BC Mount Use in Azeroth
The wiki says:

"The mounts are only usable with these skills and have the ability to fly in Outland. These mounts can not be used in Azeroth."

Does this mean that they cannot *fly* in azeroth, or that they cannot be summoned *at all* in azeroth?

Blood Elf and Draenei Mounts
Please don't put wishful thinking or speculation in for Blood Elf or Draenei mounts. If you have a good source (Blizzard rep, game magazine, newspaper, etc.) and link to it, go ahead and put something. --Fandyllic 6:18 PM PDT 2 Jun 2006

Tiger
i am a human mage, Lv 40 , and i bought one horse , but i want change the mount tiger when my repuation of Darnassus going to exalted, is that ok? and can i sell my mount?

Yes, that's fine. Since mounts are soulbound, you can't sell or give them to anybody, and actually I'm pretty sure you can't even vendor them. Good luck with that Exalted rep though. You need it.

:I was under the impression that you could take your mount to the stable and drop it off there so you can pick it up later on. Is that wrong? == Speed ==

I had previously heard somewhere (probably in Thottbot's comments, argh) that the maximum speed a player could go under their own power was 200%. Since then, I've gotten an epic mount, and I can also confirm that speed boosters work. I think with all 3 you can get up to 218%.

General Info (1.12.1
Mounts, and the training needed to ride them, can be first purchased at level 40. Training costs 90 for Apprentice Riding Skill and 900 for Journeyman Riding Skill. There is only one skill to learn, but two levels of that skill.

There are four types of mounts:

Normal mount (level 40)
* 100 total (10 for the mount, 90 for the training)
90 with Honored reputation 10% discount or PvP Rank 3 (Sergeant) 10% discount (9 for the mount, 81 for the training)
80 with both Honored reputation and PvP Rank 3 discounts (8 for the mount, 72 for the training)

* Requires Apprentice Riding Skill

* Increases movement speed: 60% faster than walking.

* Bind on Pickup

PvP Rank Reward mounts
* Requires you to have earned the PvP Rank of "Commander" or "Lieutenant General" (Honor Rank 11).

* 9 (Base price is 10, reduced by PvP Rank 3 (Sergeant) 10% discount. Mount sellers are not associated with a faction so you cannot get an Honored reputation 10% discount). Although the training 90 is affected by the Honored discount, so it would be 72.

* Increases movement speed: 100% faster than walking.

* Requires Apprentice Riding Skill.

* Exactly the same as an Epic mount, but a different color and lower riding skill.

* Bind on Pickup

Epic mounts (level 60)
* 100 for the mount, with a requirement of 150 Riding Skill (900)d.
900 total (including training) with Honored reputation 10% discount or PvP Rank 3 (Sergeant) 10% discount.
800 total (including training) with both Honored reputation and PvP Rank 3 discounts.

* Increases movement speed: 100% faster than walking.

* Requires Journeyman Riding Skill (150).

* Epic mounts also have an exotic look compared to the normal mounts.

* Bind on Pickup

Wintersabers?
Article currently states: "Wintersabers (requires Exalted with Wintersaber to buy the mount, and Darnussus to learn Tiger Riding. Note that Night Elves need only be Exalted with Wintersaber, since they can always learn Tiger Riding from Darnassus.)."

I don't think this is accurate. Unless this is referring to the ability to buy the mount as a human/dwarf/gnome by reaching Exalted, but there is no faction entitled "Wintersaber" that I'm aware of. --thermalnoise

Class Specific Mounts
The info I added about warlocks/paladins automatically receiving riding skill when they complete their quests *might* be incorrect. When the 1.12->1.12.1 transfer occurred, those classes automatically got riding skill appropriate to the mount they had received without needing to have had a racial riding skill. This suggests that we won't ever need to purchase riding skill if we level a warlock/paladin to level 40/60 and complete the class mount quests post 1.12.1, but I might be wrong. -- Jaxdahl 13:21, 27 September 2006 (EDT)

Epic Mount Changes
It appears that the cost of epic mounts has changed with 2.01. As of that patch, having revered status with Darnassus dropped the price of training from 810g to 540g for my night elf hunter, while the price of the mount itself remained the same (90g). This is a reduction of 1/3 or roughly 66% for going from honored to revered where prior to the patch there was no change. This reduction is also without the 10% due to PvP rank three as this character had only reached rank two before the patch. My wife and I are currently researching if there are additional benefits to being exaulted, and will post those results when available. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Jemarsil.

