The Eye of Dalaran was a source of magic for the human nation of Dalaran. The Eye guarded their borders and allowed a secure environment for the magocratic nation. When the Horde invaded the city, the Eye was spirited away, but brought back when they rebuilt the city.

According to Warcraft II: Beyond the Dark Portal, Teron Gorefiend was able to steal the Eye from Dalaran for Ner'zhul to use in the creation of his dimensional gateways. Ner'zhul never recieved the Eye however,[citation needed]  and because of this Draenor was destroyed. The Eye's fate thereafter is unknown.
