I've just put some generic placeholder content in these Abilities Tables pages until I can see if this format meets with everyone's approval. If it does, I'll get the rest of the content entered.
Overview
Raptor Strike is a strong-attack melee ability that a Hunter can use to do +damage. The initial ability is acquired at level 1 and is a Hunter's only melee style for a few levels. As with most spells or abilities, Raptor Stike is tied to a timer and one must wait for that timer to recycle to reuse the ability. Range is 5 yards.
Functionality
Uses
- At first you will use this virtually every time the timer recycles as it will be your only melee style for a while.
Limitations
- Fairly long timer recycle considering one is fighting for one's life... ;)
Range
- 5 yards
Cooldown
- 6 seconds
Casting Time
- Next melee
Upgrades
- [Savage Strikes] (Survival Talent): Increases the critical strike chance of Raptor Strike and Mongoose Bite by 10% per rank (2 ranks total).
Raptor Strike Tips
- Use as often as possible as timer recycles
- When an enemy runs in to attack you, activate raptor strike as they approach. The spell will wait for your "next swing", so when the enemy reaches melee range, you will immediately hit them with a raptor strike.
- [Savage Strikes] is a two point talent in the Survival tree, which provides a +20% bonus to the hunter's chance to crit with both raptor strike and mongoose bite. For mongoose bite, this is a relatively trivial improvement; however, raptor strike is an "on next swing" spell. It is attached to a melee strike, so when a raptor strike crits, the entire attack crits. This gives hunters in the survival tree an incentive to carry slow, hard-hitting two-handed weapons - your raptor strikes will deal much higher damage on average, and the slower weapon speed works against the raptor strike cooldown, so more of your melee hits can be raptor strikes.
