Sunwell Plateau

Rename of Sunwell Plateau? Should there be a merge?Baggins 02:13, 22 October 2007 (UTC)

What Hellfire pennusula is to the Citidel, Sunwell isle is to the Plateau. I think.--SWM2448 20:44, 26 October 2007 (UTC)
That would be my guess as well. I interpreted it as Sunwell Isle being an outdoor zone/area and Sunwell Plateau being the instance.IconSmall BloodElf2 MaleAMBER(RΘCK) 21:37, 26 October 2007 (UTC)
I thought it had already been stated as such and common knowledge now. But i'm not sure if this naming is accurate, as i might recall it being Plateau as the zone and the instance is awaiting a name. *shrug* --Zealtalkcontrweb 01:03, 27 October 2007 (UTC)
Rumor has it that Blizzard has dropped the Plateau name, and the instance is just called "Sunwell". This is based on file names of the levels, and the fact that recent Blizzard employees have been only been calling it "Sunwell". More on Talk:Sunwell_Plateau.Baggins 02:53, 27 October 2007 (UTC)
Well what sounds sensible to me is the following:
Subzone of Eversong Woods (note, it said "area", i.e. quest hub)
Sunwell Isle
Winged dungeon
Sunwell Plateau
5-man instance
Sunwell Plateau: Sunwell Grove
25-man raid
Sunwell Plateau: The Sunwell
But just wait and see before thinking of something final tbh. If something needs to be settled for now, then i'd use redirects from the real terms and just use Sunwell (Zone) and Sunwell (dungeon) or whatever. --Zealtalkcontrweb 04:21, 27 October 2007 (UTC)
Sunwell Grove is the area around the fount, the Sunwell is the legendary fount - the heart and core of Sunwell Plateau. Compare AQ Ruins as the area around, and the AQ Temple as the center, i.e. the raid. --  Shandris  talk / contribs 13:10, 10 November 2007 (UTC)
I know that, but this is going off how they've been using the term "Plateau". Since when do Blizzard do things that make sense and leave lore alone? :P --   00:24, 5 December 2007 (UTC)

Subzone of Eversong Woods - Uh, What?

It's not a subzone of Eversong, it's a whole other zone...what fool put this in Eversong? --Joshmaul 06:31, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

Tru dat. -- Raze 07:06, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
Damn. Access to this place better be well planned. I'm expecting plenty of raids on Silvermoon City considering there are gonna be 2 End Game raids in Quel'Thalas. ZA already invites plenty of Alliance to the area, now with Sunwell Isle... gosh. --Invin Dranoel 16:26, 26 November 2007 (UTC)

While this wasn't mentioned in the Podcast I did notice in the magazine article a few weeks back Sunwell Isle was called a subzone of Eversong not entire new zone. Leviathon 19:12, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

For what it's worth, in the screenshot of the Blood Elf Destroyer, there is also a distinctly Alliance ship visible in the background, relatively nearby. Doesn't neccesarily mean anything about how transportation will be handled, but you never know. Suzaku 12:43, 25 January 2008 (UTC)
Also if you look close, it looks like there's a ramp from the dock to the Destroyer, which you can't find on the other destroyer down at sunsail anchorage, so I'd guess that's for transport. Meneldir 17:42, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

kael is in the main pic (as of this being written)

while you all could probably see this, im just pointing out that Kael'thas is inside that building in the picture, unless he moves during the fight, it would be kind of disappointing for the fight to be in such a plain building--Truckman1 23:40, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

I don't think that's really Kael'thas. For one, it does not look like he has that green crystal (or whatever it is) in his chest, as was revealed before. Additionally, it looks to be in the same exact pose as the various Kael'thas statues that are found in Silvermoon. I'd say it's a statue. --Maenos 01:05, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

That IS a statue the same as the ones all around Silvermoon and in front of the statue is what really looks like a blue instance portal making that the entrance to the Magisters Terrace. Leviathon 01:20, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

That's what I thought; if that were the entrance to the Plateau, the portal would be green, wouldn't it? --Joshmaul 14:45, 18 January 2008 (UTC)

Yes Leviathon 16:07, 22 January 2008 (UTC)

Oh, hey, just wondering, anyone think that those could actually be statues of Dath'Remar Sunstrider? He's the spitting image of Kael... or vice versa. Suzaku 12:41, 25 January 2008 (UTC)

I don't think it's Dath'Remar. If I remember correctly, the statues are wearing red robes. I believe the Elves mostly wore blue robes until Kael renamed them. Besides, I don't think Dath'Remar had those Verdant Sphere things. Zentyr 09:40, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