: With that patch they reduced the base training cost to 600g, hence the change. 01:51, 25 January 2007 (EST)

::Ok, here's what I'm trying to understand then... Yesterday, when I tried to purchase the riding skill (150) at honored, it was going to cost me 810g. When I went back to purchase the same riding skill at revered, it only cost me 540g. Again, this is without the PvP discount which, although everyone is talking about it, I have not seen it. My wife and I have only started purchasing our epic mount training within the past few weeks and there has been no difference between our chracters that were rank 2 PvP or rank 5. I'm just trying to understand what everyone is talking about on the different websites, and how it correlates to what I'm seeing in-game. Thanks --Jemarsil 08:56, 25 January 2007 (EST)

::: that's strange. As far as I know, they made it 600g without discounts across the board. If what you say is right, then it means that grinding till revered will make things cheaper. While discussions about speed are mostly in %, in reality it can be translated into Yards per Second or even Miles per Hour.

After several testing I found these as the real ingame speeds:

Normal Run speed = 100% = 7,0 yards per second = 14 miles per hour = 23 km per hour

Normal Mount speed = 160% = 11,3 yards per second = 23 miles per hour = 37 km per hour

Flying Epic Mount speed = 380% = 26,6 yards per second = 54 miles per hour = 88 km per hour

Flying mount tricks
I wanted to add instructions on how to do tricks on your flying mount to this article but not sure how to best fit it in. Basically the info is that you can hold the insert key while flying forward to do back flips, the delete key to do front flips. while still moving forward and using either insert or delete if you also hold a strafe key (default to Q and E) you will do barrel rolls. -- 17:52, 27 September 2007 (UTC)

:Also forgot to mention. When doing flips and you let go of the button, you fly off in whatever direction/orientation you happen to be in. So you can go straight up, do nose dives, or fly upside down. -- 18:26, 27 September 2007 (UTC)

Hippogryph Mount
Where does it say it wil require Artisan Riding? Why would a mount which Requires one to be Exalted AND cost the player 2,000g no less Require 300 riding? Even if it is Swift, because of the requisits it seems to be a fair middle ground. You are able to ride Swiftly (Like The WinterTrainers Frostsaber Mount, 75 riding, +100% speed) Yet does not Require the highest Skill, so you will not be able to partake in other activites, like grinding Netherdrake rep and having other exotic mounts. --KoalaMeatPie 07:55, 4 October 2007 (UTC)

:All 280% speed mounts require 300 riding to use. Including the Skyguard rep based mount. There is nothing to suggest that this will be any different. Blizzard is slowly getting better at streamlining some things in the game, so I wouldn't count on anything in the past reflecting on anything current or future. -- 17:17, 4 October 2007 (UTC)

Tauren & Brewfest Rams
Tauren can also ride Brewfest Rams and Swift Brewfest Rams, for what its worth. This probably isn't a big issue since the Rams are only available once per year and only a few people are probably willing to put in the effort to farm 600 prize tickets, but somewhere there's going to be some Tauren wondering "Can I ride this...?"

I have one on my Druid, so I can take a pic if someone wants it.

As a side note, you must be level 40 to purchase either ram because the item that unlocks buying them requires level 40. You don't have to have the necessary riding skill to buy them, and if you have the gold you can buy both the regular and swift ram at the same time.

