Mord'Rethar

Mord'rethar: The Death Gate.

Mord'rethar: The Death Gate is the first line of defense used by the Scourge in Icecrown. Its gate and walls are made almost entirely of saronite, near indestructible, and manned by massive Scourge constructs.[1] Behind this gate lies the Valley of Lost Hope.

History[]

Wrath of the Lich King[]

Wrath-Logo-Small This section concerns content related to Wrath of the Lich King.

During the war against the Lich King, Horde forces dishonorably attacked Alliance forces who were busy fighting the Scourge at the Broken Front and trying to capture this gate.[2]

As the sole way for any kind of force to invade Icecrown Citadel would be to breach these gates (including Aldur'thar: The Desolation Gate and Corp'rethar: The Horror Gate) in turn,[3] the efforts of the death knights of the Ebon Blade Thassarian and Koltira Deathweaver working with the Alliance and the Horde was what allowed them to pass these defenses.[1]

They sent adventurers to sabotage Mord'rethar, which involved killing Pustulent Horrors and throwing their spines into plague cauldrons to turn the plague into corrosive acid, as the latter is better for the troops than the first according to the death knights,[4] as well as taking out Coprous the Defiled, a powerful zombie.[5] Once all the missions were completed, they deemed the assault by the allied armies on the gate to be doable, and sent the adventurers to Aldur'thar: The Desolation Gate.

Shadowlands[]

Shadowlands This section concerns content related to Shadowlands.

Following the destruction of the Helm of Domination by Sylvanas Windrunner, and with it the reign of the Lich King Bolvar Fordragon, the Cult of the Damned congregated at Mord'rethar under the control of Herald Dalora, a Mawsworn servant of Zovaal the Jailer.[6]

Consequently, Crusader Renn of the Argent Crusade sent adventurers of both factions to survey Mord'rethar with the help of Fizzix Blastbolt, and they reported that the area was well protected and filled with undead.[7] They were later sent to investigate inside with cultist disguises, and after they discovered the existence of Herald Dalora and "the Banished One",[8] they sabotaged the barrels of plague in Mord'rethar.[9]
