Battlefield: Barrens
The subject of this article or section is part of Battlefield: Barrens, a world event that preceded the Siege of Orgrimmar during patch 5.3.0.

Battlefield: Barrens was a world event set in the Northern Barrens, taking place during patch 5.3.0. It involved the building conflict between Garrosh Hellscream and his loyal Kor'kron and the rebelling forces of Vol'jin's Darkspear Rebellion, with the assistance of adventurers from both the Horde and the Alliance.

Featuring large-scale changes to the zone and the introduction of numerous quests, enemies and rewards, the event ended with the conclusion of patch 5.3, where the rebellion's story continued beyond the barrens, taking the next step toward would be recorded as a historic shift in power.[1]

With the release of patch 5.4.0, related quests, quartermasters and many NPCs were removed. Most of the unnamed Kor'kron mobs and area changes introduced with the event were left in place however.

Overview[]

With the conflict heating up between the Horde and Alliance in Pandaria, both sides continue to seek the upper hand in this seemingly endless conflict. While the Alliance grows stronger amid the pressures of war, the Horde, under the weight of Garrosh’s command, continues to fracture. The Darkspear Trolls are rebelling, Orgrimmar is on lock down, and the Warchief has sent crews into the Vale of Eternal Blossoms and into the Northern Barrens in search of resources to push his war machine forward.[1]

Battlefield: Barren represents Vol'jin's response via the Darkspear Rebellion to Garrosh Hellscream's Kor'kron build-up in the Northern Barrens. The Kor'kron have set up four new camps across the Northern Barrens to build up a supply chain for Garrosh's war effort, and Vol'jin will pay dearly for any interruptions.

Additionally, Alliance Pack Kodos and Horde Barrens Caravans need escorts across the Barrens, as they are being harried by Kor'kron Caravan Raiders. Beyond that, Kor'kron Commanders appear occasionally to oversee the operations. Commanders will require a group to defeat.

Quests[]

The quest chain to start the Battlefield: Barrens conflict begins in the Vale of Eternal Blossoms, where Lorewalker Cho seeks out information regarding recent Alliance and Horde actions in Dun Morogh and in the vale itself.

Camps[]

Escorts[]

From time to time, an announcement will be made in the zone that a caravan of supplies needs to be escorted. A small icon representing the caravan will show on the zone map when it becomes available. You (and hopefully some allies) need to help protect it from Kor'kron Raiders as it makes its way across the Barrens. You'll gain a buff for staying near the caravan which will stack over time. The longer you stay with it, the more stacks of the buff you'll get up to a total of ten stacks. If you manage to successfully escort the caravan to its destination, you'll be rewarded with some Inv crate 01 [Surplus Supplies]. The amount you receive will depend on how long you were a part of the caravan escort and the buff stacks you've accrued.

Commanders[]

Main article: Kor'kron Commander

If you really want to do some damage to Garrosh's troops, you’ll get the opportunity when an Elite Commander is spotted in the zone. You'll need help though if you want to come out of this encounter alive. These are some of the toughest Kor'kron that Garrosh has at his command and they won’t go down without a fight.

Overturned Kor'kron Caravans[]

Main article: Overturned Kor'kron Caravan

A zone wide announcement will be made when a Kor’kron caravan has been overturned. This is a great way to gather some additional resources in a quick snatch and grab before the Kor’kron manage to recover their supplies. Once overturned, the spoils will remain for exactly 5 minutes, if anything hasn't been collected in that time, whatever is left will despawn.

Rewards[]

You'll be able to scavenge Latent Kor'kron Armor (item level 489) from the battlefield or from the Darkspear Quartermaster, and with your weekly quest reward –Inv drink 31 embalmingfluid [Radical Mojo]– you can upgrade the armor into a usable item. These items will have randomized stats that may have some unexpected results that you won't be able to get from other gear.

Vanity items are also available for purchase to help you remember your time besieging Orgrimmar with fondness.

Additionally, normal Kor'kron mobs in the Northern Barrens have a slim chance to drop the Inv misc bag 26 spellfire [Kor'kron Supply Satchel].
