Hellscream is a central time zone PvE server for Blizzard's MMORPG, World of Warcraft. It is a high population server that has been around since the opening of World of Warcraft with a thriving economy, a dedicated raiding base, and a strong player community. It used to have one of the best Alliance to Horde ratios of any server, but realm transfer adversely affected the Horde side, shifting the balance to Alliance by 3 to 1. It has also caused the server to become hostile towards other realm recruiters, especially those that target Horde players.

The server's name comes from the character Grom Hellscream.

Server History / Timeline

The Old Ages

Hellscream was one of the original realms, available on launch day in November 2004. Some notable guilds that formed on the server in the early period were Forgotten Legacy, Keepers of the Faith, and Immortalis. In the Spring of 2005, Alliance raiding guild Brainstorm fell apart over various issues, and many members were absorbed by Forgotten Legacy and Keepers of the Faith. Also in the Spring of 2005, Return to Honor reformed under the new guild name Attrition after a falling out with their leader, Aldrek.

Most curiously to note in Horde history is the conception and later performance of the Horde group that is often referred to by many as "The Horde Pickup", though they call themselves KuG or the Koalition of Uber Guilds. KuG was named jokingly after Kug, the first known Horde player to ninja something from Azuregos. This group was formed under the banner of multiple different Horde guilds in early/mid 2005 and to the surprise of the community was their ability to achieve what only a normal functioning guild should, even managing to grab the first Horde-side kill of Razorgore the Untamed in Blackwing Lair. The original KuG later formed the guild Time Out and allowed for KuG 2.0 to assume the mantle of Horde PuG masters of Hellscream.

Throughout the fall of 2005, the Alliance guild Echoes of Elysium also began to establish itself as a major raiding guild on Hellscream to complement the likes of FL and KTF.

Server Transfers

The opening of Staghelm transfers due to overwhelming queues in the latter portion of 2005 become a turning point in Hellscream's history as this was the server's first exodus. Some saw this transfer as an opportunity to escape reputation problems on Hellscream as well as providing the opportunity to re-align the balance of force on Staghelm. Several well-known guilds such as Attrition, Dawn, and The Foundation transferred as well.

A second character transfer later opened up on Hellscream to a new server, Khaz Modan.

On April 10th, 2006, Blizzard opened transfers from Hellscream to Dalvengyr, a new PvP server. Many took advantage of the chance to experience a PvP server with their main characters. Many guilds transferred as well, including Immortalis, Echoes of Elysium, Element Zero, and Forgotten Legacy. This transfer severely thinned the server's ranks and dropped it from the high population tier.

The Great AQ War Effort

On February 6, 2006, Hellscream completed the war effort in a three-way tie for 10th place among all servers. The gong was rung by Araex, mage of Immortalis. As with many other servers, there was a large debate among those on the server as to participation in the effort and why it mattered, which inevitably let to conflict within the community. Both Forgotten Legacy and Xiled Horde sponsored a raffle contest to aid in the war materials turn-in, which inevitably sped up collection efforts, a contribution duly appreciated by the server. A lingering effect of the War Effort opening was the conflict created by Immortalis's decision to open the gates at a time while server population was high, inevitably leading to server crashes. The resulting backlash from raiding guilds such as Keepers of the Faith, Forgotten Legacy, and Echoes of Elysium deteriorated relations between the guilds for a time.

Current Conflicts

PvP Games

As with many servers, PvP games between Alliance and Horde continue to spur controversy at least weekly between the Alliance and Horde. Common points of conflict include AB zone killing, exploitative positions in AV and AB, as well as many other issues. Often times these issues will originate from either "GM group" of either faction (GM group meaning the group with the person next in line to receive the highest rank possible in PvP).

Forum Characters

The Hellscream forums have always been an active source of dramatic debate and comedy since the servers conception. Several characters who are inevitably linked to the forums are worth noting.

