The first friendly tribe of murlocs in the game.
The Winterfins are currently led by King Mrgl-Mrgl, who took over as their king after the previous leader was lost. King Mrgl-Mrgl is not a murloc himself, but a night elf in a murloc suit who earned the trust of the Winterfins by posing as one of them. Mrmrglmr has discovered the truth about the new "king", but is willing to keep the secret in exchange for Mrgl-Mrgl (and those in his employ) helping the Winterfins. While some of the other Winterfins suspect something about their new king is fishy, they don't know exactly what.
The Winterfins value clams above all other objects, and unopened clams are used as currency in their society.
Unfortunately for the tribe, an evil lobstrok named Claximus has been terrorizing them. He has stolen their children ("tadpoles"). Many of the adult murlocs who went after Claximus in the Winterfin Caverns succumbed to magical emanations from Coldarra; this has affected their minds and allowed Claximus to enslave them. This has touched off a civil war between the unaffected murlocs and those under the sway of Claximus.
The orca of Glimmer Bay present a threat to the tribe, preying upon the murlocs. The murlocs also hunt the orca for food.
Underworld Minions
- Location: Darkspear Islands near Maelstrom (coastal, subterranean)
This tribe of murlocs worshiped a Ghost Sea Witch. The tribe used to have an underground lair, but it collapsed when Thrall escaped their dungeon. These were the first murlocs introduced (chronologically) into the Warcraft Universe. Surprisingly, other members of the Underworld Minions included ghosts, golems, spiders, skeletons, gnolls, salamanders, and sludges.
These are the units found in the Warcraft 3 campaign called "Exodus of the Horde" that served as the demo for Warcraft 3: Reign of Chaos. It was later re-released as a Warcraft 3: Frozen Throne campaign file.
