Forums: Village pumpWarcraft lore Playable High elves
(This topic is archived. Please do not edit this page!)

Hi! first time poster here. I was just wondering how many people would want High elves to be playable? I really would but most people think that blood elves are as close as we are going to get.

The way I see it we have 3 elf races.
The Fel elves ( Blood )
The Hippy elves ( Night )
The noble elves ( High )

I have seen countless threads on the world of war craft forums about people wanting high elves but they seem to be drowned out by the screaming people that simply don't want another elf race.

Also What is Blizzard doing with this race? I mean they aren't playable but they are getting more and more spotlight slowly overtime, If they wanted to kill them off why are there so many of them? Do you think they are just waiting for something?

Some random Questions too.

  • Do High elves have spellbreakers? I have never/seen heard of one.
  • Do High elves have blood mages or is that blood elves only?
  • Do you think High elves deserve a notable lore hero that isn't dead or missing?
  • Even if they don't become playable should they still have a city? I was reading the Blood elf page and it says the other half of silvermoon is still in ruins haunted by the ghosts of the High elves, maby they are saveing it for the high elves?

The high elves have a very distinct and persistent fanbase. I am not part of that group, but I think because of it Blizzard my be giving players things like the Silver Covenant as the next best thing. They also are part of the Alliance "identity". I do not think high elves have spell breakers or blood mages. High elves are likely not getting a capital that is literally next door to a Horde capital.--SWM2448 22:38, January 12, 2010 (UTC)
Never gonna happen. High elves look the EXACT SAME as we blood elves which would cause a great deal of fuss. Throw on a pair of goggles and you're the exact same. Even if they looked differently, there are very, very, very few high elves left in the world due to Prince Arthas killing off 90% of them and Kael'thas leading 90% of the survivors into becoming blood elves. Honestly, I love high elves too and all, but the idea of them becoming playable is hilarious to anybody who knows Quel'Thalas' lore. Why woulden't they have spellbrakers? Didden't the whole Blood elf movement happen dureing WC3? Spellbrakers were in WC3, also some random questions.

Why do the High elves use the phoenix symbol? I thought this was kael'thas rebirth of the blood elves I thought High elf symbol was a Quel'dori horse or something?

Would you roll a High elf you they were playable? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Leon1989 (talk · contr).

The high elves never had spell breakers. Their military was composed of rangers, sorcerers, priests, and footmen. Curse of the Blood Elves occurred during The Frozen Throne. The high elves do not use the phoenix symbol. You're thinking of blood elves. And I would never roll a high elf. They are traitors to Quel'Thalas. You can clearly see the phoenix symbol on the High elf tent in the argent tournament —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Leon1989 (talk · contr).

O.o High Elves are the traitors? Cause they didn't follow an egotistical maniac so hurt by his failures with Jaina that he felt he had to prove he was as great as Arthas the "Lich King". Blood Elves should disband now that his taint has been removed and welcome the pure High Elves back into Quel'thalas. Actually, i propose a trade, Blood Elfs (into High Elfs) for Worgen. Those traiturous dogs should never have been allowed back into the Alliance, besides, all the screen shots? They look so much like Horde... Kael'thas is not the only reason why blood elves are blood elves. Now I grant you, Kael was a pivotal part of the blood elves' current state, but just because he is dead does not mean things will change. Thanks to Kael's meddling, blood elves - even with the restoration of the Sunwell - are, for all intents and purposes, magi-crack addicts. (And some are thistleheads, too, but that's besides the point.) And they're arrogant little snobs on top of it - and those are just the ones trying to be friendly with you.
And even with their fount of magic restored, it's not like they're just going to become model citizens, stop using fel magic (try telling that to a blood elf warlock, he'd probably incinerate you on the spot), kiss and make up with their high elven cousins, and go along their merry way. Hell, the high elves would just as soon shoot a blood elf dead as look at him. Ye gods, it's a miracle Dalaran isn't a shooting gallery.
As to the use of the phoenix by the Silver Covenant on their banners (i.e. the Argent Tournament, the FP in Crystalsong Forest, so on): Maybe the phoenix is not a purely blood elf symbol, but rather a Thalassian symbol - one venerated by high elves and blood elves alike. Symbol of rebirth and all that. --Joshmaul (talk) 06:37, January 19, 2010 (UTC)
Perhaps the high elves aren't inside WoW just because they have the blood elves, which were high elves...or maybe they are going to release high elves in like the 4th expansion pack...who knows?--Rollersox (talk) 04:48, February 16, 2010 (UTC)
Highly unlikely they'll add yet another elf playable race. Now I'm not going to say they're too few in number (even though they are), cause bliz has done stranger things anyway. SnakeSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3For Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 20:33, February 17, 2010 (UTC)
They would look and act much alike to blood elves. Whtever factioned they joined would instantly be overplayed. It probably won't ever happen. But then again, look at the draenei. When they first appeared, people were wondering how it would work out but now they're just another race. BobNamataki (talk) 17:47, February 21, 2010 (UTC)
Blood Mages were unique to the Blood Elves, as their arcane abilities were enhanced by Fel Energies. Also, just because the emblem on the Silver Covenant banners is a bird does not necessarily make it a Pheonix. It could easily be a falcon or eagle. In fact, it's very possible that such an emblem was used prior to the Blood Elves, and the the Blood Elves adopted a Pheonix in the place of the eagle, or something like that. @ Sabreth

