Дренеи Экзодара начинают своё приключение в Долине Аммен, расположенной на Острове Лазурной Дымки, что в северо-западном Калимдоре. Основная цивилизованная база - Лазурная застава. К этому острову примыкает Остров Кровавой Дымки, зона для персонажей 10-20 уровня.

Велен и другие выжившие дренеи завладели одним из кораблей Крепости Бурь и сбежали на нём в Азерот. Они искали союзников в своём непрекращающемся бою против сил Пылающего Легиона и нашли их в лице представителей Альянса.

У дренеев нет города-столицы, вместо этого они сделали своим жилищем упавший межпространственный корабль, на котором прилетели в Азерот, Экзодар. За ним следит пророк Велен, лидер расы. Дренеи предпочитают передвигаться на Эллеках, созданиях, напоминающих боевых слонов. Расовый язык - Дренейский, хотя они также хорошо владеют Всеобщим.

Background

Очень давно,на мир Аргус, который является бриллиантом магических даров расы эредара обратил внимание Сергерас, Разрушитель Миров. Сергерас предложил огромную силу троим лидерам эредара Кил'джедену, Архимонду и Велену в обмен на их безусловную преданность. Тревожное видение скоро явилось к Велену, который видел что эрегар превращается в отвратительных демонов-первых живых членов легиона, которые будут расти до огромных размеров до тех пор пока не опустошат всю жизнь. Несмотря не предупреждение Велена, Кил'джейн и Архимонд решили согласится на предложения Сергераса. Велент отчаялся в решении своих бывших друзей и молился о помощи. К его удивлению и облегчению, ему ответил один из доброжелательного наару. Эти энергетические существа, предвидели как и Велен, формирование Пылающего Легиона.

Наару предложили Пророку Велену и другим верующих убежище. Велен тихо собрал тех коллег, кого считал надежными и назвал их дренеями, или "ссыльные". "Саргерас вернулся в Аргус и превратил много желающих эредар в демонов, дренеи едва сбежали из их родного мира. Разъяренный Кил'джеден пообещал отслеживать Велена к концам создания. Даже когда Пылающий Легион преследовал дренеев по всему космосу,наару поручил им следовать по пути Света. Глубоко потрясенные дренеи, поклялись чтить Свет и отстаивать идеалы наару. Со временем дренеи обосновались в отдаленном мире и встретились там с коренными жителями шаманами орками. Дренеи стали называть свой новый дом Дренор или "Изгнанники ' Убежище ".

Кил'джеден продолжал охотиться на изгнанников, и в конце концов он узнал об идиллическом мире и его ничего не подозревающих жителей. Работая через шамана Нер'зула, лорд демонов постепенно начал развращать орков. Когда Нер'зул отказался служить легиону за определенную награду, Кил'джеден вернулся к Нер'Зул в подмастерья. Гул'дан сделал орков неистовство кровожадными, и вновь сформированная Орда начала убивать мирных дренеев. Идея сцепить орков с дренеями была зверски эффективна. Более восьмидесяти процентов расы дренеев было уничтожено, хотя небольшая группа выживших осталась, в том числе и благородный Велен. Орки продолжали вторжение в Азерот через Темный портал Медива. Несколько лет спустя, после Второй войны, дополнительные порталы Нер'зула разорвут Дренор на куски.

Недавно Велен и остальные дренеи выжившие получили контроль над одной из спутниковых структур Бурь и использовал его, чтобы бежать в Азерот. Теперь они ищут союзников в их нескончаемой борьбе против Пылающего Легиона.

Так как в вторжении сил Орды на землю Альянса в Нордсколе, дренеи сыграли незначительную роль. Reasons for the classes

Warrior and mage - Some draenei were dedicated to war and some were dedicated to magic but their focus makes them quite skillful in either. Their numerous battles on Draenor have helped them perfect these arts.

Priest and paladin - The draenei began to follow the way of the naaru and in doing so they became warriors of light and promised to help them fight against the Burning Legion.

Shaman - Shamanism and worshipping nature was once an alien tradition to the draenei, but the Broken draenei spiritual seeker Nobundo heard the voice of the element of wind, while wandering in the wilderness. Since that time Nobundo became a shaman, and under the encouragement of Velen himself, some draenei have followed in his footsteps.

Hunter - It has only been since the draenei's time living on Draenor that they have embraced the art of hunting. Hunting was the primary source of the draenei's sustenance during their time on Draenor, and since their arrival on Azeroth they have continued this practice.

Death Knight - The Lich King cares little for who he converts into his fearsome death knights, however, Arthas finds pleasure in corrupting those of pure heart and the draenei, arguably the most "pious" race, are the pinnacle of this pleasure. Furthermore, as exemplified by the corruption of Archimonde and Kil'jaeden, those draenei who do succumb to corruption prove to be powerful adversaries.

• For the Alliance, the shaman class will exclusive to the draenei until the release of World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, in which Dwarves are now also able to pursue the path of the elements.

Racial abilities

The naaru have taught draenei a great deal of things. With the help of the naaru every draenei has learned a basic spell for healing in the form of Gift of the Naaru. Everyone who has fought alongside a draenei will know that they have a Heroic Presence which allows them to strike more accurately in combat. Draenei have worked with gems for centuries in a variety of ways such as jewelry or power sources, so they have more skill in Gemcutting than any other race. The draenei are so devoted to the Holy Light and the ways of the naaru that all draenei have a slight Shadow Resistance.

Gift of the Naaru - instant - 3 minutes cooldown

Activate to heal your target for 20% of their total health over 15 sec - 40 yd range. This no longer scales with attack power or spell power.

Heroic Presence - passive

Increases chance to hit by 1%.

Gemcutting - passive

5 point skill bonus to Jewelcrafting (note, this also raises the cap by 5 at each level of jewelcrafting).

Shadow Resistance - passive

Reduces chance to be hit by Shadow spells by 2%.

Trivia

• The male draenei dance comes from the dance in the song "Tunak Tunak Tun" by Daler Mehndi. The female dance is taken from several of Shakira's music videos, particularly "Hips Don't Lie".
• Draenei NPCs are the only Alliance race that do not 'verbally' call for help when they are attacked by an enemy player. However, like most other town and major city NPCs, getting too close to them or attacking them will still cause the summoning of allied guards to defend them.
• The draenei are taxonomically similar to the Protoss in Blizzard's Starcraft storyline. Both races are blue skinned with blue tinted blood, and both employ bipedal unguligrade locomotion.
• Very few draenei NPCs have last names, even ones without titles such as Defender. This may be due to few draenei having family members left from their travels and from times of conflict, or it may simply be a cultural trait.
• Draenei are the only playable race that will not have a new class added during the Cataclysm expansion.
• Draenei (along with tauren in humanoid form) were the only playable races that did not have a class that would allow them to stealth, yet they still had a stealth animation. This changed with Cataclysm, as hunters gained [Camouflage].
• The Draenei's numerous starting quests focus on undoing the damage the Exodar did to the environment when they arrived on Azeroth. This has been considered by many to be an attempt by WoW to raise awareness of the ecological damage done by people in real life.^{[источник?]}
• Other then the Troll's passive Regeneration ability, which only works on themselves, the Draenei are the only race who have a healing racial ability, Gift of the Naaru.
• In Open Beta there used to be a female /flirt that was a play on the word "Exodar" ("you've seen the Exodar, yes? Now let me show you the Sexodar!") this was later removed in beta prior to release.
