Blackrock Spire bosses

Blackrock Spire, also known as Castle of Blackhand, or simply BRS is a dungeon divided in two large sections, Upper and Lower Blackrock Spire. It's situated on the higher levels of Blackrock Mountain, and is inhabited by the Dark Horde - orcs, ogres and forest trolls led by Warchief Rend Blackhand - as well as their allies, the black dragonflight led by the son of Deathwing, Nefarian (also known by the name Blackwing and his alias, Lord Victor Nefarius).

Deep inside Upper Blackrock Spire is an instance portal leading into Blackwing Lair, where Nefarian makes his home. Players can get attuned to the raid, allowing access from outside of the instance, by doing a quest in Upper Blackrock Spire.

History

From the World Dungeons page on the official World of Warcraft Community Site:

The mighty fortress carved within the fiery bowels of Blackrock Mountain was designed by the master dwarf-mason, Franclorn Forgewright. Intended to be the symbol of Dark Iron power, the fortress was held by the sinister dwarves for centuries.

When the Horde first arrived in Azeroth, they invaded the upper portion of the Dark Iron's fortress in Blackrock Mountain, Blackrock Spire, and claimed it as their base of operations. They held it until Alliance forces routed the Horde from their capital, in one of the last major battles of the Second War.

From the World Dungeons page on the official World of Warcraft Community Site:

However, Nefarian - the cunning son of the dragon, Deathwing - had other plans for the great keep. He and his draconic minions took control of the upper Spire and made war on the dwarves' holdings in the mountain's volcanic depths. Realizing that the dwarves were led by the mighty fire elemental, Ragnaros - Nefarian vowed to crush his enemies and claim the whole of Blackrock mountain for himself.

Blackrock Spire, the site of arguably one of the most terrible battles ever to ravage Azeroth,[1] such as the Assault on Blackrock Spire.

It is also home to a ley line pattern of incredible martial potency.[1]

Upper and Lower Blackrock Spire also gain their names from real world rocky outlets off the coast of Saint Helena.

Icon-RPG This section contains information from the Warcraft RPG which is considered non-canon.

The RPG also gave a description of the Spire, although this seem to have retconned: Franclorn Forgewright built this grand fortress as the new home of the Dark Iron dwarves after their idiotic summoning of Ragnaros destroyed much of the mountain range. Nefarion, a dragon lieutenant, had other plans, and drove the dwarves to the dungeon in his attempt to seize the fortress. He and his forces cannot take the lower depths of the complex, as Ragnaros still wields power there.[2]
