'''Alcohol''' (as with most [[drink]]s) is a [[consumable]] [[item]] that can be procured either through adventuring or a vendor. Unlike other drinks, it does not restore mana. (But see [[Kungaloosh]].) It shares global cooldown with other drinks despite this. Depending on type, alcohol will also occasionally give benefits such as [[Well Fed]]. For the most part, alcohol is used purely for recreation (as in real life). If you drink enough alcohol, you will first become "tipsy", then "drunk", and finally "completely smashed"; after enough alcohol, you will [[Drunken Vomit|vomit]]. As you continue to drink, other effects will set in to simulate real life drunkenness. While there are many common alcohols, there are also a number of exotic drinks to be had — which this list tries to compile.

[[Image:Drunk example.jpg|thumb|Blurred vision on supported graphics cards.]]

As of [[Patch 2.3]], when you become tipsy, drunk, or completely smashed, the game will announce what you were drinking at the time.

  +
Wiki '''templates''' provide a means to insert the same content over and over in different (or the same) pages. This saves editors the hassle of duplicating the same text again and again, and also helps ensure consistency. See [[Help:Template]] for further information on using and creating templates.
The effects of alcohol are generally mild and don't set in early, though effects like blurred vision depend heavily on what your computer's video quality. High video quality will make it very hard to see. At first, you will become [[tipsy]]. For the most part, being tipsy will not affect you much. Slight vision blurring or unintentional turning may occur. Continuing to drink while tipsy will make you [[drunk]].

  +
{{spc}}
  +
Templates are generally shown with the format required to use the template (i.e. <tt>{{T|Horde Icon}}</tt>). Clicking the template name takes you to the template's page, where you can see what it looks like and how it is used.

{| class="darktable"
Being [[drunk]] will cause heavier vision blurring and more movement effects, and the swaying can cause significant loss of course if running or riding (please do not drink and ride — it's not worth it). In addition to the tipsy effects, when you try to talk, the letter "s" will become "sh" and occasionally "...hic!" will be added to the end of your chat line. In [[Patch 1.6]], however, words that became profane through this (such as "sit") no longer had the "s" to "sh" change applied. You might, for instance, say "this is an example" and it will appear as though you said "thish ish an example...hic!". Drunkenness also simulates delusions of grandeur, aggressiveness, and/or confidence by making the level on mobs or flagged enemies appear five levels lower, though it doesn't actually modify the mob's stats and you still receive the same amount of experience.

Being completely smashed doesn't seem to have any new effects, but some, such as screen blurring or turning, are said to appear to worsen. After drinking enough alcohol at smashed the character will cast [[Drunken Vomit]], stunning the character and spewing a green stream of vomit onto the ground.

  +
* Note that <nowiki>{{catredirect|destination category}}</nowiki> is no longer required as of the [[MediaWiki Quirks|MediaWiki 1.7 upgrade]]. You can now use regular <code><nowiki>#redirect [[:Category:destination category]]</nowiki></code> redirects. Old/deprecated categories should never be redirected per the [[Wowpedia:Category policy|category policy]].
  +
  +
===Clear below break before starting===
  +
* You can use {{T|clear}} instead of the HTML tag that clears space below things like images, pictures and tables, so stuff doesn't begin until the bottom of the image, picture or table box.
  +
* You can also use {{T|clear|left}} or {{T|clear|right}} to clear only left or right floats
  +
  +
=== Line spacing ===
  +
* {{T|spc}} adds a moderate space between two paragraphs, or between items in a bullet list. The spacing is about 75% of a regular line height.
  +
  +
=== Columns ===
  +
To easily put content in columns, use {{t|col-begin}}, {{t|col-2}}/{{t|col-3}}/{{t|col-4}}/{{t|col-5}}/{{t|col-6}}/{{t|col-7}}, and {{t|col-end}}.

===Disambiguation===
  +
* Use {{t|disambig|doc=}}, if a page has a chance of being confused with a page of a similar name but different content, a [[Wowpedia:Disambiguation|disambiguation page]] may be in order. See that page for more info on creating one and linking to it.
  +
* However, sometimes a disabiguation page is not appropriate, but a short note at the top may still be necessary. {{t|for}} can be useful for this situation.

