[Empowered Fireball] is a mage talent that increases [Fireball]'s spell damage bonus by 3% per rank, up to 15% at rank 5. Fireball normally has a spell damage bonus of 100% of total Fire spell damage. The bonus from the talent is additive, with rank 5 Empowered Fireball increasing the spell damage bonus to 115%. If the mage also has [Improved Fireball], the multiplicative spell damage penalty is applied after the Empowered Fireball bonus.

Notes

[Fireball]'s spell damage bonus is normally 100% of total fire spell damage. With Empowered Fireball and [Improved Fireball], the spell damage bonus is found with the following equation where X is the number of ranks in Empowered Fireball:

1 * (1 + 0.03X)

Remember, the 1 comes from the base casttime with 3.5 seconds divided by the default casting time coefficient 3.5.

Before Patch 2.3 the following equation was in use where X is the number of ranks in Empowered Fireball, and Y is the number of ranks in Improved Fireball:

(1 - 0.02Y)(1 + 0.03X)

Tips

Empowered Fireball is a direct damage increase to the [Fireball] spell, and is valuable in builds that use Fireball as a primary damage spell. It is most effective at later levels, when mages have a high amount of spell damage from gear.
