Ranger?[]

Isn't it a bit wrong to say that Alleria, Sylvanas and Vereesa are Hunters? A Ranger isn't the same thing as a Hunter. Doesn't being a Hunter require having a pet for instance?--Odolwa 01:52, 3 December 2006 (EST)

You are probably right. In the RPG Alleria doesn't have the hunter class.Baggins 20:07, 2 December 2006 (EST)

I agree, rangers and hunters are simular but not the same. They are the same in terms of prefering ranged fighting over melee but they differ in hunters having pets. Rangers are like a mix between hunters and rogues. --Diggory 05:22, 23 January 2007 (EST)

I disagree with the view that Alleria didn't have a pet. First of all, I will agree that there was no mention of a pet anywhere in Warcraft 2. But just because it wasn't mentioned, it doesn't mean there wasn't one. If you look at her statue in Stormwind, you will see that there's a bird perched on her arm. Therefore, it fills the prerequisite of the Hunter's pet.

Incidentally, I disagree that all hunters must have pets. -- mr. peasant 17.25, 23 January 2007 (GMT)

ahhh yes i see what you mean Mr Peasent. Point well made. --Diggory 07:41, 6 February 2007 (EST)

Shouldn't this be WoW specific?[]

Coming here as a new player to learn about hunters (to decide whether or not to play one), I get information at odds with the game (e.g., all races can be hunters). At the very least, there should be caveats when the info is in conflict with the game mechanics. --SwordMage 13:56, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

class nav[]

I re-added it since every other class lore page (and really every other class page in total) has it. While I can see why a lore page may not benefit from it as much as, say, an abilities page it should either be on all lore pages or no lore pages. And, since lore pages are listed on it, i'll opt for the former former for now. Feel free to revert if you strongly disagree :) Squar 22:02, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

Orc hunters[]

According to several articles of lore, the orcs of Draenor, before the corruption were mostly hunters. With the corruption, however, they turned into warriors. Now true, many are returning to the old ways but... just because the art skipped a generation, doesn't mean that the orcs "first learned the ways of the hunt from the forest trolls of lordean". For example, etrigg, though also listed as a warrior, he lived in the wilds for many years, avoinding human patrols and elven rangers with ease. Thus, during that time, he must have remembered the old ways of the hunter and abandoned the barbaric warrior ways which were common at the time. Baldr 00:16, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

The problem is you were missing context of that sentence, in the RPG there are two types of hunter (with specific definitions), there is those that hunt but just have the "profession", "hobby", "survival skill", this can be held by any class.
Then there is the hunter class. Not all hunters have the hunter class. The hunter class is a very specific and specialized combat class. Basically its the difference between being a hunter in the Nessingwary Expedition (anyone of any class can hunt for them) vs. a fighting hunter, those specific class skills were specifically taught to them by the trolls.Baggins 17:45, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