--Darth603 00:29, 31 October 2007 (UTC)

:Update: if you had gotten the brewfest hand stamp (the quest item that gave you the ability to purchase the rams) in 2007, you still have the ability to purchase the rams at this year's brewfest, but there's no way to earn the hand stamp now. So when using items or auras, it doesn't add the percent, it takes n% of what you have and adds that?

Speed Totals

Ok, I'm good at math, but I'm kind of confused at how they got those totals. 492% flying mount speed? I thought that there was only a few increases in speed. Could someone please explain to me how they got those numbers? Jclipps 00:55, 5 December 2007 (UTC)

looks like a typographical error. They typed 380% instead of 280% for epic flying speed, and then all the rest of the numbers were wrong.

So when using items or auras, it doesn't add the percent, it takes n% of what you have and adds that? For example: it would be 280% flying + crusader aura would not equal 300% but actually +(280x.2)=336%? jclipps (talk) 20:40, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

actually you should also include the normal 100% speed of your character, so the speed of epic flying with crusader aura will be (100+280)*1.2=456% , which is a 356% bonus —The preceding unsigned comment was added by DroRaz (talk · contr).

armor=speed?

why do the epic mounts always have armor on them? doesn't that slow them down? why not take off the armor and have super fast mounts?

Sign your posts please. And well, Armored mounts have a better training to carry all taht stuff around and more. That should make them faster =P Azahel (talk) 01:55, 29 March 2009 (UTC)

I think it is because they are epic and look cooler with armor... Rolandius Paladin (talk - contr) 02:02, 29 March 2009 (UTC)

Only Gnomes get mechanical mounts?

"Mounts are a much sought after form of transportation in which players ride atop the backs of select Bind on Pickup creatures (and for gnomes, machines) of Azeroth and Outland. " I really think this should be edited to say " Bind on Pickup creatures or machines of Azeroth and outland" as with the addition of engineering flying mounts, and the fact that a dwarf can utilize the gnomish mount, stating "and for gnomes, machines" is a bold misrepresentation. Dwarves can machine too! Also, druids can ride around on a flying machine. Seem strange to anyone else? Anyways, I did not feel comfortable just editing this, as I ran across a petty exchange on whether a gun's firing action was chemically induced, or mechanically induced. I guess I am a little gun shy nooblet.--Bipper 14:10, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

Locating class mounts in page

The class mounts are listed under the Discounts section, which was not at all intuitive for me when I was trying to find the DK flying mount. (I didn't know its name.) I ended up googling it and finding it at Wowhead. I suggest moving that table to a top-level heading, "mounts by class". 3.0.8

They'll still require the required rep. The racial restrictions are being removed cause of the 100 mount achievement being added and it being unfair to taurens. +1 for remove this gallery of Mount page. Klakmuf1 (talk) 01:33, November 7, 2009 (UTC)
Is this a vote or straight to act issue? BobNamataki (talk) 15:35, November 8, 2009 (UTC)
If someone really wants to push it to a vote, I have no objection. But absent someone really wanting the images to stay, I'll be acting on it. If you would like, for example, representative examples to stay in the gallery, now would be a good time to ask. ... or to do. :) --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 00:04, November 10, 2009 (UTC)

Can I buy

I was wondering if you can buy a mount without getting the riding skill.--AutisticMajor (talk) 19:52, February 13, 2010 (UTC)

You can but you wouldn't be able to use it--Toasty 04:51, February 14, 2010 (UTC)

Swift Alliance Steed/Swift Horde Wolf

I thought that these mounts were like the OS drakes, where only one dropped if you completed the achievement. -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 17:34, April 24, 2010 (UTC)

Scaleable, and 310% flight

I don't see a list of "scaleable mounts" (those mounts that adjust to current flight restrictions, owner skill level, and/or possession of a 310% flight speed mount). I'd also like to suggest the term "exceptional flying mount" or perhaps "exceptionally fast flying mount" to describe them, rather than rely on terms like "ultra-rare". What do you folks think? --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 22:19, April 27, 2010 (UTC)

A section for those would be nice. As for the pure 310% mounts, I think extremely fast flying mounts would work... already the category name after all =) SnakeSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3For Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 02:01, April 28, 2010 (UTC)

Mounts before 77

This is out of date. My Death Knight, Leontaris, knows Cold Weather Flying, and he is only Level 71. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Leogrimn (talk · contr).

