Maurin Bonesplitter is a Forsaken quest giver located in Ghost Walker Post in Desolace.

History[]

One of the few undead inhabitants there, Maurin possesses advanced knowledge of ancient lore and is filled with contempt for the Burning Blade, lamenting their ignorance and their inability to comprehend that their power only stems from those whom they serve. He is a powerful spellcaster in his own right and has extensive knowledge of the Burning Blade operations. This knowledge earned him his current position in Desolace, as he was appointed by Keldran to hamper the Burning Blade effort and eventually eliminate the cult from the region.

After the Cataclysm, the Cenarion Circle drew on his expertise to destroy the Slitherblade naga that invaded the coast.

This article or section includes speculation, observations or opinions possibly supported by lore or by Blizzard officials. It should not be taken as representing official lore.

Maurin Bonesplitter is specifically responsible for the use of Burning Gems to trap the souls of Burning Blade cultists. It has been argued, however, that the cruel nature of Burning Gems was probably justified as it clearly demonstrated to all other races that the Horde would never show any sympathy or remorse to those worshipping the Burning Legion, thus proving that there were no ties between the Horde and the Burning Blade. From this point of view, it can be argued that Maurin Bonesplitter's mission was a success, although there is clearly still a need for a more permanent solution of the Burning Blade issue. Despite the malicious nature of the Burning Gems, their use, while successful, was most probably intended as a purely punitive measure, as its impact on the overall composition and effort of the Burning Blade in Desolace was highly marginal, casting doubts on the competence of Maurin Bonesplitter or possibly even on his allegiance. In fact, many[citation needed]  have remarked that Maurin's deference to the Warchief and the Horde are exaggerated enough to possibly warrant an investigation into his true motives and loyalties.
