Desperate Prayer is an instant self-only heal that costs no mana to use. It is a talented ability in tier 2 in the holy tree. The talent used to be a racial spell available to humans and dwarves only.

Notes
- This spell's main use, both in PvE and PvP, lies as a "panic button", undoing any situation should you find yourself at critical health levels and in dire need of a heal.
- In PvE and PvP, as the spell automatically heals the caster, the priest can heal himself without needing to deselect, then re-select, his current target, or reaching for self-cast keys, saving crucial moments in tight situations.
- In PvP, the fact that it is a free spell may make a difference when mana is tight.
- In Battlegrounds, the spell's short cooldown means it can be used frequently, sometimes in every encounter, helping both with holy priests' poor survivability and their relatively finite supply of mana.
Talent Improvements
- [Twin Disciplines] increase the healing recieved from Desperate Prayer.
- [Test of Faith] work well in conjunction with Desperate Prayer since the spell is most often used while on critical health levels.
[Grace] stacks will increase healing done by Desperate Prayer.
Tips and tactics
Desperate Prayer is widely considered an optional talent in the Holy tree, as it often doesn't see a lot of action. Usually, a 
[Guardian Spirit] or 
[Pain Suppression] will take precedence over Desperate Prayer. Whether to take the talent or not is up to personal preference.
Patch changes
Patch 4.0.1 (2010-10-12): Desperate Prayer is now free of cost. - Patch 3.0.2 (2008-10-14): Desperate Prayer changed into a talent in the holy tree, no longer a racial ability.