But still, Lorewiese, there are 25,000 High Elves left, which is more then the 9,500 Darkspear Trolls. And, The High Elves aren't traitors to Quel'Thalas. The Blood Elves are. They kicked out the High Elves who owned the land for thousands of years. Kigaauuimp879 (talk) 19:20, February 21, 2010 (UTC)

There are only three "problems" that prevent the High Elves being a playable race today. And those issues are:

  • "There are too many races of elves, this is not World of Elvencraft"
  • "There are too few high elves, so they cannot be playable"
  • "The Blood Elves are practically identical to the High Elves"
First ‘problem’. Currently there are already two races of elves in the game, so with the addition of the high elves there would be three races of elves. Are too many elves? In any role playing game there are a variety of subspecies of elves, so, three races of elves would not be a novelty. In addition, the elves in the Warcraft world are like the "fathers" of many races as they come from them. In short, in the end this would not create any problem really.
Second 'problem'. There are not so few high elves as is thought. Let's see: the Scourge of the Lich King killed 90% of the high elves of Quel'talas, 90% of survivors were self-proclaimed Blood Elves and abandoned the alliance, and a lot of those blood elves followed his Prince Kael'thas while the rest stayed in Silvermoon and allied with the Horde. Then we can say that, more or less, there are almost the same amount of high elves that blood elves. Besides, how many goblins fit on a boat? and how many of these goblins survive a shipwreck?, because those are the ones who will become the new playable race. So Blizzard does not care how many people of one race remain to make it playable.
Third ‘problem’. There are substantial differences between the blood elves and the high elves due to the demonic magic that blood elves contain. Some differences are physical (eyes, ears, skin tone, voice tone, hair color), other psychological (temperament, patience, aggression) and other cultural (hairstyles, colors of its buildings and clothes, colloquialisms). Of course we cannot see these differences in game yet, in fact, most high elves in the game are living in buildings of the night elves, and Blizzard seems not to care. My honest opinion is that they won't make a High Elf playable race because it truly would be all-but identicle to Blood Elves. The excuse of supposed remaining High Elves is a poor excuse, as Blizzard has already shown that it doesn't care how many of a race supposedly remains with the Darkspear Trolls, the Blood Elves, the Goblins, the Worgen, etc. Let's face it, on some servers, there are probably almost more Foresaken then there are Scourge. (Okay, slight exaggeration). Just because a part of Blood Elf society accepts the practice of Fel magic, it's not welcomed by the entirety. I'm sure the Priests, and now the Paladins of the Light aren't huge fans of demons walking about the city. The rangers, also, I'm sure distrust the warlocks heavily. The biggest differences between Blood Elves and High Elves is that the Blood Elves followed their monarch, and out of desperation, sought alternate sources of arcane power. The High Elves, on the otherhand, sided with former Allies, abandoning the rest of their people, and attempted to deal with the addiction in their own way.
By and large, the two factions are still the same race, for now. In the timeline, it hasn't even been a generation since they were literally the same race. Physically, they are still the same race. It would be like saying the Mag'har and the playable orc races are different races. The biggest differences between them are idiological.NocturnalAbyss (talk) 11:30, April 16, 2010 (UTC)

I think adding High elves wouldn't be a bad idea. High elves have been a longtime favorite of the WoW community. With the inclusion of the Pandaren, the ideology that because they have the same model as the Blood elves is now pointless. Also, Metzen suggested that Alleria and Turalyon are going to make a return, so that alone makes the High elves even more viable as a playable race. They could have different models as a different model does't suddenly change your race. An idea for the starting zone would be the starting point of the Scourge Invasion, and it ends with you going to Stormwind with Jaina after Rommath returns and explains how to "mana tap" living creatures (which High elves found disgusting). Or, their starting zone and capital could be in the Northern Lordaeron area that is currently unaccessible. The lore says that a number of High elves took refuge there after the Scourge Invasion; a very vague number. This could also give the opportunity of a different type of architecture for them as well. cmats4020 (talk) 00:01, September 30, 2013 (UTC)