• Doomstar - A paladin on a crusade to rid WoW of gold farmers and all who would protect them.
• Kite/Cima- The pinnacle of Hellscream's forums. Anybody who's anybody knows Kite or has beared his children.
• Zanti - Former member of the forums. Famous for not leveling to 60 until November 2005 after playing since release. Best known for calling people "douchebags" and "morons." Also led the Anti-AQ movement on the forums. Is currently being encouraged to rejoin WoW by the current top horde PvP'er on Shattered Halls, for those who want to pay to transfer for the privelege of playing with the legendary Zanti.
• Djzapz - Forum drama queen and troll most known for flaming anyone and everything who comes in his path. Lives by "Whether you hate me or you love me, what's important is that you know me"

In-Game Characters

While not always riddled with drama and excitment, the chatter that goes on in the game itself is exploding with wild stories of players ninja looting, selling un-imaginable epics and even rumored to be a Blizzard Employee or GM. Below are characters that everyone on the server knows.

Drama Kings and Queens

• Edgewalker - Self-proclaimed "Nicest Guy on the Server". However, he single-handledly earned more focused ire than many of Hellscream's infamous players with his massively inflated ego and passive-aggressive shenanigans that created and destroyed two Horde guilds, Gehenna and Dark Gauntlet. A former officer of Immortalis in release and Silvermana in beta, he was run out of the server on a rail after a final attempt to make an across-the-board innocence plea for all of his malfeasance.
• Sayuri - Edgewalker's muse and mutually destructive, co-dependent sycophant. Eventually gave her account away. Naturally only a ninja could consider deviating themselves from such a tainted character.
• Rynoryder is also an infamous character. He has become famous for being such an insightful and knowledgeable player, while helping out everyone who needs it. He also is liked by almost every player or the Hellscream server, in a playful /licking kind of way! So if you encounter him don't be afraid to /lick him... barrels of fun! However it may result in a /slap in return... This is natural of course due to his drama queen like behavior.

Famous Ninja Looters

“Screenshots or it didn’t happen” has become the slogan for many people responding to such threads. Considered good form, posting a screenshot as proof will go a long way to convince the forum community that the item was infact "ninja'd."

As of this edit time (March, 2007) there has not been a major reported ninja looting event since prior to the release of the Burning Crusade expansion, and all prior data was removed due to questionable proof.

• Rynoryder Despite his previously mentioned hospitality, mention in the above drama queens and kings section. he is also well known ninja. People generally don't care about his superb ninja looting abilities because he only attacks lower levels. He is noted as the Stockade and or Uldaman bandit. (if you ever encounter Rynoryder while he is on, which he most likely will be, stop and say hello you ninja!) You two should get a kick out of that. However there is no screenshots of his actions.. It is widely known and accepted of his looting. Rynoryder has moved on to bigger things now, ninjaing items from level 70 instances and has even started doing heroics and ninjaing many epics from them. WARNING DO NOT GROUP with this impolite, epic stealing, and very insignificant to the progress of our realm, player.

Penut- An orc hunter, About 2 weeks ago he created his second guild the firts one was a disaster and a joke. Since he has created this new guild it has been a successes so far he commonly spams /2 for guild invites but he doesn't care. They are a decent guild surprisingly there already running kara and it has only been one week pretty impressive for him. People say he is a noob i think every one should give him a chance he was a noob at one point true but he has changed. He Didn't quit wow because he was bored lol. He had varsity football and sports come before other stuff in his life lol kinda surprising. This edit is a bit different then other ones it is honest and truthful, he is really a nice guys ounce you get to know him for example hell message you to ask if you heal for a heroic and you will say no sorry penut i have a raid and hell says " Good luck man have fun ". So I would for every one to give him a chance :D

• Axelsfire - A level 60 Human warrior from <BrothersOfDestruction PL> ninja'ed the loots, DEed and hearthed out. He admited it from while talking to Agamemnon.

• Cuminsdiesel - A level 70 Human mage scammed Ganderfel with his spellcloth transmutes mats. Then refused to give the spellcloth and the procs.
  

He also changed his toon name for Jmonns and got caught from posting on his old forum account... rofl.
