History
−
10,000 years ago, during the reign of Night Elf Queen Azshara, there was an elite magic-using sect known as the Highborne, who dabbled in magics that many other elves considered heretical by drawing upon the power of the Well of Eternity. When the Well of Eternity imploded, sundering the world many Highborne were trapped in the blast, however as their bodies were so infused with magic they did not die but were twisted by the powers they had released. Assurance of their survival influenced through the limited though still quite powerful will of the Old Gods, Azshara and her followers were dragged down beneath the raging sea, cursed – transformed – they took on new shapes and became the hateful, serpentine Naga.

| name = The Brood of Onyxia
−
Naga only marginally resemble the noble race they once were. Their proud Kaldorei visages are warped and twisted. The naga are part night elf, part serpent, and some have evolved weird oceanic mutations. In this way, the race has developed an array of genetic variations and defenses, such as ink jets, tentacles, razor fins, venomous fangs, hardened barnacle carapaces and spined fists.

−

−
Naga serve their dark empress Azshara without question. Naga society is matriarchal, and the sexes have diverged radically, both mentally and physically, in the millennia of their estrangement. Women are dominant and often train as spellcasters, while men form the brute labor force and serve their women as physical warriors.

−

−
Naga are avaricious and sadistic, and their millennia of aquatic banishment has only intensified their evil, power-hungry nature.

When the Naga awakened, they set about building a new life for themselves on the ocean depths, within the abyssal sea trench beneath the swirling waters of the Maelstrom they built their new city, Nazjatar. Azshara herself expanded with hate and rage, becoming a massive monstrosity, reflecting the wickedness and malice that had always hidden within her core.

There in the depths of the ocean for ten thousand years the Naga plotted their revenge against the Night Elves. Most Naga are still content to wait. However, a small group lead by the Naga Sea Witch, Lady Vashj, answered a summons from Illidan Stormrage to aid him in his quest to destroy the Frozen Throne. They made new allies in the form of their Highborne kin the Blood Elves as well as enemies of the Night Elves and the Alliance, they aided him in the recovering of the Eye of Sargeras, and fought with the Blood Elves to take Outland as well as at the Icecrown Glacier against the Scourge. After suffering defeat at the hands of Arthas this group retreated back to Outland with Illidan.

More recently Naga have begun to reappear around the coasts of the world, creating settlements of the land most noticeably in the ruins of their old cities in Azshara. It also seems that some have made fort in Northrend, in the Riplash Ruins. Whether these are Lady Vashj's forces or another sect entirely is unknown.

The Naga pray to the deity known as the Keeper of the Storms, because in the Warcraft III Frozen Throne Campaign map Night Elf number four an in-game secret on the right corner of the Naga base reveals a Keeper of the Storms Shrine. It says the player has found a secret area. In the same map, behind the Naga base in the top of the map is a garden with Grank the Rat inside. This implies Naga culture creates gardens.

Males and Females
−
Naga males and females have different features; in their transformation, males lost some of their intelligence but increased in size and strength. Their faces now appear almost draconic with little resemblence to their Elven heritage. Females kept more of their Elven features and their intelligence. Naga female faces are fair, even beautiful. However, this is offset by the multiple arms that many have, and the heads full of snakes that some have.

The Naga have very few allies on the land. The Horde are dismissed as weakling savages, practitioners of Divine Magic, and the Naga will have no part with them.

The Naga, particularly the females, come right out of Hindu mythology, here on Earth. The legends reference Naga living high atop mountains and deep in caverns, but the majority of them live... in underwater cities, where races of enslaved fish-people serve the Naga, whose prowess in sorcery is surpassed only by the gods themselves. The Naga and their females, the Nagini, took many forms: human-headed serpents, multi-headed serpents, humans with the heads of serpents, and of course, a serpent with the head and torso of a human.

Objectives

Draz'Zilb in Brackenwall Village wants you to destroy 5 Eggs of Onyxia.

Description

Onyxia's brood has been scattered across the Dragonmurk. It is imperative that no more whelps be permitted to hatch.

Make haste to Wyrmbog in the south of Dustwallow Marsh. Surely, she has made her lair there. Track down the evil dragon's eggs and destroy them.

We will never reclaim Stonemaul Village if the surrounding area remains a breeding ground.

As for Mok'Morokk... I have other plans for the sod.

Completion

Splendid! It will be sometime before Onyxia can produce more eggs.

On behalf of my people, I thank you, <name>.

I have asked much of you so far. Perhaps you can do the Stonemaul Clan one last service.

Mok'Morokk is not fit to lead us. Tharg would make an excellent leader but is hindered by his injuries and age. Drive Mok'Morokk from this place by force. Only then can we appoint a new leader to return us to our proper home in the south.

Gains

Upon completion of this quest you will gain:

 • 4850 XP (or 34s 50c at max level)

Quest chain

This quest is part of a chain.

For some players, finding the nests where the eggs lay is a bit difficult:

For any coordinates add-on user, the coordinates for the eggs are around 50,74.

For other players: facing out of Onyxia's Lair, head south and a little east, towards somewhat a crater. The eggs are in smoking stacks, and are guarded by level 42-45 Dragonspawns which were formerly elite but are now normal mobs. There are 2-4 eggs in each stack.
