“What is the Brotherhood of the Light? Well...We are all members of the Argent Crusade at the core - members of the Argent Crusade that aren't held in check by morals, guilt and useless human emotion.”

Korfax, Champion of the Light

The Brotherhood of the Light is a subsection of the former Argent Dawn's ranks, now the Argent Crusade. The Brotherhood of the Light is a compromise between the Argent Dawn's more scholarly approach to fighting the Scourge and the Scarlet Crusade's fanaticism. Talking to several members of this group reveals that they have a clearly different code of ethics and morals than their brethren of the Argent Dawn — while maintaining an objective view which the Scarlet Crusade loses with their zealotry. According to Korfax, the Brotherhood existed even before the Argent Dawn.[1]

History[]

World of Warcraft[]

WoW Icon update This section concerns content related to the original World of Warcraft.

The Brotherhood of the Light's representatives, Commander Eligor Dawnbringer, Korfax, Champion of the Light, and Archmage Angela Dosantos, were originally present in Light's Hope Chapel. As they were able to bridge a gap between the Scarlet Crusade and the Argent Dawn, Eligor managed to keep relations between them from turning violent, heading a meeting with Scarlet envoys led by Scarlet Commander Marjhan to counter an imminent attack from the Scourge.[2] To prevent this attack, the Brotherhood sent adventurers in Naxxramas to slay some of the Scourge's minions.[3]

Upon the fall of Kel'Thuzad, a false member of the Brotherhood collected Inv misc urn 01 [The Phylactery of Kel'Thuzad]. Later the Argent Dawn reported that they never received the phylactery,[4] as the traitor fled with Kel'Thuzad's cursed remains to Northrend, where the fallen lich could be reanimated.

Wrath of the Lich King[]

The Brotherhood of the Light was present during the Battle for Light's Hope Chapel, defending the chapel alongside the Argent Dawn against the Scourge and the Death knights of Acherus. Following the withdrawal of the Lich King, they witnessed the merger of the Argent Dawn and the Order of the Silver Hand as the Argent Crusade, under the command of Highlord Tirion Fordring.[5]

Some members of the Brotherhood were among the first to plunge into the Northrend campaign,[6] among them was Commander Eligor Dawnbringer who appeared at Wintergarde Keep in Dragonblight, instructing various 7th Legion troops about the inhabitants of Naxxramas,[2] and Korfax who appeared as the Crusade Commander of the Argent Crusade's troops at the Argent Stand in Zul'Drak.

Despite Inigo Montoy's treachery in the resurrection of Kel'Thuzad, who became the lich Thel'zan the Duskbringer for serving the Lich King as the traitor, the Brotherhood eventually triumphed over the Scourge in Northrend and returned to the Eastern Plaguelands.

Cataclysm[]

Cataclysm This section concerns content related to Cataclysm.

After the fall of the Lich King, the Brotherhood began their own campaign against the remaining Scourge and Risen forces in Lordaeron with an assault force of one hundred men; attempting to reclaim the cities of Stratholme and Tyr's Hand for the Argent Crusade. Though the Brotherhood and the Crusade are still allied with one another, the Argent Crusade is concerned with the Brotherhood's recklessness,[6][7] and their dislike to the Crusade's rigid code of ethics.[8][9]

Their campaign concludes with the capture of Tyr's Hand from the undead,[7] but also with the capture of the Scarlet Bastion and Alonsus Chapel now under the control of the Argent Crusade after the death of Balnazzar and Lord Aurius Rivendare.[2]

Legion[]

Legion This section concerns content related to Legion.

Following the death of Tirion Fordring during the Battle for Broken Shore, while not directly stated, the Brotherhood of Light was represented by Eligor Dawnbringer during the union ceremony of every paladin order on Azeroth into a restored Order of the Silver Hand.[10]