Then you obviously used Inv misc book 11 [Tome of Cold Weather Flight], which is mentioned under cold weather flying. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 22:18, August 31, 2010 (UTC)

4.0.1

I need the help of someone who understands wiki code. The mount page has a spiffy new subsection for Master Riding Skill (thank you, Joshmaul!), and I want to move and consolidate some info from the 4.0.1 patch note into the new subsection. In addition - and what fouled me up - I want to include an internal link in the information's old location that point's to "Master: Level 80" (the name of new subsection). I read through the help file and I still could not get it to work. Please help me to be less fail? <3 Aliok (talk) 17:34, October 16, 2010 (UTC)

Flying mounts

I just wanted to notice that flying mounts no longer dismount you in water. I don't know since when, as I wasn't playing since Cata until recently (4.2.0), so someone might want to check that and add to the page? Algibens (talk) 15:54, 25 August 2011 (UTC)

It was 4.2.0, and it is only some flying mounts.--SWM2448 21:31, 25 August 2011 (UTC)

This Article is a mess

Literally, i think this article is a mess and i have various ways to improve it:

 • Remove the Skill and abilities section, it already exists in the main article.
 • Remove the Speed increase section and make a new article about it(ex:Mount Speed).
 • Remove the No Longer Available Mounts and link it to the Removed mounts and Arena mounts.
 • Remove the Crafted Mounts and link it to the Crafted mounts.
 • Fuse both Dropped Mounts Sections.

These are just a few suggestions--Ashbear160 (talk) 18:32, 17 December 2011 (UTC)

Articles Needs Clean Up

After coming to this article to add some of the new mounts, I found that it is a bit out of date, and really just a mess over all. There are too many sections, some which can be combined, and many missing mounts. I suggest that someone rewrite the article to fit the standards of Wowpedia. I would be willing to do it some time when my schedule clears up. SDKPhoenix (talk) 23:03, 16 December 2012 (UTC)

First Mount

What was the first mount ever added to the game? FenneKindleFire (talk) 00:10, 10 July 2023 (UTC)

going by item, spell, and mount ID's, the earliest one i know of is the Brown Horse, summoned with "Deprecated Horse Summoning (Mount)" (which presumably didn't originally have "deprecated" in the name)
in the final game, the Brown Horse is attached to the Ability mount ridinghorse [Brown Horse Bridle] instead.
interestingly, its MountID is 6. i don't know if that means there were 5 other mounts before it or what. Eithris (talk) 02:01, 10 July 2023 (UTC)
What about the mounts that were present in the alpha but were removed when the open beta was released? They were the Bengal Tiger, Spotted Nightsaber, and Leopard. FenneKindleFire (talk) 19:59, 13 July 2023 (UTC)
nah, the bengal tiger's mount ID is 32, and the lowest NPC ID for any tiger mount is the Striped Frostsaber at 6074--suggesting they were added some time later than the Brown Horse, which has an NPC ID of 284. i don't see any mounts with an NPC ID lower than the brown horse, so if there truly were any mounts before it, they're no longer present (or at least aren't visible) in the database. i'd guess such mounts may have been used only for testing the mount system, and may not have even been "real" mounts with models and animal names.
this is all totally speculative, of course. just kinda guessing at a possible explanation for the brown horse's mount ID not being 1. there could be some other reason that i don't know enough about game development to think of. Eithris (talk) 23:55, 13 July 2023 (UTC)