=== Tables of Contents ===
  +
Though discouraged (see [[Wowpedia:Manual of Style]]), you can float the table of contents of a page to the right with {{t|tocright}}
  +
  +
===Tabs===
  +
If you want to make a nice looking tab to clearly indicate what to click, like {{discussiontab}}, you can use the following:
  +
* {{T|articletab}} &ndash; {{articletab}}
  +
* {{T|categorytab}} &ndash; {{categorytab}}
  +
* {{T|discussiontab}} &ndash; {{discussiontab}}

  +
===Template links===
  +
Make example template code for templates with a link to them:
  +
*Simple template (i.e. {{t|t|template}})
  +
  +
===See also===
  +
Add references to other articles using {{T|seealso}}. For example, to add two references to a page, use <nowiki>{{seealso</nowiki><b>|</b><nowiki>Health regeneration</nowiki><b>|</b><nowiki>Mana regeneration}}</nowiki>:
  +
  +
{{seealso|Health regeneration|Mana regeneration}}
  +
  +
For consistency, it's recommended that you add a section at the bottom titled "See also"
  +
  +
===Example, Example/Begin, Example/End===
  +
<code>{{T|Example|small text}}</code> can be used for very small examples, but often you will want to pull in substantial pieces of other pages or templates, in which case you can use <code>{{T|Example/Begin}} LOTS of text, probably multiline {{T|Example/End}}</code>:
  +
{{Example/Begin}}
  +
LOTS of text,
  +
probably
  +
multiline
  +
{{Example/End}}
  +
  +
===Page actions===
  +
* {{T|edit|pagename}} can be used to create a link for editing a page, e.g. <code><nowiki>{{edit|Wowpedia:Templates}}</nowiki></code> creates {{edit|Wowpedia:Templates}}.
  +
  +
* {{T|purge|your text}} creates a link that ''purges'' the cache of a page, i.e. forces a reload of all pulled-in templates. Sensible texts would be e.g. {{purge|purge page cache}}, &nbsp; {{purge|update subpages}}, &nbsp; {{purge|refresh templates}}.

===Money===
  +
Multiple ways to do money exist, but only a few are practical, and here they are:
  +
  +
* {{Cost|123|45|67}} <code>{{T|cost|123|45|67}}</code>
  +
* {{Cost|123||67}} <code>{{T|cost|123||67}}</code>
  +
* {{cost|25|50}} <code>{{T|cost|g&#61;25|s&#61;50}}</code>
  +
* {{cost||35|10}} <code>{{T|cost|s&#61;35|c&#61;10}}</code>
  +
* {{cost|10|48|32}}<code>{{T|cost|g&#61;10|s&#61;48|c&#61;32}}</code>
  +
  +
=== Currency ===
  +
Similar to money, there are now many other types of currencies in WoW, where you exchange items ''as a currency'' for another item. For example:
  +
  +
* {{costitem|1|Alterac Valley Mark of Honor}} <code>{{t|costitem|1|Alterac Valley Mark of Honor}}</code>
  +
* {{costitem|100|Dalaran Cooking Award}} <code>{{t|costitem|100|Dalaran Cooking Award}}</code>
  +
* {{costitem|1|Breastplate of the Wayward Conqueror}} <code>{{t|costitem|1|Breastplate of the Wayward Conqueror}}</code>
  +
  +
=== Quests ===
  +
There are two ways to link to quest articles. There is the normal way, because sometimes you just need to mention the quest, which makes use of the template {{t|quest}}, that automatically drops the "Quest:" from the name (used for cleaner code):
  +
  +
<code><nowiki>{{quest|Holy Bologna: What the Light Won't Tell You}}</nowiki></code> as opposed to <code><nowiki>[[Quest:Holy Bologna: What the Light Won't Tell You|Holy Bologna: What the Light Won't Tell You]]</nowiki></code>
  +
  +
The second way is more detailed, and is usually used in bulleted lists.
  +
  +
{{T|questlong|faction|questlevel|questname|displayname}}<br />
  +
Usage: <code>{{[[template:questlong|questlong]]|Neutral|54|Holy Bologna: What the Light Won't Tell You}}</code><br />
  +
Displays: {{questlong|Neutral|54|Holy Bologna: What the Light Won't Tell You}}

