Wrath of the Lich King

During the war against the Lich King, it was the first forward base established by the Argent Crusade when they breached Icecrown under the command of Highlord Tirion Fordring. It gave them a path into Scourgeholme, which the highlord hoped to conquer and remake into an Argent Crusade fortress.[1]

The encampment immediately came under heavy attack by waves of undead of every sort assaulting its battlements from Scourgeholme.[2][3] The Argent Crusaders fought back with zeal, using melee weapons and cannons to repel each undead attack, aided also by some adventurers of the Alliance and Horde. Withstanding even hosts of frost wyrms, the Argent Crusade succeeded in throwing the Lich King's minions back from the valley.[4] Not pausing, the breach was reopened and the Argent Crusade began working to establish a foothold on the far side. To achieve this, however, the Crusade's leaders deemed it necessary to pacify Scourgeholme. Following the war against the Jailer, the brothers Bronzebeard reported that the Argent Crusade forces have mostly drawn down the Argent Vanguard in favor of the stronger and more permanent fortifications of the Argent Tournament Grounds, while the forward base still acts as a way station into Icecrown for soldiers of the crusade.[1]

Phases

First encountered

Before having completed quests in the area, Argent Crusaders are roaming the Valley of Echoes, fighting with Forgotten Depths Slayers. Some crusaders are bound in webs. Forgotten Depths Ambushers will occasionally pop out of a webbing and attack.

Scourge attack

After completing N [25-30] A Cold Front Approaches, the Scourge will start attacking on the Argent Vanguard.

Cannons appear on top of the Argent Vanguard Towers. The Valley is filled with scourge of various sorts, and an occasional Frostbrood Destroyer joins the fight.

Aftermath

When N [25-30] The Last Line Of Defense is completed the Argent Crusaders once again wander the Valley of Echoes cheering loudly near the dead bodies of the slain Frostbrood Destroyers and various dead Nerubians.

Various NPCs appear at (or move from the Argent Vanguard) a camp at the north end of the Valley of Echoes, just shy of The Breach. While a small group of crusaders guard the Breach from further Scourge invasions.
