The Eastern Kingdoms is one of the continents which was formed from Azeroth's original single continent following the Great Sundering. It lays to the east of the Great Sea.
The Eastern Kingdom is actually made up of three sub-continents known as Azeroth, Khaz Moden, and Lordaeron(with possibly Quel'Thalas making up a 4th continent).
At various stages in the history of the game series, the Eastern Kingdoms, was referred to as Azeroth, though this usage has been retroactively changed, and that term is now used only to refer to the entire world, or the most southern continent of the eastern kingdoms. See the list of retcons for more details.
The central Eastern Kingdoms are dominated by the Khaz Mountains and the Redridge Mountains. Both cover several regions.
The Eastern Kingdoms include the regions of Lordaeron, Quel'Thalas, Khaz Modan, and Stormwind. They are the home of the Forsaken, Dwarves, Gnomes, Blood Elves, Humans and the few remaining High Elves.
An older map on the Blizzard web site shows the Eastern Kingdoms as divided into three main areas:
- Lordaeron (fallen human kingdom and primary homeland of the Forsaken)
- Khaz Modan (primary homeland of the dwarves)
- Stormwind (then called Azeroth, primary homeland of humans)
See a detailed map on WorldOfWar.net.