  +
===Footers===

===Blizzard text colors===
  +
* Use {{t|text|blizz|text}} or <code>class="blizztext"</code> for coloring official [[Blizzard Entertainment]] text
  +
*:Wikicode example: <code><nowiki>{{t|text|blizz|All your CC trinkets will be nerfed against level 60 in 2.0.3, but that's how it was supposed to work.}}</nowiki></code>
  +
*:Wikicode example: <code><nowiki><span class="blizztext">All your CC trinkets will be nerfed against level 60 in 2.0.3, but that's how it was supposed to work.</span></nowiki></code>
  +
*:i.e. <span class="blizztext">All your CC trinkets will be nerfed against level 60 in 2.0.3, but that's how it was supposed to work.</span>
  +
* For those using Monaco skin, use <code>class="blizzlink"</code> for coloring official [[Blizzard Entertainment]] links (in posts, announcements, press releases etc.).
  +
*:Wikicode example: <code><nowiki><span class="blizztext">Visit the official community site:</span> [http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/ <b class="blizzlink">http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/</b>]</nowiki></code>

=== Patch notes and hotfixes ===
  +
* Use {{t|Patched|patch|note|comment}} to add patch note information to an article

==[[Quality]] Colors==
  +
The following templates change the color of the links. In case there is such a concern, note that each link, when moused over, has the underline in the typical link color. For instance, if a link does not exist, the underline is red; if it does exist, the underline is blue.
  +
  +
NOTE: Color for [[Artifact]] items used to be <span color="red">red</span> and is currently undecided by [[Blizz]]ard as there are no items of this type in-game yet, however [[API_GetItemQualityColor|GetItemQualityColor]] API function currently returns <span color="#E6CC80">0.90196..., 0.8, 0.50196..., "|cffe6cc80"</span><!-- Please do not change this unless function returns change. Current value is valid for 1.11 --> (shown in that color) for quality=6 (Artifact), which gives some idea. [[Legendary]] items are said to have "(Color Undecided)" according to [http://www.wow-europe.com/en/info/items/basics.html Item Basics] at [http://www.wow-europe.com/ www.wow-europe.com], but have been seen in-game.
  +
  +
For simple quality links for use in other templates, use the following format:
  +
* the template name indicates the item has a quality
  +
* the first argument is the quality of a given item
  +
* the second argument is the name of a given item's article

You can also easily color inline text with {{t|text}}. This template comes preloaded with some common colors - "emote", "say", "yell", "whisper", and "blizz" but many other colors can be supplied as well.

Revision as of 01:49, 4 December 2011

There are many, many templates in use in Wowpedia and these are only subset, hopefully representing the most commonly used ones. If you feel that a template belongs on this page, do not hesitate to add it.

Wiki templates provide a means to insert the same content over and over in different (or the same) pages. This saves editors the hassle of duplicating the same text again and again, and also helps ensure consistency. See Help:Template for further information on using and creating templates.

Templates are generally shown with the format required to use the template (i.e. {{Horde Icon}}). Clicking the template name takes you to the template's page, where you can see what it looks like and how it is used.

Article management tags

Accuracy

  • {{accuracy}} displays a banner requesting a fact check

Better name / Conjecture

  • {{bettername}} displays a banner flagging the article as probably needing a new name

Citations needed

Cleanup

{{Cleanup|<reasons>}}

Add to articles or sections that require editing attention. This will include them in Category:Articles to clean up.

Please try and add reasons - this will help editors to change what is wrong or add what is not there without having to ask the user who tagged the page.

Construction

  • {{construction}}

Template:Construction

Deletion templates

{{Delete}}, {{Speedydelete}}, {{Terminate}} etc. are used as part of the article deletion process. See delete, Terminate.

Disputed

GM Item

  • {{GM-item}} displays a banner noting this item is most likely for GMs only

Template:GM-item

Merge

{{Merge|<target article>}}

Add to articles that should be merged into one article. This will include them in Category:Merge candidates. Further elaboration on the articles' discussion pages would be helpful, such as suggesting which name both articles should be listed under.

Move

{{Move|<target article>}}

Add to articles that should be moved to another name (Category:Move candidates), in accordance with the Naming Policy. While many moves can be made immediately, if moving will be an involved process (as with a category) or there is debate as to what the article should be called, it is best to receive some feedback first.

Outdated

Removed

Removed from game The subject of this section has been removed from World of Warcraft.

Split

{{Split}}

Add to articles that should have sections split off into separate articles. This will include them in Category:Split candidates. Be sure to clarify on the article's discussion page which sections you think should be moved to a new article, and why.

Stubs

When a page has little or no useful information, then it is a stub.

Talk pages

{{Talkheader|analysis=on}} (from {{Talkheader}})

This template can be added to an article's talk page where discussion about the issue in general is overwhelming editorial concerns regarding the article in particular. See Wowpedia:Talk page guidelines for more info.

