Kraken, or krakken, are mighty aquatic minions of Neptulon the Tidehunter summoned by him from the Abyssal Maw in the Elemental Plane.[1][2] Two types of "kraken" appear to exist. The first type are giant squid-like creatures with tentacles.[3] The second type are more fish-like with giant fins and smaller in size.
Squid-like
In known history, the giant squid-like type has appeared three times:
- Once to destroy the Gurubashi Empire, as is told in The Fall of Gurubashi book.
- A second sighting came in the time anomaly, when one tried to grab Rhonin. This kraken was fifty feet in length.[3].
- The third one was when small group of naga tried to kill, or at least slow down Korialstrasz in his flight to Grim Batol.[4]
The giant squid-like type of kraken are older than mortal races, huge towers of power, so huge that "jungles of kelp swayed through their limbs, and leviathans swam through bodies". It is also told that "They remembered when the Old Ones ruled and when the Travelers came and cast them down. They remembered when magic was new." However, they still can be hurt by powerful magic.[5]
Ozumat
Ozumat is another version of the kraken[6] that is a huge squid-like creature with four eyes and eight appendages. Not much is known about it, although it may be related to merciless ones. It is possible that it is of the squid-like Krakken mentioned in troll legends. It likely that it is a servant of the Old Gods. Ozumat is the only one known of its kind.
Its model is called "Leviathan", but it is referenced in-game as a Kraken.
Fish-like
Some kraken are more fish-like with armored hides, giant fins, large mouths, dorsal spikes, and a horizontal tail reminiscent of whale flukes. It has scales, but does not appear to have visible gills. Little lore has been given about them.
Its model is called "Krakken", and it is referenced in-game as a Kraken.
