Nature's Swiftness is a Shaman ability from the Restoration tree. This ability, when activated, causes the next nature spell with a casting time less than 10 sec to be instant. For example, activating Nature's Swiftness and then casting [Greater Healing Wave] results in an instant heal without that spell's normal 2.5 second casting time. The ability is mainly used to allow for instant heals in emergency situations, although it can also be used for burst damage or to benefit from the various other advantages that come with instant cast spells.
Notes
After activating Nature's Swiftness, you gain a buff indicating that the next cast will be instant. This buff will remain indefinitely until the effect is used, or until the player dies. The two minute cooldown will not begin until this buff is consumed. This buff can be dispelled or stolen. Using instant cast spells or non-nature spells while the buff is active does not consume it, although it is highly recommended that you do not activate the ability until just before using the spell you want to make instant cast. Activating Nature's Swiftness does not cause a global cooldown, although the spell that is made instant cast still does. Since instant cast spells can be cast while moving, Nature's Swiftness has the secondary effect of allowing you to use a casting time spell while moving.
The only notable spells that can not be used with Nature's Swiftness are [Lava Burst] (as it's a fire spell), [Astral Recall] and Ancestral Spirit (shaman ability) (as they have ten second base casting times). These exceptions apply even if the spells' casting times are reduced below ten seconds, as the limitation is based on the unmodified casting time of the spells.
Note that the shaman version of Nature's Swiftness has a shorter cooldown than the druid version. The druid version increases the effectiveness of the spell by 50%, however, which the shaman version does not. The identical names are a relic from the time when the two spells worked the same way and had the same cooldown.
Tips and tactics
- Make a macro to use Nature's Swiftness with [Greater Healing Wave], allowing you to cast an instant heal in an emergency with a single keystroke.
- Nature's Swiftness can be used with [Ghost Wolf] to escaping faster. This only applies if you do not have the [Nature's Swiftness] talent, as Ghost Wolf is otherwise instant anyway.
- Making a spell instant can be an effective way to avoid counterspell effects and pushback in PvP, as instant cast spells cannot be interrupted.
- It is not recommended to use Nature's Swiftness together with [Healing Surge] or [Healing Wave] once you have learned the [Greater Healing Wave] spell, as GHW heals for more.
