Forums: Village pumpWarcraft games Secret maps of World of Warcraft
(This is a dead topic, Please do not edit this page!)

As you all know, the minimap textures show the terrain way better than the normal maps, but extracting them has 2 problems:

  • 1-They are separated in squares of 256x256, and you need to gather the pieces and put them together in order to get the complete map.
  • 2-They are named in ways you can't know where they belong, so you have to open them one by one and try figure where they belong.

I had a bit of time this summer to do that, and so, made this 6 (7) maps. I've uploaded them to my user page for a project, but, since I haven't decided yet how to elaborate on it, I want to share them with you.

I'm sure most of you haven't seen them before, less in this quality. Here you have:

  • Image:Verdant_Fields_Map.jpg|Verdant Fields Map (deleted as WP:DNP)
  • Image:Emerald_Forest.jpg|Emerald Forest Map (deleted as WP:DNP)
  • Image:Emerald_Dream_Canyon_Map.jpg|Emerald Dream Canyon Map (deleted as WP:DNP)
  • Image:Emerald_Dream_Canyon_Map_(full).jpg|Emerald Dream Canyon full Map (deleted as WP:DNP)
  • Image:Old_Outland_Map.jpg|Old Outland Map (deleted as WP:DNP)

The first three (four) are from the Emerald Dream, the second two are two isles removed from Alpha and the third final one is the old design of Outland.

Hope you like them Winky. I'm really proud for the last one, Old Outland. I worked pretty hard on it, but I loved doing so, since I never saw the zone in-game by myself.--Lon-ami (talk) 16:14, September 4, 2009 (UTC)

Lon-ami, please read Wowpedia:DNP policy#Datamined or unreleased content, and speculation, Wowpedia:DNP policy#Exploits, and Wowpedia:Image guidelines#Model viewer screenshots. Emerald Dream images have been removed before, and a page called "Original Outland" was removed for being DNP. The isles near Stranglethorn Vale may be DNP, but some maps show their outline and the name shows up if you swim there, so I am not sure.--SWM2448 17:30, September 4, 2009 (UTC)
Ah, ok, sorry, didn't remember that >_<. For the Alpha content, they were open in the Alpha, so no problem at all. Sorry :S.--Lon-ami (talk) 19:21, September 4, 2009 (UTC)
It also says "Certain pieces of unannounced content may be exempt from this for reasons of extreme notoriety and importance, which will be up to an administrator's judgment. Note that Blizzard Entertainment has final say on what content can be shown." However, I do not know if "extreme notoriety and importance" is defined anywhere, and "an administrator's judgment" often equates to wheel wars. We need a more detailed rule. The Blizzard comment has to do with the End-User License Agreement, the Terms of Use Agreement, and scary emails. We need to follow these if WoWWiki is to stay an official fan site.--SWM2448 20:51, September 4, 2009 (UTC)
