Tips and Tactics

Keep this active all the time. More damage is very rarely a bad thing.

Battle Shout is largely a party-only skill, and then only in a party with at least one other melee character. In this case Battle Shout should be constantly refreshed, as it's the only buff warriors have for their party and its effect is multiplied for the number of people.

The 2 min timer is short relative to the Paladin's Spell holy greaterblessingofkings [Blessing of Might] and usually doesn't last long enough for more than 2 or 3 mobs, particularly if you have to heal in between fights. However it does make a good 'rage dump' skill. If at the end of a battle you have extra rage that will otherwise go to waste, getting off a battle shout is a good place to use it. Consider using it right before execute if the execute will kill or almost kill the mob.

When you are placed in a group of rogues, BS is a must to keep spamming. The 232 base attack power boost is another 14 dps added to each of the weapons a rogue wields. So for losing 10 rage on yourself you have granted yourself and any other melee dps in your group with 14 attack power. 14x5 = 70 additional damage per second over a period of 2 mins.

Note that the attack power raised by Battle Shout does not raise Ranged Attack Power as well.

Note: Battle shout do not generate the hugh amount of threat as per patch 2.0. It now generate about 50 threat flat, no matter if your team mates got the buff. So the old days of battle shout tanking are quite over.

The threat generated is not restricted by range (unlike Ability warrior warcry [Demoralizing Shout]) and is larger the more party members (including pets) you buff.
