Dragon Aspects (aka Great Aspects[1], Aspects of Azeroth[2] or simply Aspects) are leaders of five dragonflight empowered by the titans.
Selection
The Dragon Aspects were created by the titans from the dragon known as Galakrond.[3] The titans empowered the five dragons, each with specific powers, to lead the dragonflights and watch over Ancient Kalimdor and its evolution[4] (at the time, the sole continent of Azeroth). According to legend, when the Aspects were first created, the moons had been in a rare conjunction known as the Embrace. A repeat of this same alignment was is crucial to the proper working of the magic necessary to facilitate the alteration of a normal dragon into an Aspect.[5] It is impossible to select a new Aspect or even even try to call a new one, as long as the current one lives.[6]
Powers and Duties
Aspects are more then just dragons with different skills and extra powers. When the titans blessed all of them - including later Kalecgos - they gave them insights and other ways of understanding things. They are more than dragons. Until the creation of Chromatus barring other Aspects, no single dragon was able to defeat one.[7] Although they are parts of a whole and were never meant to be separate, they are also complete unto themselfs as well.[8]
When the titans departed they said to the Aspects "unto each of you was given a gift; unto all of you is given the duty"[9] Their one true duty was to prevent the Hour of Twilight at all costs.
After the death of Deathwing the Dragon Aspects have fulfilled their duty. Their ancient powers have been expended and are now mortals.[10]

Deceased Aspects

- Deathwing the Destroyer, formerly Neltharion the Earth Warder
- The mighty black wyrm chosen by Khaz'goroth and given dominion over the earth and the deep places of the world. He was driven mad by the whisperings of the Old Gods and managed to drive the blue dragonflight to near extinction. Slain by Thrall, heroes and the other Aspects at the Maelstrom.
The Aspects in World of Warcraft
All of the Aspects appear in one form or another:
- Malygos was the first Aspect confirmed to appear in WotLK. He is the boss of the Eye of Eternity within the Nexus, the homebase of the blue dragonflight, on the island of Coldarra in the Borean Tundra. Malygos leads his dragonflight in a war against all mortal spellcasters, believing that magic was running amok throughout the world because of mortals' reckless use of its powers.[12] Malygos can be killed by players, thus making him the first of the Dragon Aspects to die.
- Alexstrasza appears in humanoid form at the Wyrmrest Temple in Dragonblight. The red dragonflight appears to be at the forefront in defending the mortal races in the Nexus War against Malygos and the blue dragonflight, both in keeping with their charge to preserve life and honoring Alexstrasza's agreement with Rhonin that the races of those who had freed her from the Dragonmaw clan would not come to harm. Alexstrasza aids the players in the battle against Malygos in the Eye of Eternity. She also appears at Angrathar the Wrathgate after the conclusion of the [Veteran of the Wrathgate] quest chain. She also appears to aid the adventurers in Twilight Highlands in the battles against Deathwing and the Twilight's Hammer.
- Ysera appears at the Emerald Dragonshrine in Dragonblight. Lord Itharius, brother of her consort Eranikus, has been sent as her ambassador to Alexstrasza's Wyrmrest Accord. She also directs the efforts against the Twilight's Hammer and their elemental masters on Mount Hyjal.
- Nozdormu appears briefly during Quest:Mystery of the Infinite at the Bronze Dragonshrine. Chronormu (alias Chromie) is Nozdormu's ambassador to the Wyrmrest Accord.
- Deathwing appears (as Neltharion) in humanoid form in a flashback in the Prison of Yogg-Saron in Ulduar, during a vision showing the creation of the Dragon Soul. He made his return in World of Warcraft: Cataclysm as the main antagonist, and is third of the Dragon Aspects to die. Nalice is Deathwing's ambassador to the Wyrmrest Accord.
