so we've gone back through Ashenvale Forest to complete all of them and will be moving on from here. Most of the quests give about 250 rep. --Jemarsil 12:13, 25 January 2007 (EST)

spurs etc on flying mount

riding crop improves the speed of flying mount flightspeed, just tested it. User:CrazyJack/Sig 07:04, 4 February 2007 (EST)

Those totals with Crusader aura seem odd... Why would the aura work completely different from all other speed increases. I doubt that it's multiplicative, but instead, cumulative... --Patrigan - Talk - SH (EU) 09:48, 12 February 2007 (EST)

Auras generally do NOT stack with item bonusses. e.g. runspeed/aspect of the pack, i assume the crusader auta works the same way. User:CrazyJack/Sig 03:46, 19 February 2007 (EST)
the max is 10% increase, which is why riding crop does not work with others. Crusader breaks this rule and therefore overwrites the others. User:Reskar/Sig 15:06, 1 May 2007 (EDT)

Real Speed

While discussions about speed are mostly in %, in reality it can be translated into Yards per Second or even Miles per Hour.

After several testing I found these as the real ingame speeds: See this table

Normal Run speed = 100% = 7,0 yards per second = 14 miles per hour = 23 km per hour

Normal Mount speed = 160% = 11,3 yards per second = 23 miles per hour = 37 km per hour

Flying Epic Mount speed = 380% = 26,6 yards per second = 54 miles per hour = 88 km per hour

etc

Unknown Mounts?

I heard rumor on the WoW forums that back before TBC released a CM mentioned an undiscovered mount. Anyone know anything about this?
 ∙ Zurr  TalkContr 19:16, 9 May 2007 (EDT)

I beleive he was Refering to the Ashes of Alar, and yes, I know, it is apart of TBC. KoalaMeatPie 08:17, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

Class Abilities

I beleive that only Abilities which offer a Continous speed bost, Such as the Druids' Shamans' And hunters' Can beconsidered a Travel ability. Spells such as the Rogues' Sprint and the Mages' do not fall within this, as you need to either keep clicking them, or has a Cooldown, in which case the Rogues' Sprint section should be removed KoalaMeatPie 00:42, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

Flying mount tricks

I wanted to add instructions on how to do tricks on your flying mount to this article but not sure how to best fit it in. Basically the info is that you can hold the insert key while flying forward to do back flips, the delete key to do front flips. while still moving forward and using either insert or delete if you also hold a strafe key (default to Q and E) you will do barrel rolls. --User:Mucke/sig 17:52, 27 September 2007 (UTC)

Also forgot to mention. When doing flips and you let go of the button, you fly off in whatever direction/orientation you happen to be in. So you can go straight up, do nose dives, or fly upside down. --User:Mucke/sig 18:26, 27 September 2007 (UTC)

Broom

Is there a broom mount? And if so, what other mounts are missing? Happy taurens come from TB 16:41, 30 September 2007 (UTC)

The broom mount isn't out yet, it'll be in 2.2.2. User:Kirkburn/Sig3 16:47, 30 September 2007 (UTC)
It is possibly connected to the Headless Horseman boss that is summonable in SM GY. --User:Mucke/sig 03:01, 3 October 2007 (UTC)

It is connected to him Mr.X8 20:13, 8 October 2007 (UTC)

Hippogryph Mount

Where does it say it wil require Artisan Riding? Why would a mount which Requires one to be Exalted AND cost the player 2,000g no less Require 300 riding? Even if it is Swift, because of the requisits it seems to be a fair middle ground. You are able to ride Swiftly (Like The WinterTrainers Frostsaber Mount, 75 riding, +100% speed) Yet does not Require the highest Skill, so you will not be able to partake in other activites, like grinding Netherdrake rep and having other exotic mounts. --KoalaMeatPie 07:55, 4 October 2007 (UTC)

All 280% speed mounts require 300 riding to use. Including the Skyguard rep based mount. There is nothing to suggest that this will be any different. Blizzard is slowly getting better at streamlining some things in the game, so I wouldn't count on anything in the past reflecting on anything current or future. --User:Mucke/sig 17:17, 4 October 2007 (UTC)
Then Why make it 2k gold? "make it more exclusive" ? No, it's just wrong. And all 280% mounts right now. I still say there is hope for the future :-p --KoalaMeatPie 07:19, 5 October 2007 (UTC)

Tauren & Brewfest Rams

Tauren can also ride Brewfest Rams and Swift Brewfest Rams, for what its worth. This probably isn't a big issue since the Rams are only available once per year and only a few people are probably willing to put in the effort to farm 600 prize tickets, but somewhere there's going to be some Tauren wondering "Can I ride this...?"

I have one on my Druid, so I can take a pic if someone wants it.

As a side note, you must be level 40 to purchase either ram because the item that unlocks buying them requires level 40. You don't have to have the necessary riding skill to buy them, and if you have the gold you can buy both the regular and swift ram at the same time.

--Darth603 00:29, 31 October 2007 (UTC)

Update: if you had gotten the brewfest hand stamp (the quest item that gave you the ability to purchase the rams) in 2007, you still have the ability to purchase the rams at this year's brewfest, but there's no way to earn the hand stamp now. They are exceedingly rare drops from Coren in BRD. --Azaram (talk) 08:08, 28 September 2008 (UTC)

Separation of BS and non-BC mounts

It was attempted to highlight the BC mounts differently (using hard coded colours, which break monobook), but I am wondering - how much separation should there be in people's opinions? Kirkburn  talk  contr 00:45, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

Speed Totals

Ok, I'm good at math, but I'm kind of confused at how they got those totals. 492% flying mount speed? I thought that there was only a few increases in speed. Could someone please explain to me how they got those numbers? Jclipps 00:55, 5 December 2007 (UTC)

armor=speed?

why do the epic mounts always have armor on them? doesn't that slow them down? why not take off the armor and have super fast mounts?

category

Only Gnomes get mechanical mounts?

"Mounts are a much sought after form of transportation in which players ride atop the backs of select Bind on Pickup creatures (and for gnomes, machines) of Azeroth and Outland. " I really think this should be edited to say " Bind on Pickup creatures or machines of Azeroth and outland" as with the addition of engineering flying mounts, and the fact that a dwarf can utilize the gnomish mount, stating "and for gnomes, machines" is a bold misrepresentation. Dwarves can machine too! Also, druids can ride around on a flying machine. Seem strange to anyone else? Anyways, I did not feel comfortable just editing this, as I ran across a petty exchange on whether a gun's firing action was chemically induced, or mechanically induced. I guess I am a little gun shy nooblet.--Bipper 14:10, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

Zhevra mount
