A main spec (often abbreviated to MS) refers to a role a player is normally performing, as opposed to off spec. Common features of the main spec is that the talents are more thoughtfully chosen, that the corresponding equipment set is composed of items which is of a higher quality than the off spec, that the player is more aware of the game mechanics which the role makes use of and that the player is simply better at playing it.