I just remembered something I saw in the PTR (before I was ganked by a level 70 NE rogue - I was a level 1 BE priest in the PvP server, as the PvE ones were acting funny when I got my info) - the picture seen above is, in fact, the entrance to the Sunwell Plateau, not the Magisters' Terrace. It's the funny fel crystal thing above the door that tipped me off (that and I've seen what the Terrace entrance looks like - and it's not like this). --Joshmaul 08:55, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

The Sunwell Trilogy

Will anything about this new zone or instances have anything to do with the comic, or refer to it in any way? Ratsmoker87 20:04, 1 February 2008 (UTC)

Dude. Kalecgos is a boss.--SWM2448 20:59, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

Instead of Sunwell Isle the island is called Quel'Danas so this pages info should be moved there. Leviathon 03:38, 9 February 2008 (UTC)

The patch notes use both forms. We'll find out once they bring up the PTRs. --k_d3 03:56, 9 February 2008 (UTC)

Discussion from Quel'Danas

Does anyone know where it is? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Makaie (talkcontr).

Sorry no, not even the book gives its location. Although its possible it could have inspired the Sunstrider Isle, but that's speculation at best.Baggins 19:27, 28 April 2007 (EDT)
it's an island near Quel'thalas. If it's ever in the game I assume it will be part of the Sunwell Plateau area. --SWM2448 19:28, 28 April 2007 (EDT)
Yep it's official, its in. Warthok Talk Contribs 03:38, 9 February 2008 (UTC)
Seeing the scar on the map I think we can say it's straight north of Silvermoon--Maibe 18:42, 9 February 2008 (UTC)
Straight north indeed, with a fair ocean separation between the two. So if the Dead Scar is the path Arthas and the Scourge took to reach the Sunwell that means they all had Water Walking. --Gordal 10:36, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
Or he parted the sea...but yea...the undead don't need to breathe air, so they could have just walked on the ocean floor. User:Coobra/Sig3 21:17, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
Actually, if I remember correctly, they went through a teleporter gate. --User:Varghedin/Sig 22:30, 11 February 2008 (UTC)

Weren't there also bridges on one of those levels?Baggins 23:56, 14 February 2008 (UTC)

In WCIII, the Sunwell was in the center of Silvermoon, and Arthas attacked by land from the north for some reason.--SWM2448 01:02, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

Presumably people used WoWMapView or similar to extract this information from the raw data files in the above linked patch. This is probably illegal though. Kidburla 01:07, 15 February 2008 (UTC)

Jurassic Park reference - Isla Nublar?

It is me or Quel'Danas island is VERY similar to the Nublar Isle from Jurassic Park novels and movie? Even the Magister's Terrace (where we fight Kael'Thas) is in the same place as the terrible T.Rex Paddock, and that "palace" in the Sunwell Plateau is in a similar place like the Visitor's Center... Even the Dead Scar travels and stops in the same way as the southern electric fence of the island, just before stopping in front of the famous giant gates of the park we all know. The northern dock of the island is also there. Sorry for the trivial note. Just it attracted my attention since I'm a fan of M. Crichton novels, and the similarities were kinda striking for me... Sadly the eastern docks aren't on the map, but seems the Greengill Coast is in the same place as the one in the novel. --IconLarge Troll Male Ravenore , the Necroshadowmancer 21:35, 9 February 2008 (UTC)

Now that you mention it, you're right, it DOES look like Isla Nublar. I wonder if we'll find that shaving cream can that the guy lost before he got ripped open? --Joshmaul 22:00, 9 February 2008 (UTC)
This is most disturbing, how could Blizzard just copy the island like this? There'll be a real copyright war soon! I remember that Sunwell looked like an orange-shaped island, more like an elllipse and not like this.
Well, more like a "plagium", perhaps they got inspired by it, willingly or unwillingly, like this Gilligan's Island, amongst other things. --IconLarge Troll Male Ravenore , the Necroshadowmancer 00:06, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

What the 3 boats to the north of the island do?Or what has in them?--IconSmall FireFireMasterIconSmall Pandaren(IconSmall BloodElf2 MaleT-CIconSmall PitLord) 18:16, 10 February 2008 (UTC)

I went close to one of them and it was full of dawnblade blood knights, probably a quest.--Gurluas 18:44, 10 February 2008 (UTC)

The boats, the NPC's on them, and those around the harbor become a Daily Quest once the serves reaches Phase 3 - after they take back the armory.

