Xaan has the typical build of human females found within the lands of Azeroth. Her skin is somewhat fair and her eyes are a dark shade of blue. She like to keep her long black hair (which is a family trait) bound in a pony tail, as it is much easier to do battle when one can see the other combatant and not one's hair.
The numerous campaigns she has undertaken has had their affects on her body. While she is generally healthy, small scars can be found on various parts of her body. Her training as a medic has allowed her to take care of most of her injuries; some received on the field of battle, however, never completely healed.
Xaandria is the half-sister of a paladin and a priestess, the union of a traveling blacksmith, Thorvald Willhemson and a bar wench, Anna Bakersfield, he met one night while tryinig to find new customers. By the time she was born, the blacksmith was long gone, leaving Xaan with her mother, who herself traveled from village to village, looking for an inn to work in. After a while, her mother fell ill. Many doctors were consulted but none could cure her. Knowing that she had very little time left, Anna set out to find Thorvald and let him know he had a daughter. After months of searching, she finally tracked down the blacksmith and introduced him to his daughter. It took some time for Xaan's step-mother to accept her, as her presence was a reminder of Thorvald's infedility. However, Xaan's charm won over Iliana's heart and she became a full-fledged part of the family.
Xaan wanted to follow her siblings into service of the church of the light. She respected both of them because of what they stood for and was especially proud of her brother Alexaandr, because she had an affinity to paladins. After speaking with him and meeting with various paladin trainers within the order, she decided to follow his path and commit to the order of the paladin. Her teachers were amazed at how capable she was with the magical arts.
During her training in the order, she started seeing many of her fellow paladins fall from what she felt was the ideals of the order. Many would be unwilling to help others in need. Others would steal from those who were not as powerful as them. Unable to reconcile these actions with the teachings of the church, she left the order and the church, much to the chagrin of her family. She stormed out of the Catherdral of Light in Stormwind City and headed to the park, hoping the quietness afforded there would help calm the raging anger that had been built up.
As she walked through the park, she began to feel a strong pull to one of the taverns, The Slaughtered Lamb. She had heard of the place, had heard that most people stay away from it because it had been rumored that great evil eminates from there. However, she felt no fear of the alleged evil. Instead, she felt at peace, as though something in the tavern would bring relief to the anger that had built up inside of her.
Within minutes of entering the tavern, she was shown a secret passage to the basement, where a coven of warlocks were practicing their arts and instructing others to do the same. The trainers took great interest in her story, reveling in the prospect of taking a light-wielding paladin and changing her to a shadow-weaving warlock. With haste, the began her instruction in the dark arts of warlocky. To Xaandria, the prospect of having power and no "moral code" that the paladins have was quite appealing, as she viewed most paladins hypocrites for failing to live up to the code while expecting others to.
As she grew in power and traveled about the lands of Azeroth, she once again came in contact with those of the order she had left. She saw countless acts of bravery and heroism that she thought was non-existent in the order. She saw many paladins help others, not asking for anything in return. In short, she saw that many more were living the way of the paladin than she thought.
Seeing the err of her ways, she began to repair whatever damage her leaving the order caused. She was too deeply entrenched in the ways of the warlock to ever turn back but she would do what she could to use her dark powers to help others. Spending countless days in conversation with her brother, the paladin Alexaandr, she started this process.
Xaandria also has a fondness of the dwarves and Ironforge. When she left the order to begin her training as a warlock, she felt shunned by her friends and family (though, in reality, she never was). At the urging of her mentors, she moved to Coldridge Valley to train with the gnomes and dwarves. It was during these months of being around the dwarves that she learned to love their spirit and genuine friendship towards her.
For most of the time she's been of age to join a guild, Xaandria has been a member of the Black Myrmidons, the guild that her brother was a founding member of. On two occassions she left the guild to join others (Forgotten Dreams and Ladies of the Myst) due to various issues but she has always returned. Sadly, low numbers doomed the guild and the Myrmidons were finally disbanded.
After the Myrmidons dissolved, she was granted membership into the Poets of the Blade, one of the member guilds of the Small Guild Association, a group of smaller guilds that banned together to raid (the Myrmidons was a part of this as well). For a few months she continued to adventure with the Poets and the SGA until the leadership of said groups decided to retire and move back to Ironforge. Many of the more experienced members of the various SGA guilds (including Xaandria) left their guilds to form Fulcrum. Most members of Fulcrum still are active in SGA activities, however.
As a warlock, Xaandria has learned the ability to summon and control various demon minions to aid her in her travels. Through their abilities, whether it be Gelham's power to grant Xaandria's allies more stamina to Fzuughon's ability to chomp awaythe magical power of an enemy, she is made a more powel warlock and, as such, is made a more valuable ally.
As she has learned to harness felpower to call forth demons, she has come to love her various minions, even if they, at times, do not return that love. Minions under her control are:
- Gelham, the mouthy imp
- Graz'zazt, the moody voidwalker (or her blueberry, as she likes to call him)
- Drusna, the neglected succubus
- Fzuughon, her beloved felpup
There are other minions she can control, though due to their nature, she cannot always call forth the same one. Therefore, she has never taken the time to learn the names of the various infernals and doomguards she is able to call forth. Unlike her four named minions, the infernal and doomguard have the power to break free from their chains and attack Xaandria and anyone around her, forcing her to think twice about bring them into this world.
