worgen という名は Horde に恐怖の念を抱かせる。Horde ほどではないにせよ、Alliance の者たちにも同様に恐れられている。

記録によると、狼人間の種族 worgen は一時 Kalimdor にいたという。また、大魔道師 Argual が作り出したポータルを抜けて別世界からやって来たという情報もある。昨今判明した情報によれば worgen の本当の起源は、遙か昔にナイトエルフや謎めいたドルイド集団に連なっている可能性があるとされていたが、狼化の呪いの端を発したのが狼神 Goldrinn を崇拝するドルイドの一派、Druids of the Pack (群れのドルイド)であったことから、それで間違いないと判明した。

Druids of the Pack のドルイドは野蛮な worgen に変身し、次第に狼の凶暴な本性に飲み込まれて正気を失った。残りのドルイドは自分たちが幽閉されるべきであると認め、木の下深くで永遠の冬眠に入ったのだった…… Arugal と Velinde Starsong が Scythe of Elune を使うその日までは。つまり、そもそも狼化の呪いを作り出したのはナイトエルフだったのである。新しくできた味方を支援すべく、worgen は Alliance に再び加わったのだった。

worgen が初めて出現したのは Eastern Kingdoms で、大魔道師 Argual が対 Scourge の武器として人狼を用いた第三次大戦にまで遡る。ところが、worgen の呪いが瞬く間に人間のあいだに広まって、ごく普通の人々が餓えた野蛮な獣に変身すると、Argual の武器はたちまち彼自身に歯を剥いたのである。

Arugal はその worgen の多くを迎え入れ、現在は Shadowfang Keep として知られる Silverlaine 男爵の元邸宅へと逃げ延びた。しかし呪いは消えず Silverpine Forest にしぶとく残り、城壁に閉ざされた Gilneas 国民にまで広がって、そこで呪いは急速に大流行したのだった。

Gilneas の市民は、逃げ延びる希望がなく抜き差しならぬ状況にあると気付いた。彼らは孤立した領地内のさらに奥へと落ちていき、バリケードのすぐ外を徘徊する恐ろしい野蛮な獣から生き延びた。

住む場所を失った市民のあいだでは次第に緊張が高まっていき、難問を抱えた国家をさらに不安定に陥らせる内戦が勃発することとなった。

しかし、一縷の望みにかける者たちがいた。他の者たちはバリケードが破られればもう二度と人には戻れないと恐れおののき諦めかけていたが、狼化の呪いを解く手段があるはずだと信じる者がいたのである。

Alliance における Worgen

Worgen は World of Warcraft: Cataclysm で導入された Alliance 側の新種族で、death knight ・ druid ・ warrior ・ hunter ・ mage ・ priest ・ rogue ・ warlock からクラスを選択できる。 非戦闘時は、人と人狼のどちらの姿でもいられる。戦闘に突入するか、もしくは種族固有アビリティ Darkflight を発動すると即座に worgen の姿となる。

the Greymane Wall が先の大地殻変動で崩壊し、守りが脆弱になった Gilneas を目指して Forsaken が侵攻を開始した。最大の危機に直面した Gilneas の worgen は、かつての同盟者に救援を求めたのだった。Gilneas 国民は 再びAlliance に加わり、新たな同盟者と共に国を取り戻すべく戦うことを決意した。

種族固有アビリティ

[Darkflight] (3 min cooldown)
Activates your true form, increasing movement speed by 40% for 10 sec.
[Viciousness] (passive)
Increases critical strike chance by 1%.
[Aberration] (passive)
No longer reduces the duration of all curses and diseases used against you by 15%. Instead, gives more resistance to both Nature and Shadow damage.
[Flayer] (passive)
Skinning skill increased by 15 and allows you to skin 0.5 seconds faster.
[Two Forms] (1.5 sec cooldown)
Transforms you between human and worgen forms. You will revert to worgen form in combat.
[Running Wild] (1.5 sec cooldown)
Drop to all fours to run as fast as a wild animal. Provides a speed increase equivalent to a ground mount.

マウント

Worgen は Gilneas の評判値により馬を入手できる。テストサーバでは Darnassus の Howling Oak にいるNPC  Astrid Langstrump <Mountain Horse Handler> が販売しており、現在 Mountain Horse (栗ぶち毛) と Swift Mountain Horse (黒ぶち毛)と呼ばれている。

• Despite not gaining the [Two Forms] ability until the completion of the  [9] Neither Human Nor Beast quest, Worgen players were, for a time,テンプレート:Fact able to change between Human and Worgen forms by typing '/transform' into the chat entry in the form of an emote.
• For the time being, Starter Edition accounts (unfortunately) cannot play as the Worgen.
