The Black Knight's Fall concludes the secondary quest chain of the Argent Tournament starting with either Quest:The Black Knight of Westfall? or Quest:The Black Knight of Silverpine? Players are required to reach the rank of Champion by completing Quest:A Champion Rises (Alliance) / (Horde) before Crusader Rhydalla will offer this quest.

Objectives

Defeat the Black Knight and then speak to Crusader Rhydalla at the Argent Tournament Grounds.

  • The Black Knight slain

Description

We must put an end to the Black Knight's scheming, and show those who oppose us that we will not stand by and allow our champions to be murdered.

By now, he will suspect that someone is on his trail. Challenge him in the light of day, where he cannot refuse or murder in the dark, <name>.

Use my argent charger for the battle. It's housed in the stables.

Speak to Squire Cavin at the Ring of Champions. The squire will call the Black Knight to battle, but you will make him answer for his crimes.

Rewards

You will be awarded with the achievement Money achievement It's Just a Flesh Wound.

Progress

Is it done?

Completion

With the death of the Black Knight, the tournament may once again serve its purpose. The champions of the Horde and Alliance may demonstrate their skill at arms and train for the day when Arthas and his minions will no longer threaten us.

You have the thanks of the Argent Crusade, <name>, and that of all who have answered our call.

Notes

Squire Calvin is on the northern side of the Ring of Champions at the center.

When Crusader Rhydalla directs you to: "Use my argent charger for the battle," she means use the Stabled Argent Warhorse (both Alliance and Horde) on the east end of the stable next to The Ring of Champions. You must use this rather than your regular champion faction's mount.

The Black Knight comes in on an ebon gryphon but stays on the ground during the fight. He does not keep up stacks of Defend, but instead hits very hard. Charges hit for 11,900 before mitigation (1700 against a 3-stack of Defend). He prefers to attack from range, so stay inside the Black Knight's Charge range while refreshing the mount's Defend stacks.

Attacking the Black Knight with Thrust causes 3250 damage, Shield-Breaker for 2000 and Charge for 8500, so move quickly before he takes the Argent Charger out. If your mount is defeated you still may be able to kill him on foot.

When his health gets low he will dismount and call you out to hand-to-hand combat. Do not dismount yourself, but wait until he finishes speaking and you are dismounted automatically. (If you dismount, he will run to the center of the ring, then vanish.) Equip your normal weapons and continue the duel.

Occasionally he will be killed before he has a chance to dismount. This still counts as a kill for the quest.

On telling Calvin that they are prepared for the quest:

Squire Cavin yells: <Name> challenges the Black Knight to trial by combat!
Squire Cavin says: Good luck, <name>.
The Black Knight says: Enough of this insolence! Prepare to die!

On the Black Knight dismounting:

The Black Knight yells: Get off that horse and fight me man-to-man!
The Black Knight yells: I will not fail you, master!