Icons

Note that all these icons appear to the left of the text left edge. Use them only in indented sections (e.g. after a ":").

Category helpers

  • Use {{Server_US|<realm type>|<timezone>|<server>}} to easily categorize US servers. (timezone = Eastern, Central, Pacific, etc....) (server = article name minus Server:, helps alphabetize categories)
  • Use {{Server_EU|<realm type>|<language>|<server>}} to easily categorize EU servers. (language = English, French, German, etc....) (server = article name minus Server:, helps alphabetize categories)
  • Use {{Guild|<name>|<realm>|<loc>|<type>}} to easily categorize guilds.
  • Use {{correct2category|<article type>|<good-category>}} at the top of category pages that shouldn't be used to tell people what category they should be using.
  • Use {{bigcat}} at the bottom of very large (nearly or over 200 articles) categories:
  • Note that {{catredirect|destination category}} is no longer required as of the MediaWiki 1.7 upgrade. You can now use regular #redirect [[:Category:destination category]] redirects. Old/deprecated categories should never be redirected per the category policy.

Clear below break before starting

  • You can use {{clear}} instead of the HTML tag that clears space below things like images, pictures and tables, so stuff doesn't begin until the bottom of the image, picture or table box.
  • You can also use {{clear|<left>}} or {{clear|<right>}} to clear only left or right floats

Line spacing

  • {{spc}} adds a moderate space between two paragraphs, or between items in a bullet list. The spacing is about 75% of a regular line height.

Columns

To easily put content in columns, use {{col-begin}}, {{col-2}}/{{col-3}}/{{col-4}}/{{col-5}}/{{col-6}}/{{col-7}}, and {{col-end}}.

For example
{{col-begin}}
{{col-3}}
First column
{{col-3}}
Second
{{col-3}}
Third
{{col-end}}
Yields
    Template:Col-3 First column Template:Col-3 Second Template:Col-3 Third

Disambiguation

  • Use {{disambig}}, if a page has a chance of being confused with a page of a similar name but different content, a disambiguation page may be in order. See that page for more info on creating one and linking to it.
  • However, sometimes a disabiguation page is not appropriate, but a short note at the top may still be necessary. {{for}} can be useful for this situation.
{{for|the original 40-man raid introduced in [[Patch 1.11]]|Naxxramas (original)}}
For the original 40-man raid introduced in Patch 1.11, see Naxxramas (original).

Tables of Contents

Though discouraged (see Wowpedia:Manual of Style), you can float the table of contents of a page to the right with {{tocright}}

Tabs

If you want to make a nice looking tab to clearly indicate what to click, like Discussion, you can use the following:

Template links

Make example template code for templates with a link to them:

  • Simple template (i.e. {{t|<template>}})

See also

Add references to other articles using {{seealso}}. For example, to add two references to a page, use {{seealso|Health regeneration|Mana regeneration}}:

See also: Health regenerationMana regeneration

For consistency, it's recommended that you add a section at the bottom titled "See also"

Example, Example/Begin, Example/End

{{Example|<small text>}} can be used for very small examples, but often you will want to pull in substantial pieces of other pages or templates, in which case you can use {{Example/Begin}} LOTS of text, probably multiline {{Example/End}}:

LOTS of text, probably multiline

Page actions

  • {{edit|<pagename>}} can be used to create a link for editing a page, e.g. {{edit|Wowpedia:Templates}} creates [edit].

Money

Multiple ways to do money exist, but only a few are practical, and here they are:

  • 123g 45s 67c {{cost|<123>|<45>|<67>}}
  • 123g 67c {{cost|<123>|<67>}}
  • 25g 50s {{cost|<g=25>|<s=50>}}
  • 35s 10c {{cost|<s=35>|<c=10>}}
  • 10g 48s 32c{{cost|<g=10>|<s=48>|<c=32>}}

Currency

Similar to money, there are now many other types of currencies in WoW, where you exchange items as a currency for another item. For example:

  • 1 Alterac Valley Mark of Honor {{costitem|<1>|<Alterac Valley Mark of Honor>}}
  • 100 Dalaran Cooking Award {{costitem|<100>|<Dalaran Cooking Award>}}
  • 1 Breastplate of the Wayward Conqueror {{costitem|<1>|<Breastplate of the Wayward Conqueror>}}

Quests

There are two ways to link to quest articles. There is the normal way, because sometimes you just need to mention the quest, which makes use of the template {{quest}}, that automatically drops the "Quest:" from the name (used for cleaner code):

{{quest|Holy Bologna: What the Light Won't Tell You}} as opposed to [[Quest:Holy Bologna: What the Light Won't Tell You|Holy Bologna: What the Light Won't Tell You]]

The second way is more detailed, and is usually used in bulleted lists.

