"It's scary even when someone other than an ogre mage casts it." - Moala Stonebinder[1]

Bloodlust is a shaman buff. The Alliance version is Ability shaman heroism [Heroism], and the Horde version is Bloodlust. They are exactly the same aside from their name.

Lore

Bloodlust is defined as "a strong desire for bloodshed."

Bloodlust is a spell that increases a creature's size, strength, and attack speed. Appeared in Warcraft II and III.

According to the RPG, Bloodlust requires a drop of blood mixed with earth to cast.

Talents

Notes

Following patch 3.0.2, both Heroism and Bloodlust affect the entire raid. Also, everyone who is affected by the ability receives a 5 minute debuff called Sated, preventing them from being affected by either Heroism or Bloodlust for the duration of the debuff (5 minutes). The duration of this debuff was increased to 10 minutes in Patch 3.1.0, whereas the cooldown of Bloodlust was reduced from 10 minutes to 5 minutes.

Tactics

  • The most common use for Bloodlust is during bosses in raids. When it is used varies from boss to boss and guild to guild, but usually at the last 25% of the boss.. When soloing, it can be useful for crunch situations or tougher mobs, such as targets for group quests.
  • As part of Blizzard's new movement toward "bring a player, not a class" raid compositions, Cataclysm will endow mages with a similar effect, Ability mage timewarp [Time Warp]. Additionally, Beast Mastery Hunters with Core hound pets will be able to cast Spell shadow unholyfrenzy [Ancient Hysteria], which functions similarly to Bloodlust.
  • When Bloodlust is used in raids, it is usually good idea to dump all other CDs you have (Spell holy avenginewrath [Avenging Wrath], Ability hunter efficiency [Rapid Fire], Spell nature lightning [Arcane Power]...) at the same time, because in many cases it will result higher overall damage than using the cooldowns separately.

Patch changes

  • Wrath-Logo-Small Patch 3.1.0 (2009-04-14): Cooldown reduced to 5 minutes, but Sated now last 10 minutes.
