He is working on a teleporter, and wears a yellow shirt and goggles. He is clearly an homage to Lt. Cmdr. Geordi LaForge, the chief engineer of the U.S.S. Enterprise D in the Star Trek universe. He even has yellow goggles, perhaps a homage to his Star Trek counterpart's V.I.S.O.R.
