As priests are mana based spell-casters, their abilities vary greatly. This is dependent on choices of specialization and tree selection. For instance healers focus more on healing, protection, buffing and the removal of harmful buffs, wheres Shadow priests are experts in direct and damage over time, as well as indirect healing.

Spell Nature Slow Shackle Undead 20 30 yards Discipline Shackles the target undead enemy for up to X sec. The shackled unit is unable to move, attack or cast spells. Any damage caused will release the target. Only one target can be shackled at a time.

Spell Holy PrayerOfMendingtga Prayer of Mending 68 40 yards Holy Places a spell on the target that heals them for X the next time they take damage. When the heal occurs, Prayer of Mending jumps to a raid member within 20 yards. Jumps up to 5 times and lasts 30 sec. after each jump. This spell can only be placed on one target at a time.
Spell Arcane MassDispel Mass Dispel 70 30 yards Discipline Dispels magic in a 15 yard radius, removing 1 harmful spell from each friendly target and 1 beneficial spell from each enemy target. Affects a maximum of 10 friendly targets and 10 enemy targets. This dispel is potent enough to remove Magic effects that are normally undispellable.
Spell Shadow MindShear Mind Sear 75 30 yards Shadow Causes an explosion of shadow magic around the enemy target, causing X to Y Shadow damage every 1 sec. for 5 sec. to all enemies within 10 yards around the target.
Spell Holy DivineHymn Divine Hymn 80 15 yards Holy You recite a Holy hymn, summoning the power of the Divine to assist you in your time of need. Heals 3 nearby lowest-health friendly party or raid targets for X every 2 seconds for 8 seconds, and increases healing done to them by 15% for 8 seconds. Maximum of 12 heals. The Priest must channel to maintain the spell.
Spell Holy SymbolOfHope Hymn of Hope 80 40 yards Holy You recite a Holy hymn, restoring hope to those in despair. Restores 3% mana to 3 nearby low mana friendly party or raid targets every 2 seconds for 8 seconds, and temporarily increases their total maximum mana by 20% for 8 seconds. After the effect expires, the mana is lost. Maximum of 12 mana restorations. The Priest must channel to maintain the spell.

Talent abilities

Talent spells are spells or abilities that can be accessed by spending talent points. Some have further ranks that can be purchased from the trainer, while others are simply one-shot abilities. The points listed show the minimum amount of points you need to spend in the tree to access the talent.

Creates a Holy Lightwell. Members of your raid or party can click the Lightwell to restore X health over 6 sec. Attacks done to you equal to 30% of your total health will cancel the effect. Lightwell lasts for 3 min or 10 charges.
Spell Holy CircleOfRenewal Circle of Healing Holy 40 Heals up to 5 friendly party or raid members within 15 yards of the target for X to Y.
Spell Holy GuardianSpirit Guardian Spirit Holy 50 Calls upon a guardian spirit to watch over the friendly target. The spirit increases the healing received by the target by 40%, and also prevents the target from dying by sacrificing itself. This sacrifice terminates the effect but heals the target of 50% of their maximum health. Lasts 10 sec.

Assume a Shadowform, increasing your Shadow damage by 15%, reducing all damage done to you by 15% and threat generated by 30%. However, you may not cast Holy spells while in this form except Cure Disease and Abolish Disease. Grants the periodic damage from your Shadow Word: Pain, Devouring Plague, and Vampiric Touch the ability to critically hit for 100% increased damage.

Causes X Shadow damage over 15 sec to your target and causes up to 10 party or raid members to gain 0.25% of their maximum mana per second when you deal damage from Mind Blast. In addition, if the Vampiric Touch is dispelled it will cause X damage to the afflicted target.
Spell Shadow PsychicHorrors Psychic Horror Shadow 40 You terrify the target, causing them to tremble in horror for 3 seconds and drop all their main hand and ranged weapons for 10 seconds.
Spell Shadow Dispersion Dispersion Vampiric Touch 1
Shadow 50
You disperse into pure Shadow energy, reducing all damage taken by 90%. You are unable to attack or cast spells, but you regenerate 6% mana every 1 sec for 6 sec. Dispersion can be cast while stunned, feared or silenced and clears all snare and movement impairing effects when cast, and makes you immune to them while dispersed.

Codex abilities

A codex is an item that can teach a new or a specific rank of a learned ability to a priest. These abilities used to be available only via codices. Since patch 2.1.0 they can be learned from a trainer as well.

Healing

Prayer of Healing 30 He/Ho A powerful prayer heals nearby party members for 301 to 321.
Spirit of Redemption 30+ He/Ho Increases total Spirit by 5%, and upon death, the priest becomes the Spirit of Redemption for 15 sec. The Spirit of Redemption cannot move, attack, be attacked or targeted by any spells or effects. While in this form the priest can cast any healing spell free of cost. When the effect ends, the priest dies.
Greater Heal 40 He/Ho A slow casting spell that heals a single target for 1201 to 1353.
Binding Heal 64 He/Ho A fast casting spell that heals a single target and the caster for 1042 to 1338.
Prayer of Mending 68 He/Ho Places a spell on the target that heals them for 800 the next time they take damage. When the heal occurs, Prayer of Mending jumps to a raid member within 20 yards. Jumps up to 5 times and lasts 30 sec after each jump.

