Rumored New Alliance Race

As of mid-December 2005, Blizzard has yet to announce the new Alliance race that will come with the Burning Crusade expansion. As with most speculations on unannounced details, many rumors have swirled about what the new race might be. Below is a table of WoWWiki members' analysis of these rumors (or at least the ones we know).

• Levels of likelihood (of being true):
  • Possible — Few lore changes would be required and some evidence exists. Some connection to the Alliance already.
  • Unlikely — Some lore changes would be required and little evidence exists. Tenuous connection to the Alliance.
  • Very Unlikely — Some lore changes would be required and scant evidence exists or severe balance and technical issue involved. No known connection to the Alliance.
  • Extremely Unlikely — Lots of lore changes would be required and no evidence exists. No known connection to the Alliance.
  • Moslty Debunked — Debunked as a possibility by generally known to be reliable sources (game journalists, industry insiders, etc.).
  • Debunked — Debunked as a possibility by supposed official sources (Blizzard employees).

Ogre	Possible	WC1-3	- Traditionally Horde Race + Originally from Draenor/Outland + Ogres were touched up a bit with a few of their animations + Well researched Ogre Rumor.
Mountain Giant	Unlikely	WC3	- Possible balance issues. + Lore connections to Alliance.
Tuskarr	Unlikely	WC3: TFT	+ Limited lore connections to Alliance. - Unlikely to appear without Northrend. - No known similar models in-game.
Centaur	Very Unlikely	WoW	+ Hatred for Taurens. - Xenophobic to Alliance. - 4 Legs Technical Difficulty.
Cenarion†	Very Unlikely	WoW	+ Alliance connection. - Minimal lore. - 4 Legs Technical Difficulty.
Gnolls	Very Unlikely	WoW	- At war with Alliance. - Little evidence of civilization.
Naga	Very Unlikely	WC3	- No Legs Technical Difficulty. - No lore connections to Alliance.
Nerubian	Very Unlikely	WC3	- Many Legs Technical Difficulty. - No lore connections to Alliance. - Unlikely to appear without Northrend.
Goblin	Extremely Unlikely	WoW	- Neutral Race not likely to side with Horde or Alliance. - Would require lots of lore changes. - How would Neutral cities remain neutral?

Notes

• At Blizzcon, creative director, Chris Metzen had this to say regarding the new race: "When we finally reveal [the alliance race], it's gonna blow your mind. At first, you are gonna say 'whaa?', but then 'wow...'. It's gonna be awesome."

• ¹ Gaming Steve is a dubious source, but could be considered an industry insider.

• ² According to GamerGod, Caydiem said: "Do you really think we'd introduce a race of jungle cat-people that has absolutely no relation to Outland whatsoever? ;)" (This might imply the race has something to do with outland)
