The Spirit of Competition is an event that first occurred from August 8 to August 24, 2008 (coinciding with the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China).

Lore

"Every two years, the Spirits of Competition grow especially fervent, and draw close to the mortal realm. During such times, members of both the Alliance and Horde can honor the spirits and earn Competitor's Tabards by seeking to defeat one another in the battlegrounds. For victory in competition, they can also earn the spirits' favor in the form of a prized gold medal - and the special pet it summons."

Rewards

  • [Competitor's Tabard] - Obtained from losing or winning a battleground. You MUST stay for the full duration of the battleground.
  • 'Spirit of Competition' Small Pet - Obtained from winning a battleground. Every time you win a battleground, you have a 50% chance this pet is mailed to you. It is summoned by a [Gold Medallion]. There is only one color available at the moment. The battleground you play doesn't matter, but winning does.
  • Souvenir TBD - No information yet.

Notes

The fact that this event will happen every two years likely means that it will be active during both seasonal Olympics, Summer and Winter.