Possible Mount

Now that we can see rideable dragonhawks in the instance (and the flightmaster), will there be any obtainable dragonhawk mounts?  IconSmall HighElf Male Mr.X8 Talk Contribs 18:39, 10 February 2008 (UTC)

They should change the FP mounts in front of silvermoon from bats to dragonhawks.. User:Coobra/Sig3 21:47, 10 February 2008 (UTC)
Originally the Silvermoon FP did use Dragonhawks back in the alpha but they were changed to bats probably since they figured players would complain that draenei just got hippogryphs. Leviathon 22:00, 10 February 2008 (UTC)
Thats true...they should have come up with a draenei flying mount... an elekk with wings LOL. but srsly... maybe a moth. User:Coobra/Sig3 23:45, 10 February 2008 (UTC)

No Scourge presence?

I don't know this has been asked yet, but I'm kind of surprised there's no Scourge presence to speak of, seeing as how the Scourge is what originally did the Sunwell in. Did Kael and his Legion buddies take care of that, or did someone else? --Super Bhaal 02:48, 11 February 2008 (UTC)

There are TONS of Undead at the Dead Scar area which the Legion is fighting. Leviathon 03:19, 11 February 2008 (UTC)

Well in the instance there are going to be Fel Frost Wyrms, which could hint to there being a Scourge presense in the area. Warchiefthrall 23:26, 11 February 2008 (UTC)

The operative word being "fel" - which generally applies to anything corrupted by the Legion. Felblood, fel orc, etc. So no, they're not Scourge per se. However, during the bombing runs over the Dead Scar, I have seen demons fighting ghouls and skeletons. Besides, seeing as there are still residual traces of Scourge from Silvermoon to Deatholme, it would make sense for there to be at least SOME Scourge presence on Quel'Danas, seeing as that's where the path ends. --Joshmaul 23:58, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

There is a Scourge presence on Quel'Danas.Skeletal Ravagers, and [[Frenzied Ghouls ]] Yorgiorgiorg 23:37, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

Okay, I am really confused as to how this place is accessed. The article talks about flight paths to Sun's Reach, but how are you supposed to get to the island in the first place? It's all very well the Horde having a high-level portal from Silvermoon (and incidentally, it needs to be specified what level this portal appears at, and where in Silvermoon it is located) but how do the Alliance races get here? I mean, how do they access it on the PTR? Kidburla 19:38, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

The flight path is automatically given to you when you get the quest to go there in the middle of Shattrath. Leviathon 19:40, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
It was annoying as is flying allllll the way to EPL to do Naxx ever night (before TBC) as Alliance....but now to do the same flight except even longer to go through two more lands...well technically three since you fly to the top of the island... >< . They should have used the docks for travel purposes. User:Coobra/Sig3 21:01, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
Maybe the docks will be used once taken over. And maybe the portal to shattrath will be both ways. Leviathon 01:24, 14 February 2008 (UTC)
If both these things happen, then it will make it very easy for sub-58 characters to get to and from Outland. They will just be able to get a boat to Quel'Danas and then a portal to Shattrath. Rather than at the moment where you have to pay the nearest mage to portal you across. Kidburla 01:00, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
They changed the flight path with today's PTR push. Direct FP from IF to the Isle now. Port to IF, get on the bird, get ported directly to the Ghostlands, then fly up from there. Dunno if that's just for testing or how it's going to work now.--k_d3 01:15, 15 February 2008 (UTC)

I'd imagine it is a permanent change just to make up for the huge difference between horde and alliance travel times to the Isle. Leviathon 02:12, 15 February 2008 (UTC)

Wait can the alliance come though the horde portal and go to Silvermoon And That Would Probbly Be More Easyer Than Going Though The Front Door Of The City To Raid, This Might Be Like The Horde Going Into Stormwind Deepran Tram So I Think This Will Be Possable For Alliances Players To Go Though It Nat 07:42, 25 February 2008 (UTC)

For what it's worth, I just tried to swim to it from just north of Sunstrider Isle. This may have been a 'duh' idea, but they did block access. Invisible wall. Though the outline of the island IS visible from the northernmost part of the continental shelf there. Between fatigue and HP, I might've made it, too. That said, it would appear that the ONLY way over is the FP. Guess they've learned through the years that explorers will try anything to see zones they're not supposed to! ;.; Satrine (talk) 22:34, 17 May 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, you could swim across in the beginning but the idiots put that wall up around the island. Its silly and it hurts world immersion for some of us. It is totally unneeded. --Crash (talk) 18:13, February 19, 2010 (UTC)

"It will be the first outdoor zone added to the game via a patch."

