Rexxar1

Rexxar

Grikka

Grikka, a female member of the Mok'Nathal.

The Mok'Nathal ("The Sons of Nath") Template:Cite is a clan originally from the planet Draenor. The clan consists of mostly half-ogres, but apparently has members of other races as wellTemplate:Cite. The clan is near defunct, and apparently Rexxar was one of the only remaining left on Azeroth. They have a last remaining spot in Outland - in Mok'Nathal Village in eastern Blade's Edge Mountains.

It had been thought that mok'nathal half-ogres had been extinct on Azeroth, but after Rexxar's exploits on Azeroth, mok'nathal are showing up again. There is only a hundred to two hundred that exist in the world.

All of these people, with the exception of Rexxar, can be found in Mok'Nathal Village in the Blade's Edge Mountains. Rexxar is located at nearby Thunderlord Stronghold.

Outside of World of Warcraft

Other named half-ogres who may or may not be Mok'Nathal include Mag Bearmaul, Tagar Bearclaw, Gorsh Talonfang, Maxx Rocmane, Gaz Boartusk, Mok Rocksnout, and Gish Eagle Eye. They are Beastmasters that can be hired from Mercenary camps in The Frozen Throne. Horde player's guide confirms them to be half-ogres, and they would be mok'nathal by use of orcish terminology, although not necessarily members of the Mok'Nathal Clan.

History

How the Mok'Nathal came to Azeroth at all is unknown. It isn't likely that they were brought by Gul'dan. Some, like Rexxar, might have been in the ranks of the Horde but were not in large numbers so went unnoticed.

The novel Cycle of Hatred Rexxar is described to as "the last of the Mok'Nathal Clan", if further says that he was "Born of orc and ogre blood both, as most of his now-defunct clan..."(DeCandido)Template:Cite. This can imply several things, that he is one of the last of the Mok'Nathal clan, and/or he may have been one of the last half-ogres of the clan, though maybe not one of the last half-ogres. The Burning Crusade references the Mok'Nathal Clan as well, such as in Inv jewelry ring 17 [Mok'Nathal Clan Ring].

Name Meaning

Leoroxx, Rexxar's father, states that "being born a half-breed does not make you Mok'Nathal", implying that being Mok'Nathal is not a racial designation, but rather a philosophy. It may also be related to the fact that not all Mok'Nathal are half-ogres.Template:Cite

The Horde Player's Guide implies that "mok'nathal"(lower-case) is the Orcish term and honorific for "half-ogre", while half-ogre is the Common name for the race.Template:Cite

Languages

Mok'nathal usually speak Common or Low-Common, the language of their ogre parents. Their ogre progenitors used to be part of the Horde, and some learn the languages of those cultures.Template:Cite