Inner Fire 12 Ds A burst of Holy energy fills the caster, increasing his armour by 210 for the next ten mins or 20 hits the caster receives
Inner Focus 20+ Ds When activated, reduces the Mana cost of your next spell by 100% and increases its critical effect chance by 25% if it is capable of a critical effect.
Divine Spirit 30+ Ds Holy power infuses the target, increasing their Spirit by 23 for 30 minutes.
Vampiric Embrace 30+ Sh Fills you with the embrace of Shadow energy, causing you to be healed for 15% and other party members to be healed for 3% of any single-target Shadow spell damage you deal for 30 min.
Shadowform 40+ Sh Assume a Shadowform, increasing your Shadow damage by 15% and reducing Physical damage done to you by 15%. However, you may only cast Shadow and Discipline spells while in this form.

Shadow Word: Death 62 Sh An instant casting spell that damages a single target for 450 to 522. If the target survives the spell, the caster receives the same amount of damage dealt.

Damage over time

Devouring Plague 20 Sh Afflicts the target with a disease that causes 152 Shadow damage over 24 sec. Damage caused by the Devouring Plague heals the caster.

Mana drains

Mana Burn 24 Ds Drains 191 to 203 mana from a target. For each mana drained in this way, the target takes 0.5 damage.

Aggro control

Spell Level Type Description
Fade 8 Sh Fade out, discouraging enemies from attacking you for 10 sec.
Mind Soothe 20 Sh Soothes the target, reducing the range at which it will attack you by 10 yards. Only affects targets level 40 or lower. Lasts 15 sec.
Holy Nova 20+ Ho Causes an explosion of holy light around the caster, causing 112 to 130 Holy damage to all enemy targets within 10 yards and healing all party members within 10 yards for 182 to 210. These effects cause no threat.

Crowd control

Psychic Scream 14 Sh The caster lets out a psychic scream, causing 2 nearby enemies to flee for 8 sec.
Shackle Undead 20 Ds Shackles a single target undead enemy for up to 30 seconds, preventing them from moving or casting any spells.
Mind Control 30 Sh Controls a humanoid mind up to level 32, but slows its attack speed by 25%. Lasts up to 1 min.

Cures

Resurrection 10 Ho Brings a dead player back to life with 70 health and 135 mana. Cannot be cast when in combat.
Cure Disease 14 Ho Removes 1 disease from the friendly target.
Abolish Disease 32 Ho Attempts to cure 1 disease effect every 5 seconds for 20 sec.

Prayer of Spirit 60 Ds Power infuses the target's party and raid members, increasing their Spirit by X for 1.00 hour.

Racial abilities

Prior to patch 3.0.2, priests got two additional spells according to their race, first at level 10 and then at level 20. In Wrath of the Lich King, most of these racial spells were removed from the game while a few got revamped. Desperate Prayer replaced Holy Nova as a Holy talent (the latter spell became a basic priest spell), while Symbol of Hope and Devouring Plague were retooled and made basic priest spells. All other racial abilities were removed from the game.

Instantly heals the caster for X to Y. 10 minute cooldown.
Starshards 10 Night Elf Rains starshards down on the enemy target's head, causing X Arcane damage over 15 sec. No mana cost, 30 sec cooldown.
Touch of Weakness 10 Undead
Blood Elf
The next damaging melee attack against the caster will cause X Shadow damage and reduce the damage caused by the attacker by Y for 2 min.
Hex of Weakness 10 Troll Weakens the target enemy, reducing damage caused by X and reduces effectiveness of healing spells by 20% for 2 minutes.
Symbol of Hope 10 Draenei Greatly increase the morale of the party members. Gives them up to X mana every 5 secs for 15 secs. 5 min cooldown.
Chastise 20 Dwarf
Draenei
Chastise the target, causing X to Y Holy damage and Incapacitates them for up to 2 sec. Any damage caused will awaken the target. Only works against Humanoids. This spell causes very low threat.
Feedback 20 Human The priest becomes surrounded with anti-magic energy. Any successful spell cast against the priest will burn X of the attacker's Mana, causing 1 Shadow damage for each point of Mana burned. Lasts 15 sec.
Elune's Grace 20 Night Elf Reduce chance to be hit by melee and ranged attacks by 20% for 15 seconds
Devouring Plague 20 Undead Afflicts the target with a disease that causes X Shadow damage over 24 seconds. Damage caused by the Devouring Plague heals the caster.
Shadowguard 20 Troll The caster is surrounded by shadows. When a melee or ranged attacker hits the caster, the attacker will be struck for X Shadow damage. Attackers can only be damaged once every few seconds. 3 charges. Lasts 10 minutes.
Consume Magic 20 Blood Elf Dispels one beneficial Magic effect from the caster and gives them X to Y mana. 2 min cooldown.