{{questlong|<faction>|<questlevel>|<questname>|<displayname>}}
Usage: {{questlong|Neutral|54|Holy Bologna: What the Light Won't Tell You}}
Displays: N [54] Holy Bologna: What the Light Won't Tell You

Footers

See also: Category:Navigation templates

These templates take one parameter "class" which should be replaced by the class name; "Mage", "Warrior" etc. This is used to create links back to class-specific pages.

    i.e. Visit the official community site: http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/

Patch notes and hotfixes

  • Use {{Patched|<patch>|<note>|<comment>}} to add patch note information to an article
    Wikicode example: {{{{patched|patch=3.1.0|note=Exorcism: Now can be used on any target and has a 100% chance to be a critical strike when used on Undead and Demons.|comment=This is to ensure that paladins do not see a drop in their dps when progressing from [[Naxxramas]] (which is full of undead) to [[Ulduar]] and beyond (not as much undead). Due to this change, {{loot|common|Glyph of Exorcism}} was changed to 20% bonus damage.}}
    i.e. Template:Patched
  • Use {{Patched|<date>|<bluenote>|<link>}} to add hotfix information to an article
    Wikicode example: {{Patched|date=2009-05-19|bluenote=Some of the trash mob packs have been removed in the areas leading to [[Ignis the Furnace Master]] and [[Freya]].|link=http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=16474158165&sid=1}}
    i.e. Template:Patched

Quality Colors

The following templates change the color of the links. In case there is such a concern, note that each link, when moused over, has the underline in the typical link color. For instance, if a link does not exist, the underline is red; if it does exist, the underline is blue.

NOTE: Color for Artifact items used to be red and is currently undecided by Blizzard as there are no items of this type in-game yet, however GetItemQualityColor API function currently returns 0.90196..., 0.8, 0.50196..., "|cffe6cc80" (shown in that color) for quality=6 (Artifact), which gives some idea. Legendary items are said to have "(Color Undecided)" according to Item Basics at www.wow-europe.com, but have been seen in-game.

For simple quality links for use in other templates, use the following format:

  • the template name indicates the item has a quality
  • the first argument is the quality of a given item
  • the second argument is the name of a given item's article
Example Result
{{Quality|<Heirloom>|<heirloom>}} heirloom
{{Quality|<Artifact>|<artifact>}} artifact
{{Quality|<Legendary>|<legendary>}} legendary
{{Quality|<Epic>|<epic>}} epic
{{Quality|<Rare>|<rare>}} rare
{{Quality|<Uncommon>|<uncommon>}} uncommon
{{Quality|<Common>|<common>}} common
{{Quality|<Poor>|<poor>}} poor

Simple color replacement templates deprecated using styling in MediaWiki:Common.css:

Class Color Code
qc-heirloom Heirloom <span class="qc-heirloom">Heirloom</span>
qc-artifact Artifact <span class="qc-artifact">Artifact</span>
qc-legendary Legendary <span class="qc-legendary">Legendary</span>
qc-epic Epic <span class="qc-epic">Epic</span>
qc-rare Rare <span class="qc-rare">Rare</span>
qc-uncommon Uncommon <span class="qc-uncommon">Uncommon</span>
qc-common Common <span class="qc-common">Common</span>
qc-poor Poor <span class="qc-poor">Poor</span>

Reputation colors

The {{reputation|<rep level>|<link page>|<alt text>}} template changes the color of text based on the reputation selected.

Example Result
{{reputation|exalted}} exalted
{{reputation|revered}} revered
{{reputation|honored}} honored
{{reputation|friendly}} friendly
{{reputation|neutral}} neutral
{{reputation|unfriendly}} unfriendly
{{reputation|hostile}} hostile
{{reputation|hated}} hated

You can also color custom text as well. For example: {{reputation|hated|very hated}} results in very hated.

Colored text

You can also easily color inline text with {{text}}. This template comes preloaded with some common colors - "emote", "say", "yell", "whisper", and "blizz" but many other colors can be supplied as well.

For example: {{Text|whisper|An Unknown Voice whispers: Tell yourself again that these are not truly your friends.}} results in

An Unknown Voice whispers: Tell yourself again that these are not truly your friends.
