• Earned for defeating the most recent raid bosses or completing heroic Dungeon Finder runs and used to purchase the most powerful PvE armor and weapons.

Valor Points are the upper-level currency rewarded for participating in PvE encounters, typically the most-recent tier of raids. The lower-level PvE currency, rewarded from Heroic mode dungeons and older raids, is awarded in the form of [Justice Points]. Items sold for Valor Points are available from  Faldren Tillsdale in Stormwind City and  Jamus'Vaz in Orgrimmar.

Players can gain no more than 980 Valor Points per week total, and no more than 490 per week from pre-4.1 Heroic instances.

In patch 4.3.0, players will be able to earn a total of 1000 Valor Points in one week.

Patch 4.3 changes

We've made slight adjustments to the Valor Point (VP) drops on the 4.3 PTR which testers can now see. In both 10- and 25-player raids, bosses will now drop 100 VP each (down from 115 and 135 respectively). We’ll also be changing Firelands raid bosses to drop 50 VP per kill upon release of the patch.

This change is being made to further emphasize the desire to kill bosses for the items they drop. In the 4.3 raid, tier sets can only be earned from boss drops, and as Raid Finder will allow for just about anyone to get a chance to kill bosses, we think there will be less need for Valor overall. We want to try to match the lower desire for VP with a slightly slower acquisition rate.

Patch history

• Patch 4.3.0 (2011-11-29): New items added purchasable with Valor Points. Weekly cap raised to 1000.
  
• Patch 4.2.0 (2011-06-28): All current Valor Points converted to Justice Points. Each point above the 4000 Justice Points cap will be converted to gold at a rate of 47 per point. Old epic ilvl 359/"Valor" gear is now available from the Justice Points vendor at the same prices. Weekly valor cap reduced from 1250 to 980.
