The Shade of Eranikus

The attack of the Temple of Atal'Hakkar

After Ysera, the Dragon Aspect of the Emerald Dream, had learned of the Atal'ai's plans to summon Hakkar, she caused an earthquake to sink the Temple of Atal'Hakkar below water, attempting to destroy the Atal'ai Trolls in order to stop their attempt to awaken the Soulflayer. The Atal'ai Trolls survived the sundering of the temple and resumed their efforts to awaken Hakkar.

The great Emerald Wyrm Eranikus, was dispatched by Ysera herself to deal with the growing troll threat in the Swamp of Sorrows - a highly unusual action for the flight, but a great threat to the natural order. He is the Patriarch of the large and powerful brood, on the right claw of Ysera herself. Eranikus has 4 young but fit and eager drakes under his direct command - Dreamscythe, Weaver, Hazzas and Morphaz - who themselves command a huge army of Emerald Dragonspawn and whelps. Eranikus' brood rained down upon the Temple of Atal'Hakkar, killing hundreds of powerful and depraved trolls. But before the killing blow could be made, Eranikus was overcome with a lethargy and entered the emerald as creatures of the realm naturally do. But he entered atop the swirling chaos of the nightmare, by accident or design. Eranikus was overtaken with rage and possessed by the Old Gods in much the same way as Deathwing was by the 3 united Old Gods.

Suddenly, mortals broke into the Temple to contain the essence of Hakkar within the egg of Hakkar. The adventurers got amidst the fight between the Green Dragonflight and the Atal'ai Trolls. Although the heroes contained the essence of Hakkar, the shade of Eranikus was defeated by the mortals and was caught in the nightmare, corrupted by the Old Gods.

He now calls himself "Eranikus, Tyrant of the Dream" and seeks to destroy Moonglade and Malfurion along with it.

The Tyrant of the Dream

Recently, both Alliance and the Horde needed the the green scepter shard, which Anachronos had given him long ago, to open the Gates of Ahn'Qiraj. But Eranikus was in the corrupted Emerald Dream, twisted by the will of the Old Gods, brooding and yearning for revenge against Malfurion and the Cenarion Circle. So Malfurion sent an agent to Keeper Remulos in Moonglade. He planned to lure Eranikus into a trap, but it would require the recovery of four shards of the corrupted dream from each of the four dragon portals around the world.

After they were brought back to Keeper Remulos, the fragments were used to open a portal into the heart of the Dream, and Eranikus emerged over the Moonglade lake. With hundreds of people gathered to defend Moonglade, an epic battle was waged against dozens of Nightmare Phantasms that emerged from the portal as Eranikus hovered menacingly in the skies. As the phantasms were defeated, Eranikus landed to do the job himself. As the fight went on, Tyrande arrived from Darnassus with a half-dozen Priestesses of the Moon riding white tigers. They healed the army as it continued to rain blows on Eranikus, and Tyrande and Remulos fought against him side-by-side. As he weakened further, Tyrande channelled the powers of Elune in a prayer to redeem the cursed dragon. He thrashed and resisted, but ultimately the light of Elune overcame him. He suddenly ceased fighting. The dragon vanished, and in its place lay a crumpled night-elf on the ground.

Eranikus, the Redeemed

He stood up and haltingly apologized for all the harm he had wrought, and left to attempt to begin to make amends for his actions. Before leaving, however, he entrusted one of the mortals with the green scepter shard that Anachronos had given him long ago. He returns to Furion, Cenarius and Ysera to continue the battle raging within the Emerald Dream.