Weren't Silithus and EPL also added through patches? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Hypehuman (talkcontr).

First sig your post with ~ ~ ~ ~ without the spaces. Also EPL wasn't added through a patch unless you mean the PvP objectives which added almost nothing. Now Silithus WAS technically very altered and changed with the patch before Ahn'Qiraj preparing for the instance and it basically did become a whole new zone. Leviathon 15:53, 14 February 2008 (UTC)
The claim is valid -- both EPL and Silithus existed at release. Patches added PvP objectives to EPL and Silithus was extremely reworked, but they were still there before the patches. -- < こちら  talkcontrib   16:20, 14 February 2008 (UTC)

Like this? Hypehuman 00:23, 18 February 2008 (UTC)

I think it mostly comes down to personal opinion of what a "New Zone" would be. In my own opinion I would consider Silithus having been added. As I remember Silithus was closed much in the same way Hyjal is now, wasn't it? I may be wrong, I just seem to remember it being opened in a patch. Wyndrunner 08:21, 1 April 2008 (UTC)
EPL shouldnt even be in this conversation. Its been 95% of the way it is now since start. Silithus has always been in the game and has always been open. It was majorly reworked but from an objective stand point it wasn;t "added". The claim stands true.Warthok Talk Contribs 08:31, 1 April 2008 (UTC)
They redid Silithus. It was always in the game. Just not all that useful. --k_d3 08:34, 1 April 2008 (UTC)
Ahh, sorry, I didn't realize it was actually open the whole time. I must have just never had any reason to go anywhere near there until they redid it. Never really even did much in Un'goro either though, that may be why.Wyndrunner 14:28, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

Improved Flame Quality

Still out of all of Quel'Danas the new flame graphics really stand out, much better then the fuzzy particle effects of old, their used in front of Brutallas and I believe on some torches on the island. Also noting here the improved flames seen at Utgarde Keep, any other comments to go with this? If your reading this Bliz, keep up the good work! - Valros 02:25, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

Yes, they have upgraded the fire graphic, see Howling Fjord for example. It can also be seen as the mysterious fires near the Oshu'gun Crystal in Nagrand (daily quest from Shattrath). If you look in the MPQ files the fire texture is taken from Expansion2 (WOTLK), this is just a sneak peek of what's to come =) And I love that the updated fire graphics work well with my graphic card =P --  Shandris  talk / contribs 11:56, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

One thing I have noticed before on the PTR and now on the live realms is that the weather changes as you take more of the Isle. When you first go to the Isle before anything was taken the rain was at the heaviest setting and gets lighter when you take the sanctum. After the armory is taken the rain stops but the clouds remain and they completely clear away once the harbor is taken. Just a nice effect I noticed Blizzard added. Leviathon 08:51, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

Error at article?

At the begining of this article there is a phrase "It is the first outdoor zone added to the game via a patch." Isn't Silithus was added in patch 1.8 with loads of quests and 2 raid dungeons? --Suhov 10:06, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

No. See my response to this earlier in the page (check the ToC). Silithus was always in game, just not all that useful before 1.8. Additionally, AQ20/AQ40 were added in 1.9. --k_d3 19:51, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

So I know we have a section for the various quests that get revealed when the phases change. But what about an article or section about the resources that change as well? I don't remember which came with what, and I know some servers must be further along than mine. But the portal to the Isle came with one of them, a trade vendor came with another, and so forth. Phases Article

I think there should be an article dedicated to the Isle of Quel'Danas phases instead of just having them on the quests page. It could have some information on the storyline as well as which buildings are conqured on each phase and what new vendors appear. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Arcanedeath (talkcontr).

Has anyone else noticed that PvP seems to badly bugged on this isle? I know that initiating PvP around the NPCs causes a Peacekeeper to come kick the crap out of you, but near the Sunwell building? Turns grey/green same as any other place does... green at 3 levels under you, grey at 8. And no other zone states when places turn grey on players... they do state what the intended levels are for a zone, maybe that can be added. Though it kind of already states its a level 70 zone, which is what it was intended for, levels 70s. User:Coobra/Sig3 06:44, 15 December 2008 (UTC)

How Arthas got there

This was brought up in the older "Discussion from Quel'Danas" thread. I said how he got there in Warcraft III, but in Arthas: Rise of the Lich King, he uses some sort of Path of Frost with Frostmourne to make a bridge.
