Using this item starts a 20 minute cooldown on this trinket, and a 1 minute cooldown on other guardian pet trinkets (such as the other mechanical dragonling type trinkets, Defender of the Timbermaw, etc). This means that there is still some value in keeping older dragonling trinkets after creating new ones.
As of Patch 2.4, the Engineering combat pets no longer scale with the user's Engineering skill. A Mithril Mechanical Dragonling will always be a Level 50 creature. As partial compensation, the cooldown on this trinket was reduced to 20 minutes (down from an hour).
As of Patch 2.4.3, these pets may once again scale with user's Engineering skill.
